Strange game, we we're outplayed for long periods BUT every time we did get forward we looked like we might score. First goal aside, I actually thought the defence played pretty well under a lot of pressure. We did seem to lose the Midfield battle though.

Anyway, this is precisely the sort of win which shows we are truly championship potential. More than ever, I think we will be playing SPL football next year.

  2. There are a number of "Thistles" in Scotland, most if not all of which use the nickname "the Jags". We are but one of these. This has always been so- I don't really see the problem.

In Inverness's case, for fans of a certain age anyway, I would imagine that about half their fans prefer Caley and the other half prefer the Jags depending on which founder team they supported.

  3. Let's not forget, last result aside, this is a team level with us in the league and clearly no mugs. And yet I thought we were the better team, even when down to 10. We didn't take our chances and, like against Hamilton, never seemed to get the breaks. Thought Shuggie was too slow and off the pace, but didn't think anyone else had too bad a game, though no one played anywhere near their best. Another plus was Smith's performance. He seems to be coming on since the Hamilton horrorshow

It already has cost us big time we are out the cup. And for Muirhead to be caught out for what looked like to me Dargo's pace was extremely poor. Dargo looked a lot sharper with the Pars than he did with us last year.

Muirhead has had a great season but he let the club down today

Rubbish- he got caught out and was a bit clumsy in trying to make amends. Just one of those things. Nothing like Craig's stupidity in the last round

  5. Livi reminded me of us last season- not quite there. It was refreshing to see an opponent trying to play football against us for a change. Thought they were pretty decent and that our win was therefore superb- we're not going to hump everyone at home, let's face it. Very happy overall, though I had to laugh at the guy at the end who seemed genuinely put out cos we play the Hokey Cokey at the end of the match. I mean it's not my favourite track but not exactly worth whinging about after a good win like that, I'd have thought.

Mmm you obviously werent at the Queens Park game. I think the boy has the making of being half decent, but the expectations at Firhill just now are reaching a cresendo and for me personally, this is not the time to throw an inexperienced boy into the mix! Our fans are not known for their patience and with the possibility of The Fox being out to late January, a bad start could damage/finish his career

I was at that game and didn't think Scully was particularly culpable for any of the goals, and certainly not as culpable as the defence. If you based opinions on that game alone, you wouldn't have trusted Balatoni, but now he looks as steady as anyone.

  7. Did a Morton player not suffer a broken ankle after a tackle by Murray? The Falkirk player risked doing the same but I suggest that the "righteous indignation" being shown here is perhaps, at best, slightly hypocritical.

Bad tackles are made by all teams and similarly all teams are victims of bad tackles - it is fortunate, on the occasion, that Bannigan escaped without a break,

No righteous indignation being shown. Murray's challenge was reckless and was rightly punished- the Falkirk player's challenge wasn't. That's what bothers me. Particularly as he gave so many free kicks to them for nothing.

  8. Whether he went for the ball, or even won it, is not relevant (well it is, but only in deciding whether it should have been yellow or red). This was one of a number of reckless challenges by Falkirk that went completely unpunished. And the rules are clear (in my opinion quite rightly) that reckless challenges are both a foul and a caution regardless of intent or whether the ball is played. Yet the ref kept giving them countless decisions for every innoccuous coming together.

As for the game as a whole, I'd be embarrassed if I were a Falkirk fan- a professional team on their budget, at home, should not be so blatantly playing for the nil-nil, especially this early in the season and without any serious relegation fears. We weren't great by any means, but it's hard enough breaking down a lower division or part time team playing like that, never mind a team like Falkirk.

  9. It's difficult to play passing football with no space- and the combination of a tiny pitch and a well organised hard working opponent meant that space was at a premium. Thought we resorted too quickly to the long ball, but it was understandable. Had Lawless not missed that sitter it probably would have been more comfortable. Thought we defended corners a lot better than last weekend as well.

All in all a good win against difficult opponents

I think that cup replay should be abolished. On this board someone told me that there was a rule that draw games were decided by the number of corners in the Glasgow Cup. That rule should be re-introduced.

Really? Just think about this for a second. Last 10 mins of a tied game, with both teams having conceded a similar number of corners. The teams would stop trying to score in favour of the easier option of trying to win corners. Much of the game's remainder would take place around the corner flags. I suggest that this would not improve the game as a spectator sport.

  11. Thought we we're good again! Shame Sinclair let the ball bounce off him for their goal caus I thought he had a great game otherwise. Elliot a weird player- as with last week I thought we we're worse as soon as he was off the park! But I'm glad it was Dools at the end of that chance.

  12. Lots of plaudits for their goal, I see (and it was well struck) but from behind the goals it looked to me that Fox got a big hand to it and I really thought he really should have kept it out. Other than that I thought Cowden did little else and we were worthy winners. Pen of the stonewall variety.

  13. I have actually watched matches with kick-ins instead of throw-ins. They experimented with it (fifa approved) in the English lower leagues some years ago ( the match I remember was Harrow Boro v Yeading). It was awful and simply encouraged a "long ball, win a kick-in and put it in the mixer" kind of play. The experiment was correctly deemed a failure

Boycotts are by-and-large futile gestures and I take your point regarding any "achievement" but as a gesture just to make a point it might have some validity. Perhaps something like a walk-out? Any gesture just to show that decent football fans want to see a credible sport and not some financially corrupt manipulation of the game.

As I see it the threat of a boycott is one of the bigger factors in many of the clubs' thinking when they come to vote. Those in charge of the SPL clubs genuinely believing a boycott will happen is the best chance of getting a fair result
