Very good bit of business today.

Turner is a player that has pace, youth and an eye for for a pass. With Docherty being the defensive midfielder, Bannigan play the link between forward and attack and finally in Tuner a midfielder able to get beyond the forwards our midfield looks very decent. It also changes our fomation from last year potentially pusing us more towards a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. It also pretty much says Penrice is not a starter so may be the exchange with livingston for Tiffoney is close to the truth.

Foster is a good signing. There on't be many better right backs playing in the championship next season.

Also interesting to see Gordon being talked about in the same way as MacIver. I think McCall has them down as squad players with a season to prove they can do it. Wasn't convinced by Gordon but my expectation was for him to secure a starting position and be a dominant midfielder. Perhaps he will be a better player with less epectation on him and at 23 he's still pretty young.

MacIver will probably be cover for Graham. He looked pretty decent in the air, got into good goalscoring positions but struggled to convert. Perhaps that may come and he may kick on.

Clearly McCall wants another striker.  I would assume MacIver covers Graham so I presume he looking for cover for Rudden. Maybe if the money is right this is where Dobbie fits in?

I presume the player McCall lost out to Dundee and Dundee United on is Luke McCowan.

If he thinks we need another 4 outfield players I would assume that is a striker, 2 wingers and a defender. Tiffoney maybe one of the wingers, Dobbie perhaps the striker leaving a defender and another winger. So can't see us signing Bell and Mulgrew, it would pretty much have to be one or the other unless Penrice leaving means McCall might be looking for a 5th?

No idea who the other winger would be but McDaid easy name to throw in.

    Spot on.

  3. Gordon seems a good guy even though I’ve never been completely convinced by him. I think McCall has signed him more as cover for Banzo and Doc and to fair a 1 year deal is fair. I hope to be proven wrong as I want every Thistle player to do well. If Tiff signs expect Daffy Duck to make an appearance...

  4. Joe has been great this season and his stats back that up, despite the number of crosses that failed to get past the first defender! What I liked most about him was his commitment and desire to do things in games, even if they didn’t always come off. On top of that, a true pro. I thought he would get another year, but more as an impact sub and perhaps letting him go to a team that will start him more than we may have, is best for him.

    Good luck Joe.

  5. Foster was hinting on Off The Ball at the weekend that he was staying, so I expect that he will get at least a year. I like how McCall goes for players that can play a number of positions, as this will be key next season.

I’m expecting to sign a goalkeeper, ‘Who can also fill in at Right Back...’ :fan:

  6. Penrice is a difficult one as I think there’s a player in there. He also was in and out the team as well as the different positions. During this time, Gordon was more often starting every game and with the exception of the occasional goal offered very little. Would rather keep Penrice and get rid of Gordon, who I’ve never been convinced with.

  7. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but Foster was on Off The Ball today and made a couple of hints he would still be with us next season, so I’m expecting he will be one of the announcements next weeks. Also gave his league win bonus (£2k) to 4 Thistle youth players who were in the squad. Personally think it’s a great move give how many positions he has played this season.

  8. Slightly off topic, but I remember attending a game at Firhill when we beat QOTS 5-4 and all 9 goals we scored by different players. I’ve always wondered if this is a record or if there has been a higher scoring game with no player scoring more than one? It would have been around 1999/2000 IIRC.

  9. Last night on the BBC, McCall mentioned a couple of times sitting down with Tom English for an hour long special. Do you think this will happen or was he just having a dig at Kenny McIntyre? Personally I would love to hear this as English was one of the most vocally outraged journalists about our plight.

  10. I love the idea of this thread and will be interested to see who agrees...

Ross Alexander (Nisbet), 46 now living in East Lothian. I do self publishing crime novels hence the forum name and dropped my surname because people can spell my middle name (and because of ex Rangers player Scott). My wife is a lifelong Thistle fan and (easily) converted me when we met in the mid 1990’s. I always try and be civil on this forum as we all have a common interest and goal (as per Thursday night).

  11. 100% we should accept the trophy. The trophy has nothing to do with Blazers and Everything to do with football. The players deserve it, from when the 5th goal went in and Sneddon ran the length of the pitch to celebrate with all the players/subs and canal fans. For everything this season has put the players, management, board and us fans through, I want to see that trophy lifted, even if just on the telly. :fan:
