  1. It is a Management Research Project that I am involved in with the Scottish Police College and UWS. I have been carrying out information gathering and study for over a year or so into policing within Football stadia and its advantages/ disadvantages/ costs/ implications for fans/ police/ stewards and relevant security groups and football clubs and this questionnaire is part of that information gathering process.

I HATE TLA's what is UWS - Under World Soccer, Under Wear Sha**ers or some really up market University that does degrees in TLA's.

  2. It's the same Eric Paton, I think he was released having played only a couple of games in the Hibs first team and we took him on the recommendation of one Chic Charnley, who had been there at the same time as him. I remember him playing for us, he was still very young and a bit like Paul Paton was when he came at first, and although he showed promise he wasn't the finished article. He left us and went to Clydebank, then to QoS where I am sure he was their captain for quite a while (he must have played for McCall). I was surprised when he went to Dundee, but not surprised when he scored the only goal of the match against us a couple of seasons ago at Dens.

  3. Think you're missing my point. It seems strange to me that the folk less interested in the state of the pitch are the ones handed the remit. Also coming to think of it rather strange that the tenants are in charge of the upkeep.

They do the most damage to it so they are responsible for putting it right.

However, I wouldn't criticise them too much as they appear to be doing a good job. I can remember how bad the pitch use to be at this time of year, before the rugby and with far less severe weather than we have been having to contend with this year.

  4. I was thinking about this after the game was cancelled yesterday. Now it’s my understanding that you are meant to play any postponed game as soon as possible. However, as the first postponed game was against Stirling and it was a re-arranged game that had been brought forward, then it should revert to its original date, the 22nd of March. The Dunfermline postponed game was played so next up should be the re-arranged QoS home game which was postponed, then the Falkirk league game away, followed by the Morton away game and finally the Cowdenbeath away game. Now theoretically if none of these clubs have other commitments regards postponed games against other clubs and we assume we would not arrange a game midweek before the St Johnstone cup tie, we could in theory end up playing QoS home & away in the same week, followed by Falkirk away & at home the following week. Then the Morton, Ross County and Cowdenbeath games all away, that would be 8 games in February of which 6 would be away. Now I am sure it won’t happen, given the weather and I doubt if even the SFL would be mad enouigh to make us play all of those games, but I am damn sure I couldn’t justify the expense of going to all of those games in one month.

To answer the previous questions the international is on the Wednesday so we could play on the Tuesday which would fit in with the above and the Morton game would land on the Tuesday the 22nd, although as I have said this is all completely theoretical and never happen. So it is more likely that you are looking at some time in March at least before the Morton game will be played.

This is not withstanding our succesful run in the Scottish Cup, but maybe that is wishful thinking.

  5. Must not be expecting them to bring many fans through, no trains on boxing day outwith Strathclyde. What would a reasonable crowd for them, 400-500? They can cram them into Sections 8 and 9.

It can't be a problem with the North Stand as both that and the Main Stand will be open for a packed egghead derby crowd the following day.

I just wish we got their crowds, at their last home game they reportedly got 7,546 on a Friday night. Although I would never propose that we played Friday night football, sorry Billy

  6. So when is the deduction going to take effect?

I still can't find a table on-line with the points taken off! :(

Done-dee have just gone second top of the table according to the BBC Sport website so even they don't believe the 25 point deduction is going to be applied.

Now add to that Thistle's official website.

  7. Reminds me of when we were due to play Dunfermline at Firhill and the game was called off just before 2 after saying it was on.

Talking about Dunfermline they halved their parking to a pound on Tuesday night and I was happy to pay it as it saved you walking any further over the ice rink that was at the back of the park.

As for the game being off today, I live just outside Falkirk and I have already posted that I didn't think this game would be on. Even so I had left to meet people who were travelling from further away when I heard the game was off. Its an absolute disgrace, to hell with the supporters its all about money for these clubs now. They wanted the game on today to help the cash flow and it justified the cost of switching on the USG. On Tuesday they were happy enough against RR to cancel the game early as the crowd wouldn't have justified the USG being on, although they claim it was. I am not unhappy that they have lost even more money, I am just unhappy that our supporters have.

The cheats have just gone two up the little ***** they can't afford has just score, just a shame we can't afford him.

  8. According to their local rag, the cheats are going to appeal AGAIN. They should tell them that they will have to pay the costs and that the ban will be increased unless they shut up and stop moaning.

    Cheats Courier

Yes, they can now appeal to the SFA.

And if that doesn't work they can appeal to UEFA, then FIFA, the Scottish Courts, the Scottish Secretary for Justice (well Kenny MacAskill will let anyone off)and even if that fails they can go to the European Court of Human Rights and they will definitely get off (and be awarded compensation).

Am I being cynical or is it just true that all cheats seam to get away with it somehow.

  9. Hello lads.

Didn't want to start a new topic, so I'll post this here. For travelling fans on Saturday, some information about the chances of it going on. Basically, snow is now completely gone from the pitch and the USH has been on since Monday. The covers are coming of tomorrow afternoon and going back on in the evening. Our USH is effective down to -8 degrees, so assuming no heavy snow fall we should all have a game to look forward to on Saturday.

You mean you didn't decommissioned your USH to save money like other clubs did when they fell out the SPL? However, if it is so good why was your game against RR off on Tuesday night? Oh I forgot you Falkirk folk wouldn't want to do Fifers any favours, they could have gone top of the league. Unfortunately, I can see Christmas shopping for most of us on Saturday, but I hope not.

  10. In today's match preview McCall says he has told Halliwell he is free to find another club in January.

I don't like critisicing Thistle players as every now and again they suprise you, even Willie "Bomb Scare" Kinniburgh has shown signs of improvement lately. However, I have never rated Halliwell, the only thing he seems good at is making the wrong decisions, he stays on his line when he should come out, he comes out when hew should stay, he flaps at corners and never holds the ball cleanly. Not good attributes for a goalkeeper.

As for finding another club, he'll be lucky, look at the number who have let him go since he left Clyde.

I agree with McCall, the Club should do everything they can to keep Fox, from what I have seen he has been confident, comes for the ball, can kick and has a good pair of hands. Also, it is time Scully got his chance on the bench and Hinchcliffe should stick to coaching.

  11. I was on the terracing beneath the North Stand that day with my dad. A Celtic fan gave me his scarf at the end of the game (no segregation) and said we deserved it. The best thing is 39 years later my dad and I will be at Forthbank tomorrow, I can't think of any better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

  12. The team is Berwick R*ngers..... unless your saying rovers as a wind up?

Unfortunately, I am not the one doing the wind-up its under "Season Tickets" in the official website, they hadn't got round to adding it to the "Matches" section until a few minutes ago.

  13. I see we are playing Berwick Rovers on Tuesday night. It would be nice if the official site could have someone who knew something about Scottish Football contribute to their site. But there again Berwick is in England so maybe that's their excuse.

  14. It could be that they asked a range of questions - about Thistle and other footbll stuff - and threw in the odd OF question. Then when they wrote the article they only used the stuff about the old firm. Not saying that's what happened, just that even if players did what you suggest the numpties that pass for jurnalists up here would still only print what they want to print.

True, very true, these numpties can be very devious.

  15. not sure about the black socks, would also have prefered black shorts but heyho it looks quite good :D

I also don't like the look of that vuvuzela...please no 'make some noise for the boys' day at Firhill.

Totally agree, it would appear that PartickThistleDirect are not selling the vuvuzela (yet) thank god. If anyone thinks they can sit next to me and blow one of these for 90 minutes they'll be sitting on it pointy end up. Saying that it would probably make a better noise.

  16. Because he was asked about it?

I am glad to see that others feel the same as me. I was so angry that at the launch of Thistle's new strip that they could only talk about another club's manager that I signed up for this forum. This is typical of the WoS press especially the Daily Ranger & the Sellic Son. Obviously he was asked but should have responded that he was only interested in one club the one he presently plays for (or not) and pays his wages. Alternatively he could have said that there was only one club he ever wanted to play for - Thistle. Or is that a miss quote of someone else.
