  1. miami vice is very entertaining but probably a bit too cheesy. cracker and prime suspect or are they 90s serieses?
  2. How can anybody say that first season of BB was slow burning lets go over the evidence of first few episodes. SPOILERS ALERT First episode - surburbian teacher discovers he has cancer and decides to go against surburbain middle aged life and cook crystal meth. ends with methlab up and running and 2 people seemingly dead episode 2-3 - the episode where walt has to confront whether he can be a killer or not with crazy 8 - does it . skylar confronts jesse in this, nearly discovering whats going down and dont forget the decomposition of the bodies stuff they had to do with the bathroom collapsiing. By episode 6-7 we have the whole tuco stuff going down and that was season 1. if anybody thinks thats slow burning id hate to see what its compared against. I mean compared against the other 2 holy trinity of tv shows (sopranos and the wire) its far more pacy... think its the most pacy parts of breaking bad in comparison to the other seasons.... methinks theres an element of hipsterish hating on BB just for the sake of it happening here IMO
  3. thats the same as me. ive watched it sporadically when i was a kid, but this is the first time i've paid attention to a whole season and found myself a team. Guess its just luck that the team ive ended up with are having an amazing season and are currently number 2 in the odds to win the superbowl.. 3 games coming up in wembley for next season, i think im gonna go to watch the dolphins v the raiders. Think i might go for the dolphins cause they were one of the teams i liked when i was a kid despite never watching them play in that era... http://www.nfluk.com/tickets

am actually at some point going to do that. apparently he made some hegelian case against homosexuality at one point of his career!
  5. it is football belonging to the same family as soccer.
  6. never watched treme. will have to check it out as ive got nothing to watch at the moment... Orange is the New Black is a great show on netflix.
  7. A few people ive seen say this that its a bit slow to get into breaking bad. I dunno how to answer that, i was hooked after the first episode. How far into it are you??
  8. For that reason, i'm really glad that i watched breaking bad from about 2 years ago before it got hyped up in the last few months. Also, so i can boast about discovering it first I personally think it stands heads and shoulders above the rest, even the wire. The wire's final season i think really let it down. The sopranos, i think was a bit repetitive, ie every season seemed to have the form that someone would come into the mix, cause a bit of hassle, and then would have to be offed. The ending was really ******* shit with the sopranos too IMO.. But to be fair to the sopranos, i think it was written before this format of tv shows taking over film and novels having long drawn out stories: ie it was pretty episodic at times. Going back to the original question - the danish killing was ******* rad. Some old school tv shows are worth watching as well such as Cracker and Prime Suspect. Luthers about the only decent contemporary british tv show. british telly is shit these days.. Edited to add: Sons of Anarchy. Love this, its probably second division in comparison to the holy trinity of sopranos, breaking bad, and the wire. But it is pretty entertaining - a wee bit like a white trash version of the sopranos
  9. wondering if the cardinals are going to get in the way of the 49ers getting their wildcard place... mental that the cheifs are now in a position of only perhaps getting into the playoffs through wildcard status - its a funny old game nfl. great first season to be a seahawks fan!!!
  10. the sopranos is up there with the wire and breaking bad. boardwalk empire might be worth a go as well although thats still on going might be better to wait till that ones ended. same goes with the walking dead. if you have netflix or lovefilm should watch hatfields and the mccoys which is only 3 feature length episodes though...
  11. Guess we'll see, maybe they'll get their mojo again next time againt seahawks So how does it work once the play offs happen? http://www.justbookies.com/Articles/NFL_Betting.htm?gclid=CPecv-aF77oCFUNe3godwBcADg Seahawks second favourites to win the superbowl according to this. Surprised to see the cheifs so low down on that list. Kinda sad they got their first loss yesterday...
  12. 49ers consigned to the dustbin of history.
  13. the only duty of care towards under 16s who don't have their guardians with them is the club. not any supporters.
  14. This is the thing about symbols in general, what they symbolise changes all the time in correspondance to changes within society. So in a sense the person that holds the traditional notion of what the poppy symbolises has a totally different set of connotations in mind than someone else coming from a different set of circumstances that consequently entails a different set of connotations. So any bun-fights that result from that situation is a bit tragic given that neither viewpoint is directly in opposition to the other viewpoint since different assumptions are held - they are arguing over each other, rather than arguing with each other. This is why it should be personal choice, and thats why any public promotion of something like that is just going to muddy the waters which sadly results in the situation where people who have the traditional set of beliefs in correspondance to that symbol may feel reticent towards displaying that symbol. ETA - one last thing, the main disgrace that is dealt to the armed forces is the fact that the state won't provide them and their families the care that they need after making the ultimate sacrifices with their lives and their limbs for that state. The fact that there is a need for charities like 'help for heroes', the fact that buying the poppy raises money for veterans needs is a cause for condemnation of the UK rather than a cause of celebration - and shows that the WW1 notion of men and women being expendable cannon fodder is still very much the prevailing assumption.
  15. Absolutly, i think it has over the years been used as a way to gain assent from the public towards unpopular wars - in a sense exploiting the rememberance of WW1/2 - a far greater problem to the memories of those who died in those wars IMHO than peoples refusal to participate in such matters.. It is that element of securing assent to unpopular political decisions that makes some people reticent about participating in it. Also obviously within scotland there are plenty of people who have connections with countries that have been on the recieving end of British armies implementation of UK colonial policies which is therefore likely to cause some level of ambivalence. The fact that there are a lot of factors to be considered is why IMO it should be something that is a personal choice rather than something that is promoted by various institutions within society.
  16. three clubs not doing that in the spfl - seems like a bit of a pattern there tbh.
  17. good to see the seahawks having an emphatic over 30 points win this time. also good to see it happening away and not having the 12th man advantage. Only got to see the fourth quarter of that game sadly - although good to hear the commentator saying the 'hawks are championship material . watched 49ers V carolina though. was a total slug fest - really enjoyed it. despite 49ers losing to that, i think seahawks will lose to the 49ers when we play em next @ san fransisco. think the 49ers should have tried to have played for one touchdown instead of one of those field goals.. looking forward to seeing the cheifs playing next week... will they make it 10-0?
  18. what wind of change is that?
  19. 27-24 seahawks. the definition of 'winning mentality'
  20. when i learned more about the packers they looked just like the kinda team id support with their fan ownership thing. but looks like im stuck with the hawks
  21. ****sake seahawks. getting royally pumped by the worst team of the NFL. ******* 21-0 and second quarter aint over yet
  22. should be an easy one against the buccaneers tonight
  23. oh yeah. and the cheifs 16/1 to win for the superbowl. that seems pretty good odds.
  24. haha. didn't see this post - well who at the moment is top with 7-1 speaking of the 49es I watched half of their game in london against the jaguars. It was quite scary how easy the 49ers worked through their defence considering the problems they've got at the moment with their wide recievers. The amount of yards the 49ers covered in single plays was pretty immense. A lot of those plays were pass and run plays as opposed to rushes and yet the 49ers apparently are more of a rushing team than pass and run team.. So was them being so good against the jaguars defence down to the 49ers being so good or is it down to the jaguars being so shit? Why are the jaguars so shit? I'd've thought that with the draft system and all that that there wouldnt be such a divergence of quality.. There has been a lot of rumours about how NFL is going to bring a franchise to london and having jaguars as the "home team" for the international series seems to be a sweetener about getting UK audience to identify with them since the franchise is apparently weak where it is situated just now. At that game, most of the fans where on the 49er side by virtue i guess with being american football fans in the 80s and seeing one of the best teams ever playing. I think in american football (feel free to correct me if im wrong) that people are ok with identfying with one local franchise and then another if it moves or is wound up. But i think in the UK the kinda supporter culture associated with soccer where one sticks with their team no matter what might be problematic for people to switch from their pre london franchise team to the london franchise team should it come into being. If that be the case wonder how the NFL are going to handle that in order to extend american football this side of the atlantic? Im already stuck with the seahawks it seems!
