Got to admit that I didn't recognize either of these two new signings. I made a stab at one of them (not literally!), but got it wrong. I lived abroad at the time (as now) and it was pre-internet, so that's my excuse.

And how young does The Great Lambini look here?!

I now have the players" identities, in case nobody else does.

    It’s Brian Gallacher

  2. Got to know Adam pretty well and was a very likeable young man.  We all know he had his issues but you couldn’t help but like him.  Adam, we will miss you and hope that your family can find some comfort.

It was! Wasn’t ‘Fred Gee ’, ‘Ashley’s’ dad, ….I SAY…’ASHLEY’S’ DAD (!) … a member?! That programme was so much funnier in those days!

This is my specialist subject!  Fred Elliot (butcher) was Ashley’s dad - Fred Gee worked at the Rovers for Annie Walker alongside Bet Lynch!

Can anyone make an educated guess at what McCall meant in his post-match interview about not being able to say anything in public about missing players? It could be any number of things - Covid, the pitch, the protracted fan ownership transfer - or something else entirely.

Just find it a bit weird that me mentioned it to say he couldn't mention it. (Instead of not mentioning it at all!)

Not allowed to mention anything related to Covid

  5. Likewise may I extend best wishes to each and everyone of a Thistle persuasion for 2022.  The past year has proved to be one of steady progression for the club and hopefully we will continue with that in the coming 12 months.  Please stay safe and enjoy the festivities!

Sharing a photo (copyrighted) that has recently come my way - think summer 1990. Most players identifiable from the team photo for 1990-91 in  the Official History book including a few club legends. Thistle take on the might of a Lewis & Harris select I believe.  Still trying to find out match details.Jags_IMG_20211221_0001.thumb.jpg.70a9c8ce99a8a7e24dcb11f517cdd367.jpg

Crikey I was at that game - I’ll see if I have anything listed but I don’t think I have.  It was the first of a 2 game tour - the second being a 5-0 win at Five Penny in Ness.  I simply can’t remember the details of this game, except when Chic headed wide when he should have scored but just kept saying “nah I was offside!” - which he was!

Can someone with the knowledge clear this up please.

I know that the ref couldn't wave Tunji back on as he (or maybe a linesman?) had to check the bleeding had been stemmed. I assumed that the first time he could do the check was when the ball went dead. In other words the ref was in no way at fault (in this instance at least).

    So, is this the case?

Or, can the ref stop play to check on Tunji? If so, should this happen immediately or after how many passages of play?

Or, can the linesman check the bleeding has stopped during play and the ref simply wave him back on?

btw whatever the ruling, when it was clear Tunji wasn't getting back on we should have put the ball out of play ourselves.

The ref was right. Akinola could only be reintroduced once the officials could confirm there was no bleeding - that has to be when play has stopped.  He may have got a lot wrong yesterday but he was right there.

Club record of six consecutive clean sheets. Fantastic boys.

Not quite! It’s a club record of six consecutive league shut outs.  The current record of all matches (league and cup) is seven! However wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment it has been a fantastic effort!

  9. The PT v Hearts Jim Melrose story for me just showed why Bertie was the perfect fit for Thistle. I grew up with him as Jags manager and I loved just about every minute of it.  The only part time team in the Premier League but you’d never have known.  Cracking manager and cracking guy - will be very sorely missed but will be forever etched in the Thistle fabric

Is this a good or bad appointment?

He reffed an 18 goal thriller at Firhill a couple is seasons back! and he also referred the reserve game where Gary Fraser had a ‘moment’ - I rate him quite highly and is definitely up and coming  (the 18 goal thriller was the KD Testimonial game)

    Thanks for this, Michael. :thumbsup2:

Would you say we played 4-3-3 (Tiff joining the front two perhaps) or 4-4-2 (with Turner, I assume, playing wide right)? I read reference to Tiffoney doing a good shift tracking back to help defence.

It was a 4-4-2 with Turner right sided and Tiff left sided - both worked attack and defence superbly - great shift by all

Thanks for this. BBC showed team formation as Mayo and Holt as Central Defenders witj McKenna and Foster as full backs.

    Your description makes more sense.

    Thanks again.

Holt was left centre back with Foster at left back.  Mayo and Holt were outstanding as a central defensive pair.

Just on Kevin Holt he has become the first defender to score for two seasons! We’ve been mentioning this for ages and ages and when one finally does we are not on commentary to mention it!!

Brian graham took his goal well and looked very sharp before sensibly coming off at half time. Stand out player was young Owens he ran the game and never gave the ball away once, all the youngsters where decent and none looked out there depths.  McKenzie (I think)  at right back was good and very confident on the ball,  the young keepers handling taking corners was excellent and full of confidence. Ocholi also looked a decent prospect not afraid to take a player on. The rest where quiet but steady.  Credit to Kieran McKenna who was the only player who played the whole game and I thought he held the young side together really well and lead by example keeping the ball very tidy. As for the 2 trialists, number 7 was busy but nothing special and the other who come on looked very young I assumed he was one of the weir boys originally. Finally, a brilliant feeling to see the jags in person again!

The young right full back who came on was Matthew Doherty who did very well while Zander McKenzie was in midfield (14) whose pass to young Gospel set up the winner.
