18 goals conceded in his 5 games. Hope that is the end of him in a Jags shirt.

I'm not here to defend Stewart, & doubt he'll be at the club next season, but he was the least of our problems last night. We had 3 central midfielders who couldn't win nor retain the ball. This is an area which Doolan must address irrespective of which division we play in - a ball winner & a more technical player who can see & make a pass would be a good start.

not surprised but do think he would have been better retained in squad for rest of season.  gl at east fife james.

Personally I can't quite understand why he's had such few opportunities after such a positive start to the season. The fact that Doolan quotes McBeth may be a big clue? I would also argue he's the most technically gifted player in the squad after Lawless

Poor performance and very lucky to get a point

poor standard of football from both teams

Imo that a bit harsh on QP. Pretty obvious they're a well coached team & tactically they knew exactly where we were weakest. But boy were we fortunate to leave with a point.

A short period? McCall certainly wasn't sacked after a short period. And he thoroughly deserved the sack with the mediocrity he served up with a more than healthy budget. But if you are happy to accept the mediocrity on offer, then bash on!

IMO Doolan's most glaring weakness is his inability to react when it's clear the team is struggling. That could involve changing the shape of the team &/or making tactical substitutions. These are not mutually exclusive but his apparent reluctance to make early substitutions (eg half time on Saturday) strongly suggests that recruitment has been average at best.

That's my major criticism of Sneddon. Loves to leave the ball on the ground while he looks around the park for where to boot it, then pretends to be about to boot it when a player starts to run in on him, player stops, so more looking around by Sneddon before finally, the (too often inaccurate) punt. Or, loves just standing clutching the ball, , looking around as if he'll boot it, but then after 10 seconds he rolls it 3 yards to a defender, who then boots it........

And this is all when we are trailing the other team by one or more goals!!

Sneddon was the least of our problems yesterday (no energy in midfield, next to nothing from our wide players, another anonymous performance from BBG). I've noted the consistent criticism that he is too slow to release the ball. Next game check out the frequency with which players make themselves available. Our collective running off the ball & finding space is really poor, exemplified yesterday by players regularly receiving a pass with 2 or 3 Utd players around them. Result - we turnover the ball & concede goals when the opposition has players of higher ability than the rest of the division.

Mansell was signed by Caldwell. Akinola looked a good defender until whatever happened, Brownlie likewise until he got injured. Not sure who Lyons is but I am perplexed why James Lyon was given a two year extension but is behind Williamson, Alston & McInroy who have been overwhelmingly unimpressive.

Hard to impress when you only get 5 mins here & 10 mins there. As for McInroy, yesterday proved he is not a DM.

    I stand corrected (partially).

In my defence I would point out that I access what I want by going directly to "Scores and  Fixtures". Having done so I click on any game that interests me for a report (e.g. for Thistle games). I do not access by opening "Football" , then searching for Scottish football particularly.

The fact that a report is available only underlines my annoyance that it is not linked to the match result under "Scores and Fixtures".

Click the Scotland Sport link for any Scottish-related action/information

It’s easy to confuse Firhill with Fir Park ….

The standard of journalism in the mainstream media is clearly deteriorating. As for the BBC not bothering to put up a report tells you all you need to know. I stopped paying the licence fee last year.

Except there was a report on the BBC Sport website last night.

    This agreement means

    1. diluting the fan shareholding below 75% which means basically you can do what you want

    2. as a result the new investors can basically block certain things from happening

    3. The new investors get seats on the board

4.we have indicated we are moving towards the German model where the fans own 51% of the club and others 49%

whether you think this is good or bad it is unacceptable that such significant changes have been agreed in a fan owned club with no consultation with the ultimate owners … the fans

Last post from me on this. I can understand why some supporters are frustrated given that this development was somewhat of a surprise. But......

There's no evidence that the direction of travel has changed. Different drivers perhaps?

We have entrusted TJF board to act on our behalf. It's my view that every action taken over the last 18 months or so has been in the club's & fans' best interests. I see no reason to doubt them now.

I think the main point here is that we have changed the strategic direction of the club and the fans in a fan owned club were not consulted .

the board statement today acknowledges this.

the current board are thistle fans and are suing each other ….

Perhaps I missed something but in what way has the strategic direction of the club changed?

It’s clear Ngenwya should have started ahead of Zander , why Doolan thinks he’s a right  back is a mystery. He should have changed things more at half time and again at 60 minutes. The lack of changing things during the game is a real concern, Aidan could easily have replaced for example.

the test will be if Doolan learns from this debacle

Kris struggles to make tactical substitutions when the team is in need of a goal or goals. Today was not the first time we've experienced this. I accept that this can be challenging but it does suggest the balance of the squad isn't quite right.

Re other posts critical of Sneddon's slow distribution. From where I was sitting he lacked options. Hello Zander McKenzie & Harry Milne.

  12. Not overly concerned about today's performance but FWIW I found the timing of Doolan's first substitutions odd. We had real momentum at 2-2 & I felt there was no need to change anything at that time. Robinson particularly unfortunate to be hooked. He's an intelligent footballer & we missed his guile

Happy with this. Adeloye looked a difficult player to mark. Should get us a few goals but just as importantly create space for others to score.

Think priority now should be another centreback.  We're in a pickle if Muirhead or Williams gets injured. Failing that some sort of multi position defensive type but we'll still need a centreback pretty pronto.

Reasonably pleased with this but it's the area of the pitch where we're currently least exposed. Central defence & central midfield worryingly light. Re the latter the Bannigan/Stanway combo simply won't cut it.

A win on Saturday & I think we're guaranteed around £80k even if we lose in round 2. On that basis Doolan's strategy may be risky,  but it should allow us to target a higher standard of player.

May have got carried away. Make that £55k.

I heard Doolan say something about not using up the player budget earlier in window, because that'd mean we wouldn't be able to make signings if/when players become available later on.

I guess there's some sort of ripple effect as clubs above us make signings. Also it might become more of a buyer's market later on.

Higher risk strategy - we'll only be able to judge if has worked towards the end of the window.

1/3 of home games sell out? You’re joking, even 4 home OF games wouldn’t be sold out in the home end. Granted there would be bigger away support for some other games

Around 1/3 is 6 games. IMO that's not unreasonable, but we can agree to disagree as it's all hypothetical. Sadly.

I take your point - although I imagine repeated "doings" week after week wouldn't be nearly as depressing as Sunday's events!!

I think our matchday revenue would have increased significantly & reckon around 1/3 of home games in Prem would have been sell-outs. Additionally the feel good factor of promotion would increase season ticket sales which might have helped us improve the playing squad & therefore avoid too many 'doings'

  18. Ruari Paton & Lee Connolly at QOS are both out of contract. If Tiffoney is off (& Turner also likely to leave) we will need to fill the gap between Lawless & Fitzy. I think both these players are capable & could be affordable options.

We have got some @rsheholes in our support. If anyone wants to know why the match commander deemed the county end as the only safe option for penalties then have a chat with the absolute idiot who ran onto the pitch at halftime too drunk to stand and making out we were home and hosed. The number of people around me too drunk to stand up before kick off was embarrassing. Add that one of two of our  (adult) supporters thought it funny to pretend to hand over the ball to a county player, then throw it behind them and then hurl abuse at the County player.

Not the first incident in the playoffs were we have had fans run on the pitch during a game so if the Police based their decision on that we only have ourselves to blame. You could probably add that we gave the county manager his halftime teamtalk so an all round great piece of work by those involved.

Match was lost in our reaction to the penalty. Yes, Bannigan was stripped to come on before the penalty is given but we should have sat him back down and played another few minutes with the starting 11 who had defended well until that point. You don't make subs after moments like that and to my mind that was a bit of inexperience/panic from Doolan.

We only used 2 subs yesterday for 120 minutes on pretty warm day. You would have thought fresh legs against a County team that was running out of bodies would have made a difference. The fact we made so few subs Suggest to me that Doolan didn't have faith in any of the other subs which.

Bannigan has to have a look at himself as well. He was way off the pace when he came on and bringing him on forced us to change a system that was holding County. How on earth he managed to put the ball almost out the ground from 8 yards out with no pressure on him I do not know. He was clearly never scoring his penalty so why we put him up so early when we still had guys like Mullen and Tiffoney still to take one I don't understand. How the guy is a club 'legend' is beyond me and as much as next season will be a struggle I'm not sure I can take another season  of watching him round around a lot, playing safe passes and offering nothing.

Didn't think the ref was great. Thought he didn't give us a penalty because he thought with us being ahead the tie was over and he didn't want to be the one ensuring that. He got sent to VAR 4 times yesterday and only disagreed with the referral once and that once was our penalty claim. All other 3 were to give a decision in County's favour. Also thought he was too lenient on County fouls in the first half.

A team that can't defend a 3 goal lead with 20 minutes to go doesn't deserve promotion. No one else to blame for that other than ourselves. Starting eleven did well but I think that was our problem because only are starting 11 are able to compete at that level.

    Spot on.

I was also surprised at the lack of subs given how hot it was yesterday. I'm 100% behind Doolan but imo it's important he reflects on his use of substitutes in the 2 games he lost. On neither occasion did they improve the team's performance. Ironically in his first game he got it right - went to 5 at the back for last 15 minutes or so. Given Simon Murray's introduction effectively gave County 3 central strikers, there's a strong argument he should have done so again. Pragmatism does have its benefits.

I thought Graham played fine.  He was not getting the support from other players.

Partly agree with this although I thought it was interesting that BBG wasn't quite as demonstrative as usual when he was substituted. Injured or did he know he wasn't at his best?

In his defence, despite consistently punting balls to him in the 2nd half, we rarely had any player within 10 yards of him despite the ball rarely going more than 4-5 yards back toward our goal, either of him or Musonda's head. The result being Ayr picked up the second ball as they did most if not all the second half.

PS we don't half miss Harry Milne

Turner was very poor tonight and Bannigan was beyond dreadful to be fair so I can see why they were taking off

Don't disagree about Bannigan but it was clear (at least to me) that there was little or no guile to our game which made defending easier for ICT. IMO we only have 2 players who can regularly see/pick a pass to beat a defence - Turner & Lawless - & Stevie had already been subbed.

  22. 4 minutes ago, Third Lanark said:

I don’t recall saying that at all.  As a complete novice to management I think Doolan has done quite well apart from tonight.  I wouldn’t go as far as saying it was great as some  of the 0-0 results were turgid

Really disappointing but important that Doolan learns from tonight.  Milne's injury didn't help but against 10 men you make the pitch as wide as possible & we didn't.  Thought substituting both Turner & Bannigan was a mistake. Neither Fitzpatrick nor Mullen are midfielders & it smacked of panic

Doolan will be getting an uplift in wages for being the interim manager

The way some on here are going on about the clubs financial problems is like we are on the brink. I dont know as to what the budgets are as do anyone on this forum of speculation. Its the club boards responsibility to figure out what funds are available. We dont need two assistants for a start

I don't know what the optimal number of 'assistants' should be, although I favour quality over quantity with regards to backroom staff.

    Darvel appears to favour quantity
