Question regarding what is a foul. It happens week after week when a defender has his arms all over the attacker, manhandling with some force, but a foul is rarely given. When did that stop being a foul.
I guess as you describe it should be a foul but there will be many which must be very close to a threshold which each ref will have - my liking for yesterday’s ref is that in the 4 matches he’s done of ours he’s been very consistent - that’s all you can ask for and that’s why I think he’s one of the best around

Thought the referee was very good, kept the game flowing even if he played the advantage once too often, but head and shoulders above the usual standard.
What was the refs name?
McBeth deservedly MoTM, a good signing.Ref was Matthew McDermid - the most recent appointment to the FIFA list in January. It is his 4th Thistle game this season having done the previous 3 against Dundee United. He is easily the best we have had this season and very consistent as to what is a foul. I think he has a real chance of going to the very top

Whilst we are on wonderful stats a word for my Jagzone co-comm Christopher Dobie who came out with the wonderful stat that he has shared on air - that since returning to the club Aidan Fitzpatrick has not scored an away goal south of the Tay Bridge! That my friends requires a doffed cap!

Anyone got a link to the Championship shares of the prize money this season? "Needle and haystack" springs to mind.
The difference per position is £75,000 - should add that’s the difference between 3 and 4 and then again 4 and 5

I seem to remember him having a stinker at Firhill maybe last season (Cove?) but so many of them are very poor just now
He did referee our championship winning game v Falkirk! Although those who watched the Under 20’s years ago he had a brutal one at Hamilton!

WJ's original post on this event was that it was a good goal if it hadn't been for the referee assistant beckoning James Craigen away. Perfectly correct. But the assistant did shush the player away.
Let's look at the corner. Did the player who took the corner move the ball as outlined in law 17? Yes he must have. If not the dribbler took and played from the corner, and took more than one touch. Indirect free kick.
Was James Craigen permitted to intervene? In the circumstances outlined above, yes.
The goal was allowed. What law permitted the referee to change the decision? Law 5 outlines the referees' authority. Law 5.3 outlines the referee's power and duties. Law 5.3 defines " outside interference". It defines interference as " stops, suspends or abandons the match for any offences or because of outside interference e.g. if.....
I remember vividly my mentor Tiny Wharton telling me yonks ago that the laws of football are written to allow that most important intervention of common sense to be used. That flexibility hasn't changed, to my mind. The e.g. above is all-encompassing, not prescriptive.
Did waving James Craigen away trigger "outside interference " ? I believe that the referee thought so. If James Craigen hadn't gone to intercept the corner, the dribbler went on and the outcome was the goal, we would have no option other than to salute the goal. That didn't happen . I believe that the assistant would have been happy if the ball had been blasted over the bar. He had the guts to acknowledge the mistake and brought about a fair outcome.
Excellent summary - the assistant, Stuart Stevenson, realised what had happened after James made his appeal after the goal was scored and did not motion towards the half way line. There was 3 way communication via the comms with Euan Norris and other Assistant Alisdair Ross before they agreed that basically the assistant should not have stopped JC from taking away the ball but did so and had the guts to admit to it

That's one maybe for Thistle Archive.
High scoring one way traffic results in the Reserves/U20s are not that uncommon, tho' I've not been at one in double figures. Over recent years I've witnessed a good few mismatches both for an against. Teams seem to be at their best when they're made up primarily of youngsters bolstered by no more than two or three genuine squad players. The former try like hell and the latter provide that wee bit of experience but don't give anything like 100%. Certainly there's usually two agendas going on. Play to win and play for fitness reasons.
I'm just speculating but in this instance with so many squad players there was a making up the numbers/keep my fitness level/don't for ****s sake get injured attitude prevalent. So you can end up with one team taking the game completely serious whilst the other plays partly under a different priority/attitude. Just giving a guess what happened here. Certainly not justifying it.
Highest score I have ever seen came at Springburn Park - reserve league fixture Partick Thistle 10 Stranraer 4!

No jagzone commentary today. . The commentators are flying to Tenerife!
UPDATE : as most flights out of Glasgow airport are cancelled due to snow, they may well appear at Firhill.
Sadly we are both poised and ready for action at a freezing Firhill!

Was that not the ref that McCall had a rant at and later had to apologise to ?
No - that was Scott Lambie - yesterday’s ref was Grant Irvine

Never played for the first team but James McLachlan is a huge Thistle fan. Reserve player in the Lambie era

Another piece of Partick Thistle history departs the scene and with it some lovely memories! A terrier like player who had a very steady career with several clubs and then becoming Thistle manager where his timing was lousy! He had to take over just after relegation and 2 near misses with promotion. He had a total rebuild to oversee and thankfully we did enough to avoid falling further down the ladder. Alongside his trusted lieutenant Mike Jackson he uncovered a few wee gems to wear the strip (a rather plain one sadly!) including the very talented John Donnelly, who must be up there in terms of most skilled players. Benny is strongly associated with Morton but he will also be remembered as a very strong team man for the Jags and that will go down in history.
incidentally it changes the answer to the question of who is our oldest living manager - that honour which Benny held now passes on to Peter Cormack.
God Bless Benny Rooney

Once the referee has been given the names they can't be changed.
You can’t change the order of the first 5 - after that it’s do as you please!

That confused me too. I was expecting a crowd of well over 8000 after the announcement
As seats are not allocated it cuts down on the capacity per stand

There were many empty seats at either end of the JL stand, so again there are questions about "sold out" announcements. Are they just rumours started by punters?
Attendance was 7,200. Excellent, but not full. And of course the CWS was mostly empty.
As the tickets were sold as unreserved seating you cannot sell the full capacity - you need to miss out on a number. I think it’s 1800 capacity compared to 2000 - definitely better to have unreserved seating here as it allows groups of friends to join up and create the sensational .atmosphere it was

1920-21 - Reserves exit to Rangers at the Quarter Final stage of the Scottish (2nd XI) Cup. 4 weeks later, the first eleven would take revenge!I thought everyone knew all of that already! 😉

What’s the difference between 50th competitive goal and 50 in all competitions announced by the official website last week?
https://ptfc.co.uk/ptfc-news/brian-graham-reaches-50-goals-for-thistle/
There is a difference of opinion as to his hat trick at Inverness a while back. The official sources at the club believe it to be a hat-trick (as confirmed by the referee!) while TTA attributes one of his goals to an own goal! A small difference of opinion here!

When watching the highlights and it went to the dugout after we scored I noticed a gentleman I had not seen before with the initials DD on his top - does anyone know who he is (I am assuming it is not our own Dick Dastardly)?
Also, given how successful they have been together will MacDonald continue as assistant next season or return to the Academy? I am sure Doolan would have ideas for an assistant but why change a winning formula?
It’s Danny who is our second kit man - does a power of work helping Paul out

While the SFA get a slice of the gate it will be a bigger crowd than the Queen’s Park game and a far bigger away crowd so should be a bit of extra income to the club
It’s not the SFA it’s the SPFL who get a substantial slice of the cake

Jolly decent of you chaps, thank you.
And just thinking Michael, that must be over 30 years for you now at Firhill. Getting on for a life sentence!
Saw my first game 47 years ago - delighted to have been involved as you say for over 30 years and although there have been a few low points - the high’s more than make up for it. Partick Thistle is a truly extraordinary club with amazing people, and long may it enjoy entertaining these fans. I am delighted to have played a very small part in trying to make it as good a place as possible to enjoy your 90 minutes. It’s been very humbling.
