  1. Sorry for the delay in getting this sorted but we have finally arranged a new admin for the forum, who will be taking over immediately, and this is just a quick farewell message.

We’re proud to have been involved in the forum for so many years and really appreciate all the help we have received and the opportunities we have been given to help the club. We have been privileged to both work for the club and run this forum and were involved in seeing us go from near bankruptcy to the SPL.

Jags fans really are great and we want to thank our mods and other members for helping us keep this forum going. Especially willjag and twinny. They both gave up their time to ensure this forum was maintained and a good place to visit for other fans.

We think the forum is an important place for fans to share views, make friends and even disagree about things. Life would be boring if we all thought the same and the people who contribute to this forum are the ones that make it.

We wish all members and all Jags fans the very best for the future and  maybe we will bump into each other at Firhill one day.

So goodbye and thanks for the memories.

    Col & Chaz

    #wearethistle

  2. Just want to add my thanks for all the efforts so far. The forum is a great resource.

I'm in the same boat as you, admin, in that I'm expecting a mini Paulo or Paulette early in the new year. So my time may be limited too. Hopefully have a new admin sorted and you can fully enjoy the new arrival!

Thanks Paulo and congratulations on the happy news :D All the best for when he/she arrives

Just realised that I had never posted in this thread. Thanks for all the hard work guys. It really is a great place to hang out, at least some of the time anyway...

Thanks very much Twinny and we would also like to thank you for all your help over the years too. You have also been invaluable to us and we really appreciate all the time you have spared to the forum. Hope you're enjoying married life :)

Think the folk that have run this site for yonks deserve enormous praise.

I would absolutely hate this forum to disappear. If it would be useful, I am willing to be part of a consortium of folk that took over the running. My CV includes having enormous experience of being moderated off sites like the Herald, the Guardian, and others.

OTOH the good folk on Space.com wanted me to be a moderator. I refused.

Dunno, is that a job application?

Thanks Douglas, we have sent you a message.

    Cheers

  3. Here's hoping that others will take up the challenge, as it would be tragic to lose this.

    Ditto.

Credit to the owners of this forum; they've provided a excellent AND crucial online meeting place for all of us, regardless of our different points of view.

    Agree with above

I really hope that this site continues to operate, it has been very well run and strikes an excellent balance between free speech and responsible posting. It might be helpful to those who may be interested in helping to run it to know what skills are required, and perhaps admin could set these out.

Would just like to say thanks to you guys for the forum.

Thanks very much for the comments above

Can I pass on my thanks to the current admin team for providing the best source of Jag related chat available. It is a life-saver for us fans who are remote from Glasgow.

All the best to yourself, Mrs. Admin and the future Adminlet

Thanks Dick Dastardly, Mrs. Admin is doing good and the little Adminlet is practicing it's kicking technique :D

This forum has been and still is an excellent resource. Dare I say that perhaps it's time to look at introducing a measure of payment to help in its upkeep? I'd be prepared to pay a monthly subscription, perhaps to a fund for those that feel they can do so (so that others wouldn't be excluded).

Thanks Fearchar, we have made a deal with the hosting provider that secures us free server space in return for our advertising rights on the website. So all that's left to pay for after that is domain names and forum software upgrades. We are happy to cover these costs as long as the forum is being used.

The cost probably isn't that much to be honest if I recall from previous incarnations. It's purely getting someone to take responsibility for the upkeep. There probably isn't a great deal to do now either as this forum is up and running and should just keep going. I don't really want to run the forum again but I'll help out if anyone wants to take it on.

Would just like to say a huge thank you to you Willjag for all your help over the years. From the initial advice you gave us when starting this forum to all the help you've given us with maintaining it over the years, you've been invaluable to us.

We have ran this forum for 5 years now and have really enjoyed it. Over the past couple of years we haven't had the time required to dedicate to the forum, and over that time the forum has sort of been neglected which we would like to apologise for. We have had a busy few years and now we're expecting a baby on top of our other commitments - so it seems as good a time as any for us to call it a day.

No apologies necessary, you've done a great job. And congratulations btw.

What's involved in running it? I would imagine that it's mainly down to deleting posts that are ott. And making sure that bans stick. To achieve that you need a group of people who are on here 24/7.

I tend to look at the forum a few times a week, so I am not your ideal candidate. But there are people who frequent this forum far more frequently than I. Lady Isobel Barnett, Blackpool Jag come to mind, but there are many others.

A group effort might be good?

Thanks very much Douglas Clark, we wouldn't be against a group effort but it's all down to who offers their help.

Don't lose any sleep over the forum (potentially you might be losing a bit of sleep in the near future for a much more positive reason).

It is a great place to discuss, praise, argue, fall out, make up, gurn, rejoice, in fact it is almost the same as having a child, but you have done your bit as regards the forum and for that you are due a great deal of credit.

Thanks very much JeanieD, glad you have enjoyed using the forum. Hopefully having a child will be a walk in the park after this...

I read the forum everyday don't often post.. Im happy to help out if i can

Thanks for the offer Dougie247, we have messaged you.

I love the forum. How are you getting on? Has someone agreed to take it over yet?

Just like to add my thanks for all the efforts of the people who make this forum possible. I don't post often, but as a Nomad I use it as the best way to keep up with all things Thistle.

    What's the situation so far?

We've now got a few offers of help to take over the forum so will be back in touch shortly. Hoping for new Admin in the new year.

  4. To all members,

This is a post about the future of the forum and we would ask that you please read. We've tried to keep it short.

However, we are aware that many fans still use the forum regularly and we would like there to be a place online for thistle fans to keep in touch.

So what we are proposing is that we take a step back and basically just take care of the forum's design, development and hosting and allow someone else or a group of people to take over the actual running of the forum. If someone comes forward then we will upgrade the forum software and then work with the new admin(s) to refresh the look and feel of the forum. We will then continue to look after that side of things and implement any new ideas that require technical assistance. Everything else will be left to the new admin(s) and they will have full control over the forum.

If you would be interested in this or would like more information - then please get in touch with us at: [email protected] with the subject 'Forum Admin' and we will take it from there.

We are still working on the details of how to hand everything over but will hopefully have the new admins in place before the end of the season and have the upgrade/refresh in place for the start of next season.

If nobody comes forward then i'm afraid we will be looking at closing down the forum.

Hopefully it won't come to that but we will post again to let everyone know what is happening either way.

    Cheers

  5. We received an email today from EA sports asking us to post this message on the forum to promote a competition they are running. They are looking for an expert on the Jags to help them on FIFA 14.

    Good luck!

EA are looking for really knowledgeable Partick Thistle fans who can provide expert feedback on the team and players in the video game of the FIFA series.

To register your interest, please visit:

    http://fifa-talentscout.ea.com/

Convince us that you are the right person to help develop the Partick Thistle data and we'll be in touch!

We also have a twitter profile which is constantly updated with tweets when we need new reviewers for certain clubs.

    http://twitter.com/EA_TALENT_SCOUT

*Please note that you need knowledge of the English language to be a reviewer/editor as all of the data environment is in English.

If you require some images for promoting Talent Scout then do not hesitate to email me about it.

    Thanks,

    Richie.

  6. This has nothing do to with censorship. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you don't agree with what Thatcher stood for or done to the country then express that. We just don't think that there is any need to celebrate the death of someone.

Feel free to start a thread to discuss Thatcher - but the thread we closed was just a thread laughing at a dead person.

    Cheers

  7. Obviously but why would somebody alter one of the most relevant dates in our history in a video about our history?

Just to say about the ticket - i'm gutted about that. Downloaded that image from the Internet so not sure where the 1871 came from. I've got an updated version of this video (with original ticket) and will post the link later - on my way to the game just now. Thanks very much to everyone for the comments.

    Cheers

  8. Hello Derby Jag,

Had a look at the settings and the max image size for both images used on your profile page and images posted on the forums is: 2,000 kB

Most avatars used on the forum are roughly 2-3 kB so 1MB seems like a pretty large image. If you have photo editing software such as photoshop or even the open source (GIMP) - you could maybe try resizing the image to 150px width and 150px height.

Please give me a PM and I will be happy to look into this more for you and I can also help out optimising the image for use as an avatar.

    Cheers

  9. Thanks for the feedback, the forum is everyone's so we would rather you liked the look of it and how it works. Please give us as many suggestions as you want.

Hopefully the new style will grow on you but we are also working on a few more themes with different colour variations. Also need to restyle the mobile theme, currently it's just the default ipboard mobile theme, so will have a look at the font.

We will also be fixing a few issues tonight, like the calendar and page links, few styling things and updating the forum with new features.

    Cheers

  12. I got an android phone a couple of months back and noticed no thistle apps. Even the gypos had some apps!

I created a basic android app for Thistle which gives quick access to the BBC sites for Thistle results, news etc.

    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dlss&feature=search_result

I could make a paid version with more functionality and all the money raised going to the fundraising.

My thinking was a mobile web page version of this site or a mobile web page with Thistle news, which would only be available via the app? Could anybody create these pages and I could add them to the app?

I am open to any other suggestions.

    Cheers,

    Davie

    Hello Davie,

We actually already have the mobile site version of this site available here: http://www.wearethistle.co.uk/forums/public/mobile.html

...and we are due to upgrade software soon, which will give us an even better mobile site.

We also have a live news app hosted here: http://www.wearethistle.co.uk/livenews/

...we have suggested this to someone at the club and are hoping to release an official PTFC app soon as well as an unoffical wearethistle app - just taking time because there is only 2 of us.

If you want to get involved in any of this stuff - please just let us know. Otherwise good luck with the app.

    Cheers

  13. On October 23rd 1971, eleven men in the colours of Partick Thistle produced arguably the greatest ever shock result in the history of Scottish Football. A result that prompted legendary Scottish football commentator, Arthur Montford to famously declare; “What a Sensation, it’s 4-0 Thistle”.

In the 1971 League Cup Final at Hampden Park a predominately young, universally exciting Partick Thistle side humbled Jock Stein’s previously all-conquering Celtic team by four goals to one.

On Saturday October 22nd 2011, almost exactly 40 years to the day of Thistle’s greatest ever triumph, the venue is once again Hampden Park for a celebration of that truly sensational result.

This though will be no staid look back at one of the Club’s yesterdays. Rather it will be a celebration in true sense of the word, and not just of that famous result, but a celebration of Partick Thistle Football Club in general as well. A night for all Thistle fans; young and old to enjoy. All kids that attend the event will be given something to help them celebrate each of the four goals with.

This will be a night of colour (red and yellow obviously), music, laughter and, of course, football. So dig out your scarfs, flags and banners so clear your throats, the bars which will be open should help with that, and get ready to raise the roof in celebration of Partick Thistle. This is the only party in town – make sure you don’t miss it.

Included in ‘1971 – What a Sensation’, will be:

    • Music from Neil Sturgeon (The man who wrote and sung ‘Follow Thistle’)
    • Songs from the Shed Boys.
    • Entertainment from a top class comedian.
    • Jags videos from Colin Scott where Thistle always win.
    • Unique interviews from 1971.
    • Presentation of the 1971 League Cup winning team complete with the League Cup itself.
