    Concerned on 2 counts:

    • This thread has been started too early.
    • The thread title is too conventional.

I hope we can take advantage of the fact that Ayr will not be well enDowd in attack. Apologies!

Apologies? That's the best gag I've seen on here in ages! 😄

The amazing Roughie was sometimes criticized for not mastering cross balls. Even the toothless Goram never went  for any ball in his 6-yard area, yet he is considered by some (bigots) to  be some kind of super-hero. Basically, some goalies "command" the area in front or their goal, and some demand that that is the job of of their defenders.

    Discuss.

The problem is when a keeper tries to be both of these types and ends up being neither.

Sneddon was injured when Doolan took over. Not his fault obviously.

Mitchell has been solid since and has done nothing to warrant being left out in favour of Sneddon.

    KD has 6w 6d 1l after 13 games.

I'm going with KD's judgement of whom should be in the team.

And that's not intended as a negative opinion on Jamie Sneddon in any way.

In a sense we are really lucky to have two highly able keepers competing for the No 1 jersey. I certainly don't want either of them to leave as I think it's a sign of a strong team to have 2 high calibre goalkeepers.

Need to get Sneddon back between the posts. I'd also rather take a half-fit Brownlie over any of our other CBs.

Mitchell's positional sense is flawed. He keeps coming out his goals when he should stay put and thus creating confusion. Sneddon is a better goalkeeper.

Oh and a keeper, we need a keeper. Sneddon  isn’t good enough for a title challenging team. Who ever said we needed a experienced goalkeeper at the start of the season and I disagreed, you were right.

Ridgers is nothing like I remember him when he was with us by the way. I done nothing but moan when we had him. Looked great for Ict both play off games.

Without Sneddon we would have been nowhere near 4th place. He makes some errors I agree but if he didn't he would be well out of our price range.

I struggle to understand the animosity of folk towards Foster. He has been a good signing for us and shows a great deal of fight and commitment despite him now probably having a very comfortable life - there is no coasting from him.  He is probably a very strong leader in the dressing room and showed his class by giving his bonus to the young guys last year.

I missed the incident at half time but when he was walking off after being subbed, I was applauding in recognition of 4th after 36 games, but the guy behind was giving him absolute pelters, something you would never get away with in any other walk of life. I’m personally glad that Foster called him out.

The last three months haven’t been great on the park but we have achieved our target. Even if we didn’t, I wouldn’t criticise any of the players for lack of desire and I would never have anything against any Thistle player who tried. You can see the frustration in the players that we have struggled to replicate our 2021 form

Agree. Fans who personally abuse players deserve to be confronted.

  7. Did anyone else notice the Thistle player who ran up to deliver a corner in the second half but completely missed the ball and kicked the corner flag instead? I could see Tiff giggling right after it. Nothing could have summed up yesterday better.

The ticketing site is still absolutely hopeless-just tried again and after going through countless loops to try to get an adult and student ticket before it fell over, I gave up.

I just had 20 quid taken from my account despite an error message and no ticket being available to download. Avoid.

  9. I had a very clear view  from the JLS of the incident leading to Tunji being sent off.  Basically it looked like the Airdrie player was losing his balance and decided to turn this into a dive. It was not a foul. When the ref showed a straight red I was dumbfounded.  He clearly could not see from his angle  and the linesman didn't flag as far as I'm aware. Possibly the worst refereeing decision I've seen at Firhill.

Not 0 out of 9, at any rate: otherwise, what's the point of players forcing corners? 1 out of 9 would surely still be a low rate, I'd suggest, especially for a team with two tall strikers (and usually a few tall defenders) in the box when corners are taken.

On the other hand, if there really were no expectation of a return from corners, players shouldn't even be looking to get the ball to the byeline, but be told to cut in or pass back in order to get the ball into the box every time.

It's a very curious statistic, and should surely warrant comparison with other teams' performances at corner kicks.

Hmm. But how do you know it's a curious statistic if you don't have the data on other teams' goals to corner kicks ratio? That said we could definitely improve our crossing, both at set pieces and in open play.

  11. Brought 12 pals to the game today from my football team. None of them are Thistle fans. Their thoughts as follows:

    1. Poor use of space: left flank often open to attack from through Foster but his space frequently ignored.

    2. Over reliance on hopeful balls to strikers which were easily dealt with by Killie defence.

    3. Midfield often fragile and vulnerable to tackles or blocks which killed moves stone dead.

    4. Lack of guile in possession when attacking. Predictable and easily read passes on every attack.
