  1. Was so impressed with the precautions taken on Saturday at Firhill.  Other than the players there is zero risk of infection being transmitted at the stadium.  It must be possible to add in a decent number of fans in the same safe manner to get us going again.  We have to start trying to get back to some sort of normal and with the precautions taken for me football looks a pretty safe environment.

I wonder if Pele has ever wondered what it would be like to be Colin McGlashan....

I’m not convinced this would have been a great piece of management to be honest.  Pele liked to come a bit deeper to get the ball and use his pace and sharpness - definitely a number 10 whereas Dibble was definitely more a penalty box striker - I’m not convinced he’d have been so good playing deeper.  On the other hand John’s moving of Davie Irons to sweeper was a master stroke so I suppose who am I to doubt the master!

Talking of Tierney and i digress from the thread slightly but I mind way back when I was serving my time in GDC, I worked with a Neil Diamond (not the singer) who was a decent player and signed with Jags.  My abiding memory is him saying Grant Tierney was a good guy who helped him step up.  I lost all contact.  Would these facts be real or another of my dreams?

Certainly could be real.  If I remember Neil was a talented, if a little inconsistent, wide player signed from Benburb I think.  Not convinced he ever played in the first team but was a reserve regular and I’m sure he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Celtic. Him and Grant would have played reserve team football together.

So imagine the scene .....the govt allows football to restart and you agree a strict protocol to make that happen......it then turns out players at a club have broken these protocols and tested positive...do you

A ...go to the provisions you agreed to put in place and the actions you agreed to take having completed a risk assessment on possible issues and concerns in this situation

B....hold a number of ad hoc meetings and discussions as you react to events as they happen

C.....check your still getting paid £380,000 a year

    A little birdie tells me it’s £420k p.a. Now

Always told people it meant Forget The Old Firm....rarely was I believed!

When I was working at the club I fielded a call from someone who had been at hospitality and had seen a brick on the Jackie Husband Stand who wanted to know what we were going to do about a brick with FTOF on it.  I expressed to him that I had no idea what it stood for and didn’t think it appropriate to act.  He said you must know it stands for F**k the old firm to which I said it could mean Free the old firm because they were unable to break away from Scottish Football but he said that I knew fine well what it meant and he was going to go to the press about it.  Sadly the bosses were a wee bit feart and did bow to his wishes - I would have stuck to my guns and left it.  Whose with me? Should we free the old firm!!

Indeed Jaggernaut. 13 out of 13.  100% conversion rate but from a much smaller number of penalties.  If he had stayed at Thistle  he might have been the Crown Prince in waiting.

And none of them touched by an opposing keeper! Best penalty taker I ever saw for Thistle

He definitely came on as a substitute in a home game we lost to Airdrie. That effectively ended any outside chance of promotion. From memory we were level (1-1 , I think), when Airdrie keeper John Martin was sent off. Centre forward Steve Cooper went in goals, but was never threatened. Rather than pushing for a winner, we meekly surrendered a goal to Marvin Wilson and ended up losing. Tejero played on the wing and was ineffective, though to be fair no worse than anyone else in red and yellow that day.

Nearly but not quite.  We were 1-0 up when Martin got injured and they had no sub goalie (may have used all their subs, can’t remember exactly.). Derek McWilliams has given us the lead as we then went into 12 minutes of injury time where Airdrie netted twice, once about 4 mins in and then again about 5 mins later. NOT a good day to be a Jag!

If they are furloughed, they can't do any work for Partick Thistle, not even promotional. That is why Ross Docherty did all the modeling of the new kit as he is the only fully paid player.

As from 1st July you can use your employees part time and furlough will make up the difference up to 80%

  9. Interesting to note that Celtic v Rangers, normally 3rd or 4th round of fixtures, will now be the 11th round of fixtures, deliberately delayed till as late as possible to allow the “greatest club game in the world” to be played in front of a crowd. Now this could be just pure coincidence but I suspect more favour being shown to the bigger sides.  Now this may be police or Sky pressure but it might just be some Scottish clubs holding greater power in the SPFL. Any thoughts from my fellow Thistle fans? I’m really angry about this. Justified anger or shouldn’t I give a toss?

I think arbitration at least plausibly could lead to some sort of ex gratia solidarity payment from the SPFL to recognise the unfairness, but I suspect even that's out the window now that we've got enough lawyers involved that legal bills are racking up on both sides.

Surely an independent panel will not rule against any compensation if that’s what they deem to be correct solely because of the money spent on lawyers?

    This is completely reasonable.

There is no realistic prospect of the Clubs agreeing a permanent criteria to deal with seasons that cannot be completed because of emergencies. In times of pandemics or similar, you need coherent and decisive leadership rather than to have the Clubs squabbling among themselves.

It is sensible, in those circumstances, to give the SPFL Board actual power, but very clearly to limit it to the current pandemic.

While I generally agree do you not feel that if the SPFL had shown “coherent and decisive leadership” then we would not be in this mess now.  Good leadership would have cajoled the clubs into 14-10-10-10 at the very outset.

what makes you think that the current setup are capable of “coherent and decisive leadership” now?
