It's another big day for STUART BANNIGAN who becomes the 9th longest-serving Partick Thistle player of all-time. This is such a rare feat and he deserves all the plaudits going. Congratulations Banzo, and lang may yer lum reek!

● With his 9th competitive goal versus Ayr United, Brian Graham joins John Torbet and Johnny Ballantyne as Partick Thistle's all-time top goalscorer against 'the Honest Men'. ● 59-goal Brian Graham moves to outright 33rd in our Illustrated Top 50 competitive scorers chart. ● For the first time in his distinguished Thistle career Steven Lawless scores in a third consecutive competitive match, even adding a second for good measure! ● 48-goal Steven Lawless moves up to 46th in our Illustrated Top 50 competitive scorers chart, overtaking Mark Roberts. ● Super-sub Tomi Adeloye scores just 16 seconds after the resumption of play following his entry onto the pitch! Quite possibly this is the quickest sub goal in our history, although such precise queries can never be scientific. Quickest we can find prior to this is 20 secs, by Jim Melrose in the Scottish Cup Semi Final versus Aberdeen in 1978. ● At the 11th time of asking, Thistle register their first competitive clean-sheet of 2023-24, ending the longest such season-opening run since 2003. ● With his 45th competitive goal, Steven Lawless moves up to joint-48th in our elite competitive goals chart, overtaking Jimmy Davidson and George Wyllie. ● With his brace on the day, 58-goal Brian Graham moves up to joint-33rd in our elite competitive goals chart, overtaking Chris Erskine, Jim Melrose & Maurice Johnston in one fell swoop. ● Tomi Adeloye scores his first goal for Thistle. Peachy. ● Harry Milne's 77th minute dismissal leaves Aaron Muirhead as the last-man-standing in terms of 100% competitive game-time in 2023-24. ● Good to see a spread of 7 players on the goals/assists sheet. Per below, today we're very pleased to be introducing another 24 seasons of reserve team matches, from the mid 1930s to the mid 1950s, complete with potted match reports wherever it's possible to do so. Interestingly, Thistle Reserves were third tier champions in 1954-55 but the SFL rules prevented promotion for second string clubs!

Looking ahead, a reminder that we're still searching for information about a couple of missing reserve fixtures for season 1980-81. These are Queen's Park (A) and Rangers (H). Dates played not known. Programmes were not sequentially numbered so it's not possible to tell if they were all issued:

HARD TO WIN vs. McGLYNN
● At the time of writing, Thistle have more connections with Falkirk (148) than with any other club. Unfortunately, one of them (Ross MacIver) comes back to haunt us with the opening goal. ● Kris Doolan's Jags trail at half-time for the first time ever. You need to rewind to the 4th February 2023 to find the last such occurrence, when Thistle were behind by one goal to nil at home to Cove Rangers. ● In a second consecutive game at Firhill an opponent is sent-off. ● The prolific Brian Graham scores in a 4th consecutive game at Firhill. ● James Lyon scores his first competitive goal for Thistle to rescue a precious point in stoppage time. ● Isolating the query to a reasonable 10 competitive games minimum, John McGlynn remains in the all-time Top 20 opposition managers in terms of points-per-game. It's highly impressive when you consider he's achieved that with clubs such as Raith Rovers and Falkirk. FIRST CUP WIN IN 48 YEARS
● 21-year-old Ben Williamson makes his Thistle debut. At the time of writing he brings our club connections with Dundee and Raith Rovers to exactly 100 each! ● Amazingly, Thistle have now scored in THIRTEEN consecutive first halves. It's the longest such run since March 1938, when an impressive 14-in-a-row was registered, and the third longest run of all-time. ● With his 53rd goal, the amazing Brian Graham now enters the All-Time Top 40 scorers in terms of competitive action. ● Thistle defeat Dundee United in a cup match for the first time since 1975, when they also won 2-1 in a League Cup group game at Tannadice. That was actually the last year that the Jags reached the semi final stage of the competition. ● With only 2 defeats in 21 competitive games, Kris Doolan is wildly out in front with the greatest points-per-game ratio (2.05) of any Thistle manager in history, ahead of McNamara (1.62) and Meiklejohn (1.47). ongoing sequences: ● 8 competitive home games without defeat; 4th Mar 2023 to date. RECORD SHOOT-OUT MARATHON
● Thistle are back in competitive action after 41 days, setting a brand new club-record for the shortest-ever close season in that category. The previous record (42 days) was set in 1945. ● After featuring in all 52 competitive games of 2022-23, Jack McMillan misses the first such game of 2023-24 through injury before a ball is kicked! ● For only the second time in history, Thistle list 2 substitute goalkeepers, David Mithchell and Mason McCready creating the rare stat. We first seen such a thing on 4th May 2021 when Jamie Sneddon and Mason McCready were both listed on the bench. Almost unbelievably, Peterhead also list 2 sub 'keepers, meaning that there were an unprecedented SIX goalkeepers on the teamsheet! ● Thistle's 78th League Cup campaign gets underway. They've reached the final on 4 occasions, but haven't so much as reached a semi final since 1975. ● After just 2 minutes and 6 seconds of play, Harry Milne of Partick Thistle scores the first competitive goal of the Scottish football season for 2023-24. Shea Gordon was the last Jag to do such a thing back in July 2018. ● Amazingly, Thistle have now scored in TWELVE consecutive first halves. It's the longest such run since March 1938, when an impressive 14-in-a-row was registered. ● For the first-time in history, two consecutive competitive Partick Thistle matches are concluded by a penalty shoot-out. ● New club-records in a penalty shoot-out are set from every angle; most taken (24), highest aggregate (19), and most scored by Thistle (10). The previous goals record (7-8) was set in 2005 vs. St Johnstone. Ben Stanway & Steven Lawless score two apiece and Jamie Sneddon secures the bonus point by saving the 24th kick from (former Jag) Andy McCarthy! ● Jamie Sneddon retains his 100% success rate in penalty shoot-outs, now with 3 successful contests. In this regard, he takes over from Jonny Tuffey as the statistical #1, Tuffey having been a winner in 2 out of 2 contests. Kenny Arthur remains #1 in terms of overall wins, having been successful in 4 of his 7 contests. ● What is it with Thistle and teams from the North? Peterhead join Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Ross County and St Johnstone as the clubs with most penalty shoot-outs contests with the Jags, all now sitting at three apiece. ● In purely Scottish terms, back to back competitive games in Dingwall and Peterhead represents the second longest two-game jaunt in the club's history. Only 7 calendar dates remain unplayed. ● The amazing Brian Graham becomes the first Jag in history to score in 4 consecutive season openers. The #9 had previously scored in wins over BSC Glasgow (2020), Kelty Hearts (2021) and Alloa Athletic (2022). We REALLY wanted to secure all the birth days in time for the 100th anniversary of the cup win a couple of years ago, but one player always eluded us. Perhaps it was meant to be, as we'd have been wrong about John Blair back then. FINALLY though, we're ****-a-hoop to have nailed down the birth details for MATT WILSON, the last (and as it turns out, the youngest @ 19!) of our Scottish Cup winners to be ID'd. American immigration docs were the key which unlocked. His 'Bio Extra' entry is greatly expanded upon today...
And so, on the 126th anniversary of John Blair's birth, we're very proud to present your 1921 Scottish Cup winners, the starting eleven now fully aged for the momentous occasion. This is Thistle history being written; better late than never, eh?

Undoubtedly it was better to have crashed and burned under Doolan than to have faded away under McCall, but that was possibly the most horrendous collapse in the history of this football club. Drained. Shell-shocked. Disconsolate. Think we've all been through the wringer in the last few days. Recovery from this may not be so easy...

The hub carries a good report from Graeme McGarry, as well as several video options, and we're hoping to embed some photos from Donald Wilson soon. Elsewhere, the final squad stats tables make for incredible reading, 130 competitive goals or assists from just 7 Jags (Brian Graham, Kyle Turner, Scott Tiffoney, Jack McMillan, Steven Lawless, Aidan Fitzpatrick, Kevin Holt) which is way off the scale of normality. It's been quite the season in so many ways.

Excellent, Paul Ritchie had the honour of the dramatic last act of that season!
Today, the Jags will attempt to be promoted for the 12th time, but, if it happens, it won't be the first for June. Although they'd won the Second Division, the very first promotion (in 1897) didn't become the reality until the election vote at the League AGM on 1st June!
Weird fact... in the competitive H2H with Ross County, the Jags have won more often in Dingwall (11 times) than they have in Maryhill (10 times).
Here's hoping we can break the 4th team hoodoo today...

Does anyone know why the home stands were described pre-match as a "sell out" and "at capacity" when (only!) 6,800 home fans were declared in the end? Isn't that's 1,200 short of capacity? 🤔

We're now in the realm of living memory (for some), so hopefully some of these teamlines will fire a few memories!
