Yes, Michael knows fine, as does Brian, it's an appeasement. It's unfortunate that we can't all enjoy the 100 together.
We don't mind fudging for Jags (deflected shots on/off target debates) but this one is simply not allowable, we need to be 100% policy consistent!
Aiming for the truth is always the best policy, you can't go wrong. Willie Paul, Willie Sharp & Dougie Somner have all been "victims" of our dubious goals panel so, as much as we're all rooting for BBG, he must meet the same standards.
The referee in said game marked the goal to Brian and who are we to argue with the man in black (for fear of a yellow card!). I’m actually not sure if we will ever reach consensus on that one! 😂. You can tell Brian he’s not getting it! 🙈

Does anyone know how many goals Brian Graham has scored for us now? He must be close to the hundred, maybe 98?
98 is correct

My first post on a long 26 page topic! A lot of this discussion is based on budgets and break even and how we aren’t managing it and it’s a very valid point. I personally think that any individuals or organisation following on from the previous Board is in a deep pit. No structures in place, no solidity in any department and absolutely no backing from its customers.
The Jags trust take over the running of the club and bring some sort of stabilisation to it while trying to put into practice some structures that will have a long term solution for our solvency. Have they got there yet? No but they have stabilised and have attracted back up investment until such times as the club does run at break even. That to me is more than acceptable for a couple of reasons. One, the atmosphere is excellent, crowds are on the up and potentially commercial income is showing an upward trend. One question I’d really like to ask though is how possible is it to break even in the Championship if you have a none too new stadium and want to be competitive on the pitch? I don’t think it is possible until such times as you reach the premiership. To me that is where we stand today - going in a positive direction overall but with a bang of a lot of work to do. If I can ask JJ the following questions:1. Do you agree that fan ownership is the only ownership option on the table at the moment?
2. Given that it is, do you agree having a supports group that raises significant sums and has a very large percentage of membership is something we should look to keep and grow (even if you don’t like the current management structure of it)
3. as you are clearly not happy with the current Board , do you feel that the Trustees should be looking to source new Directors and if so are you sure they are not?
4. Or should potential new Directors make themselves known to the Trustees, and if any have have they been refused?
Jim, I’m very conscious of all the very good work and investment you have put the club’s way over many years and I certainly wouldn’t have a go at you for your stance taken. I can’t agree with your strength of feeling though and would hope that you would take some cognisance from the good work that has been done so far by everyone at the club. Yes it could be better but that’s a one step at a time job. FinallyJim if you do know of any willing new Board members willing to take on the roles I’d recommend you get in touch with the Trustees - it’s then in their court.
sorry for a long post!

Thanks for responding Michael M. Your point is fair and worthy of mature debate.
Personally, I'd rather we didn't go down the route of cringey American style sponsorship. We are better than that in my opinion. We play our games in Glasgow G20 not bloody Manhattan.
I have no idea what the financial benefit to the club is from these so-called 'sponsorships'. To the best of my knowledge it has not been made public. If you are at liberty to do so, then please let us know, it would at least give us plebs a context as to why it happens.
I guess I just don't want Thistle to become an object for 'monetisation' by brands that have bugger all to do with the club.
There's more I could say, but I will leave it at that for tonight.
Cracking result today, well done to the players and the management team.
I’ll be honest I’ve no idea these days what the going rate McTears might pay but am certain that match sponsorship is good value for the club so I’ve no issues with them choosing and being thanked for their sponsorship. I’m no lover of Stadium being renamed in a sponsorship deal but if as a result of all of these deals that I’ve mentioned we get the finance to pay Miles Roberts (could be anyone, just picked him as he’s number 1) then I don’t really mind. To be fair as a former Commercial Manager at the club I might be a little biased in being happy with sponsorship deals!! I just think we are all a bit guilty of getting a little upset over things that really are pretty petty!

My only gripe after a brilliant result are the cringey and frankly embarsssing sponsors references.
McTear the auctionee for substitutionsr.
The one after the goal which probably puts the team off scoring.
The worst of the lot - which takes some doing given the above - is the Man of the Match, sponsored by Pasitti (sic) Jones. Pathetic stuff Thistle.
If you have to have a sponsor then at least learn to pronounce their name correctly.
Not quite sure what your point is here Barney. Are you saying we simply shouldn’t have sponsors for the substitutions and match sponsors or we shouldn’t announce them over the PA? It’s vital commercial income - I doubt we’d get any money off McTears if we didn’t say they were substitute sponsors. Or am I missing something in your comment.
i know it wasn’t the greatest game we have ever seen but it was a good win and I’d hope there wouldn’t be too many complaints tonight!!

Incidentally with two home games to follow, then aways to Morton & QP (Cup) before back to Firhill, we're scheduled to then have played 10 consecutive games on grass. Given that half the league play on plastic that's a rather unlikely outcome and I imagine it may well be a record since our top tier days.
And as we’ve talked about on Jagzone - no defeats on grass (in the league) and no points on astroturf!

Sorry i thought i read it in your post when Benny Rooney died. So Derek Johnstone is now the oldest living permanent Thistle manager. I must admit i didn't even consider him being the oldest permanent one. I heard Murdo Macleod on the radio yesterday and he nearly didn't survive the health scare he had a year or so ago.
Think I take the blame for that one AJ. It was a remarkable run of rubbish we went through in that period!

Absolute scenes at Peasy as Partick Thistle eliminate the Scottish Cup holders! What. A. Result.
Our top level youth class of '24 mark the 75th Scottish Cup match with the club's best-ever result in the competition, knocking out the holders for the first-time ever! Last knocked out Rangers in 1991 and ran to the semi finals…
Partick Thistle in the Scottish Youth Cup →
If I remember correctly it was 4-3 after, believe it or not, the winning goal was a penalty! Do I get a bonus point for remembering that the referee was Wilson Irvine? 😂

Pity though, if anyone from the SPL reads the statistics above that's Steven's career down the swanny!
Interestingly he did both second legs in the play offs last year - against Queens Park and Ayr only for them to give Nasty Nick the second leg in Dingwall!

Just the 43 competitive wins for Partick Thistle vs. the tainted Govan pound - it's never enough! Today we fast-forward a packed match hub looking back to the classic 4-3 in March '77, one of the all-time greatest nights at Firhill... Roughie's prayers worked!
That’s spooky - I was talking to one of the ground staff about this game and recalling that very picture of Roughie on his honches! It’s a spooky world!
edited to add I hadn’t seen that pic when it appeared here in March!

Question regarding what is a foul. It happens week after week when a defender has his arms all over the attacker, manhandling with some force, but a foul is rarely given. When did that stop being a foul.
I guess as you describe it should be a foul but there will be many which must be very close to a threshold which each ref will have - my liking for yesterday’s ref is that in the 4 matches he’s done of ours he’s been very consistent - that’s all you can ask for and that’s why I think he’s one of the best around

Thought the referee was very good, kept the game flowing even if he played the advantage once too often, but head and shoulders above the usual standard.
What was the refs name?
McBeth deservedly MoTM, a good signing.Ref was Matthew McDermid - the most recent appointment to the FIFA list in January. It is his 4th Thistle game this season having done the previous 3 against Dundee United. He is easily the best we have had this season and very consistent as to what is a foul. I think he has a real chance of going to the very top

Whilst we are on wonderful stats a word for my Jagzone co-comm Christopher Dobie who came out with the wonderful stat that he has shared on air - that since returning to the club Aidan Fitzpatrick has not scored an away goal south of the Tay Bridge! That my friends requires a doffed cap!

Anyone got a link to the Championship shares of the prize money this season? "Needle and haystack" springs to mind.
The difference per position is £75,000 - should add that’s the difference between 3 and 4 and then again 4 and 5

WJ's original post on this event was that it was a good goal if it hadn't been for the referee assistant beckoning James Craigen away. Perfectly correct. But the assistant did shush the player away.
Let's look at the corner. Did the player who took the corner move the ball as outlined in law 17? Yes he must have. If not the dribbler took and played from the corner, and took more than one touch. Indirect free kick.
Was James Craigen permitted to intervene? In the circumstances outlined above, yes.
The goal was allowed. What law permitted the referee to change the decision? Law 5 outlines the referees' authority. Law 5.3 outlines the referee's power and duties. Law 5.3 defines " outside interference". It defines interference as " stops, suspends or abandons the match for any offences or because of outside interference e.g. if.....
I remember vividly my mentor Tiny Wharton telling me yonks ago that the laws of football are written to allow that most important intervention of common sense to be used. That flexibility hasn't changed, to my mind. The e.g. above is all-encompassing, not prescriptive.
Did waving James Craigen away trigger "outside interference " ? I believe that the referee thought so. If James Craigen hadn't gone to intercept the corner, the dribbler went on and the outcome was the goal, we would have no option other than to salute the goal. That didn't happen . I believe that the assistant would have been happy if the ball had been blasted over the bar. He had the guts to acknowledge the mistake and brought about a fair outcome.
Excellent summary - the assistant, Stuart Stevenson, realised what had happened after James made his appeal after the goal was scored and did not motion towards the half way line. There was 3 way communication via the comms with Euan Norris and other Assistant Alisdair Ross before they agreed that basically the assistant should not have stopped JC from taking away the ball but did so and had the guts to admit to it

That's one maybe for Thistle Archive.
High scoring one way traffic results in the Reserves/U20s are not that uncommon, tho' I've not been at one in double figures. Over recent years I've witnessed a good few mismatches both for an against. Teams seem to be at their best when they're made up primarily of youngsters bolstered by no more than two or three genuine squad players. The former try like hell and the latter provide that wee bit of experience but don't give anything like 100%. Certainly there's usually two agendas going on. Play to win and play for fitness reasons.
I'm just speculating but in this instance with so many squad players there was a making up the numbers/keep my fitness level/don't for ****s sake get injured attitude prevalent. So you can end up with one team taking the game completely serious whilst the other plays partly under a different priority/attitude. Just giving a guess what happened here. Certainly not justifying it.
Highest score I have ever seen came at Springburn Park - reserve league fixture Partick Thistle 10 Stranraer 4!
