No big surprise Banningan, Penrice and OWare (plus Fox) is what McCall sees as the building of a spine of a team..   I'm not sure there are going to be any more contract extension offers, and if that is the case then McCall will be looking to dispose of up to 17-19 players that he inherited (5 have already gone). Maybe Gordon who is under contract for another season anyway and maybe Cole if he proves himself and if available but not sure he wants to keep anyone else. 10 players I believe out of contract in the summer and on top of that Mansell, Williamson and Zanatta may be forced out the door at the same time. So a massive overhall between this window and the next one. Hopefully we get news of arrivals this week!

Who are the 10 players out of contract do you know? Thinking off top of my own head Harkins, Miller, Slater, Mcginty, Saunders, Jones, Cardle, Robson, Austin and Cole? Is that the correct 10? If so assuming we sign Rudden and yet to be seen if Mackinnon will stay on for next year, I would keep Cole 100% if possible and cardle as a squad player, then perhaps Jones if he proves his worth from now till the end of the season as he has shown flashes that he could be a player . I would also keep Saunders as a back up centre back on recent form then possibly Austin if in the small chance he turns out to be a good player once fit. As for the 3 who have another year left anyway- Gordon I think is a good asset and brings goals from midfield and from the bench, Mansell get shot of at all costs and as for Williamson I know he’s not the best defender at times but his quality of delivery is something that’s hard to come by, I would like to see him stick around as I think with a competent defence (Brownlie) and a good sitting midfielder to cover his runs forward and he could thrive.  Fox, Penrice, Brownlie, O’ware, Banzo, Docherty, Rudden upfront and Zanatta if we can get the Alloa player from last year consistently is a good spine of a team to work with looking to next season with.

  2. Not sure how to feel about this one, really think it could either way. I reckon whoever scores first in this one wins it, so we need to come out the traps and go at Dundee’s leaky defence from the off and stamp some authority. Would keep same starting 11 as last week except maybe zanatta from the start instead of  Cardle but would be happy with either or, as zanatta makes a useful impact sub, something we don’t have many of out with.

I go down south on business quite a bit and when I reveal I’m a Thistle fan, it’s either “But who do you really support?” Or “Who do you support when Rangers play Celtic?”.

    Very sad.

Most frustrating thing on earth, whenever I’m on holiday in a foreign country I hear the same thing. At least you can forgive they’re from a different country/language, still infuriates me though whenever I hear “but who would you support when bla bla bla play” nobody :angry2:

  4. Great news that Cole is likely staying on so that’s the first positive of the approaching January should it go to plan. I think he could be a massive player for us in the long run, even longer than just this season should we be able to retain him. Really interested to see who McCall will get rid of as there is so many who would be worthy in my opinion, but truthfully I really amen’t sure who McCall will try sacrifice to create the space. Interesting window ahead indeed. Intrigued to see what kind of funding McCall is given too and who/how many will come in. Any rumours going around that anyone may know of yet?

  5. Now that we have already beaten Morton, I would expect or maybe more realistically, hope that we should be taking 4 wins out of 4 from these fixtures.  Which will hopefully give us a bit of confidence and form going into big away games too QOTS and Dunfermline.

  6. Mental result. Days like that make it all worthwhile. Out of curiosity does  anyone happen to know how many assist’s Ryan Williamson has managed to rack up this season? Must be a good 4 or 5 plus. Say what you will about his defending or whatever else but you can’t argue his final ball is terrific. He puts it on a plate time after time, in direct contrast to Christie Elliot who’s delivery was beyond horrendous.

We are beginning to see McCall’s influence already.

The defence has had no cover and OWare’s appearance as defensive mid sitting could well be what we need. Mind you he’s hardly won a header all season but we simply didn’t look like conceding.

Shifting Kakay to wide right is a master stroke and he should form a good partnership with Williamson.

As Cardle has been dreadful recently he can be dropped for Zanatta who needs to add consistency to natural ability. Gordon doesn’t get his place back.

I liked the way Saunders attacked the ball in the air which neither of the other 2 cb’s seem capable of.

Agree on Saunders, he’s perhaps the our best centre back defensively (haven’t seen much of Hall) but his distribution is genuinely painful to watch.

  8. Bit of a pain this if I’m honest as it’s going to be happening more or less every time for a 21s game. Can’t help but feel in future we will have games far more important than Under 21 friendly’s against Luxembourg’s of the world where we can’t afford to lose 2 starters. Part of football though I guess , Cole and or de vita can step in although annoying considering how well cammy played on Saturday.

I think McDonald was transformational (oops that word) for us last season. So it's a high bar to be compared against. I personally wouldn't see Miller's impact as so significant. At least so far.

However judged against any normal standards he's been an excellent signing. If any other player without the big reputation came in and scored this many goals we'd be absolutely raving about them.

Absolutely, I think miller is now up to 7 in about 11 games roughly, correct me I’m wrong. That’s a pretty impressive start to the season can’t imagine many have scored 7 this season already in the championship bar the obvious offenders.

For me, it should be -

Fox  - we'd have lost last Friday but for him - Caldwell was rightly criticised for chopping and changing, so Fox should retain his place, I think.

Kakay - did enough after a difficult start to suggest he's a stronger defensive option than Williamson and handy going forward too.

O'Ware and McGinty in central defence.

    Penrice.

Bannigan and Palmer as holding midfielders.

Gordon in central midfield to make the most of his runs into the box.

Millar as chief striker and moany bugger.

Cardle on the left wing, where he's most effective. Zanatta on the right pretending to be Dennis McQuade...

    5-0 Thistle.

Agree. Would go for this exact 11 bar maybe Cole instead of Palmer or Gordon.

  11. Really heart warming moment giving Erskine his good bye as well after he spoke well thought he looked emotional too. As for doolan I had a lump in my throat when he pounded the badge. A great day, credit to everyone involved  and I’m sure he’ll back one day that’s for sure. Our number 9 always!:wearethistle:

  12. I’ve never once called for Caldwell’s head and have always been one to say I’ll give him the chance but I am now at the end of my patience , enough is enough Caldwell is clearly not up to it simple as that. I believe we genuinely have a very decent squad on our hands at this level and a better squad than most teams in this league. That to me means there’s only one place our problem lies and that’s with Caldwell clearly. Get him out absolutely ASAP and get someone else in. Any decent manager who can get us organised should have enough time to try and recover or salvage any slim chance of a play of bid Caldwell May have left us with.

  13. I personally would love us to go and win it regardless, it would still be a good day out and a trophy to lift why wouldn’t anyone want that? Surely there would be some kind of financial gain from winning it, I can imagine it wouldn’t be much by any means but every little helps. The last final we reached against QOTS provided one of my favourite thistle goal memories ever when doolan equalised. Obviously it ended in misery but that’s not the point  At this point I would be happy if we won this and made a play off spot at all, then of course hopefully progress in the play offs too. Think maybe the addition of the foreign teams or more so the colt teams is what has really taken the gloss off it for most folk.

I know it is a bit early for the player in question but if we are to look out for the next Doolan, Calum Graham Play's for Ashfield FC, signed this season and has scored 19 Goals this season he came from a church league but you have to look everywhere maybe worth keeping an eye on him.

19 already? In how many games?

  15. Would like to see us win this comfortably 2/3-0 ideally and help imbed the new guys a bit. I would also add to earlier comments on Kakays twitter he played and scored on his comeback game this week for a qpr team, so hoping he is near enough fit if not fully. Personally I would go with:

                                   Fox

    kakay(If fit) Hall Saunders Penrice

                        O’Ware  Cole

        Cardle   De Vita   Mansell/Robson

                                 Jones

De Vita and Cole could swap to what best suits.

Give big Sean and Williamson a rest as they haven’t missed a minute I don’t think so far? Give Kenny a rest for obvious reasons and I also think it’s important Jones starts and gets a goal to get him off the mark as I think once he’s got his first he will go on to score a few. Get big Sena and Galasso a run out as well at the end if comfortable.
