Would you rotate the normal first 11 if all available? Unfortunately most of the rest of the squad assembled aren’t good enough as first choice

Probably not but not suprising certain players are starting to tire now. Ideally secure 3rd place and rest some players before the playoffs

  2. We've played well in a lot of games and gone away with nothing. Good to see we can grind out results with clean sheets cause thats whats needed this end of the season. Mitchell and McBeth seem to be important changes that have strengthened our dodgy defence. Hopefully we get a bit of that attacking flair back going into the playoffs

    Much better today.

McBeth has a real dig about him and slotted in to the defence brilliantly. Muirhead’s best game for a while as well, two brilliant blocks.

Graham and Robinson are a great partnership, both well taken goals were the least they deserved.

Morton are dreadful and we let them off the hook with some terrible decision making on the counter by Fitzy and Mackenzie. I think Zander got caught in two minds but it led to the Morton goal so hopefully a learning experience for him.

Didnt think our subs helped much or that we needed to make so many. It may have been the plan but Bannigan coming on seemed to coincide with us dropping 30 yards further back. Taking Neilson off was also a mistake in my opinion. Yes, he was on a yellow card but losing his height against their set piece was costly.

Still, plenty of positives and much needed win. Good to see wee Dougie lose his head at the guy behind the dugouts as well!

Well done today much better all round. Regarding the subs Doolan did this in the playoffs last year too..bringing on Bannigan with 20- 30 mins to go when we're cruising , messing up the balance of the team and then we're on the backfoot from there. Seems to be sticking with it though. Hopefully it doesn't cost us at somepoint

Given that the defensive set up is at the heart of our problems, would it not be possible for Doolan to get some advice and help from an experienced retired manager/player.  I agree with those arguing that it is too soon to judge him, but the man is inexperienced and needs help.

Agree he needs a defensive minded coach.

  5. We play the same team every week, make the same subs at the same time, and have dropped any guys like stanway, Lyons who showed a bit of promise. Our keeper problem has been clear since the start of the season and stewart is clearly not the answer. How is muirhead still getting a game after last saturday

    Brian isn’t happy!

Its very simple, with this defence and keeper we can forget about promotion. We can either make the changes or limp on to the play offs. That was our undoing last season, we've not addresed it so we're just falling into the same trap as last season

Get your Sneddon and Muirhead excuses in now ….

Said after the raith game we have absolutely no chance of promotion unless we change our keeper, that includes through the  playoffs. Need a keeper who can command his box, distribute and not make a mistake every 2nd game

2nd would be great. If we had finished second last season (and required to play only 4 play-off games) I believe we would be playing in the SPL this season.

My Airdrie supporter friend firmly believes Raith will fall away in the second half of the season. This belief comes from his dislike of Raith (and ex-Airdrie Manager) Ian Murray. He thinks Murray is a flash-in-the-pan type manager and incapable of Managing at an effective level for a whole season!

    Time will tell.

Think letting O'Reilly go to Thistle by basically saying you can get us promoted but we're not keeping you if you do, with the offer of a contract til the end of the season ,sends the wrong message to the rest of the squad. So agree can see Raith falling away

Sneddon at fault for the first and didn’t look close to their second but I’ll let someone in the JLS chip in with their view.

I don’t think there’s much between the keepers but agree that Jamie has failed to cement his place at the club, he’s too inconsistent. I’d certainly bring in Mitchell if and when he’s fit but needs addressing again at the end of the season.

Said it before, if we don't sort out our keeper situation theres no way we are going up through the play-offs

‘For most of the second half we were in command’….’we were in the ascendancy’…..’we have been on a good run’…….doolan clearly watching a different game…..delusional

My thoughts exactly, same response after every defeat- 'it doesn't really matter we've been playing not bad will pick ourselfs up'. Would love to see him p*ssed off just once after a defeat

Ok we have have played 15 games and conceded 25 goals which means basically we need to score at least 2 goals a game to have chance of drawing or winning … that is just not good enough … we scored 3 goals tonight but conceded 4 you don’t need yo be a genius yo know the issue

Either give Mitchell a chance or the priority in january needs to be a solid confident goalkeeper

I have no issue with Football Decisions

McCalls strength is in spotting a player and his contacts - if we had cut a deal he moved into this sort of role -I think he would have said Yes ( we are paying him for 12 Months -so we got something in return ) but certain people wanted him gone from the Club

The desperation to rush back from Ibrox -in my opinion showed it was more than just Football-  which demeans the Club reputation in Football - anyone involved should be out on there arse ( in my opinion )

McCall would have been ideal as director of football/ head of recruitment. Probably still a possibility from McCalls point of view but don't see it happening

Doolan seems like he has loads of potential as a manger but his lack of experience is beginning to show

I never had high hopes of winning today. I had hoped we would have used today to try something different that might be useful in the league and at 2-0 down at halftime surely that was the time to do something different but instead we went with the same formation and selection.

One of McCall's major failings was he would always play 4-3-3 no matter who was fit. Doolan showed some flexibility in formation last season by moving to 4-2-3-1 and then 4-4-2 but now seems to be falling into the same trap by constantly playing a 4-2-3-1 largely to shoe horn Bannigan into the team.

We only really clicked last season when we played 4-4-2. Fitzpatrick struggled badly in a 4-2-3-1 and we looked pretty slow to move the ball. It was noticeable last season that without Bannigan and with a quicker player alongside Graham we moved the ball quicker and defences struggled with the variation we had in attack. In defence it allowed us to play 2 banks of 4 in a low block and protect Brownlie and Muirhead's lack of pace. Williams is no worse than Brownlie and has potential to be a lot better but he's getting exposed in the current system.

I would like to see how we fare with the following:

                                  Mitchell

    McMillan-Muirhead-Williams-Milne

    Lawless-Williamson-McInroy-McDonald (or MacKenzie)

                        Graham-Fitzpatrick

The best we played last season was the playoff games without Bannigan, balance of the team much better without him

Stanway looked promising in the early league cup. Also far to many loan signings- never a good thing

After today’s performance a defensive midfielder should be the priority. Although Doolan brought on Neilson today to replace Williamson that for me underlined the fact he doesn’t yet trust Stanway (maybe he will send him out on loan again?).

My guess is Neilson will start as a CB in the next league game and with Ngwenya signed we have enough cover at CB although whether the quality is good enough time will tell.

Thought Stanway looked decent in the league cup and gave the team a bit more balance and energy than when they play Bannigan/Williamson

Agreed. Said from day one. Get rid of these pitches. Not required in this day and age if you're only playing 18-20 games on grass.  Shi7ebags at SFA and SPFL need to step up and have a 3 year amnesty on them and get rid once and for all.

Exactly, why should teams like Thistle have to pay to maintain a decent pitch when Killie etc. get away with it with a bit of extra cash for new players and wages, nevermind the advantage of being used to playing/training on the terrible surface

That one is squarely on KD.

Changing the formation when there was no need to, and changing the central defence when there was no need to was the root cause of their comeback.

I assume McMillan going off was due to the effects of lack of minutes recently. Understandable, but if so, why move Wasiri out to RB thereby upsetting the balance of the rest of the defence?

Also, switching to 4-4-2 meant taking McInroy - who was very good in the centre - out wide right where he was less effective. Using only one of Tomi or Anton would have maintained the shape, particularly after disrupting the back four as above.

No clean sheets in five games, of which three against lower league opposition, is manifest proof that Docherty has not been adequately replaced and that's a major issue defensively.

Hopefully this is a tough learning point for Doolan regarding his in-game management today. He's tinkered unnecessarily in lots of games before, sometimes we've just about got away with it , others we've not

Hopefully he learns from today and we don't see it going forward this season
