I've never been sure of what the deal is between a club like ours and an international shirt manufacturer (Joma, Puma, etc). Our shirts, shorts, socks have their names plastered all over them, so are they sponsoring us? Or do we need to pay to have the privilege of their name and/logo plastered over our outfit? If so, why do we pay them, and how much, given that we seem to have to accept one of their mass-produced styles that they use for hundreds of clubs all over the world (minor adjustments for local colours, etc.)? It's not as if our profile gets raised in any way, or sales of replica kits go through the roof (has anybody ever seen a Thistle top in a shop more than a couple of miles from Firhill?)
We've seen some great (and some not-so-great) ideas for outfits from fans on here over the years. Is it beyond the realms of possibility that PTFC could arrange a deal with a small shirt manufacturer to produce shirts (and a few hundred replicas) to our specifications, rather than us just following the sheep and enriching the multinationals, who don't give a damn?
Rant over.
