I assume the delay in a perm appointment being announced was due to someone else and taking Ferguson, McCann , dodds and McGregor from under our noses 🤣🤣🤣
This should create some vacancies on the BBC Sportsound pundit team, which hopefully Kris Doolan can fill.

I take it to mean that the board will issue an update about the interim management team sometime this afternoon.

Hindsight of course informs us that would have been the correct decision. However, it would have been harsh based on our overall form and position at that stage (those two consecutive losses followed on from two consecutive wins)- it still could have been turned around at that stage (we even won the next game).
The run where his position became untenable to most began 5 games ago really. And even then, there were perfectly valid arguments for sticking by him (we were/are still 4th and in the promotion hunt). It's not exactly Peter Grant at the Pars (or even Caldwell). I really don't think his status as legend gave him any leaway in the end.
I think that there is a quite reasonable argument to the effect that Kris Doolan's legendary status led to him being removed somewhat earlier than might otherwise have been the case. I think that I commented last week (and the same theme was echoed on the Draw Lose or Draw podcast) that I was relieved that the decision was taken when it was, before matters perhaps took a more ugly turn. I do not think that many people whether board members and/or fans would have wanted a scenario to transpire especially at Firhill where fans were shouting in forceful terms for Doolan's departure. With another manager (take for example Gary Caldwell) there would perhaps be less worry about a nasty shout fest developing, and the board might be willing to dig in and batten down the hatches for a while longer.

Think that’s the 3rd time this season we have lost a goal when temporarily down to 10 men this season. Hasn’t mattered whether we have been able to get players in the right place or not.
You managed to do your shorter post while I was composing my longer one!
-
That is 3 times this season a player has had to go off for temporary attention and the opposition have scored, usually by targetting the place that player has vacated.
First Away v Hamilton (McBeth)
Home v Dunfermline (O'Reilly)
Yesterday Home via Airdrie (Bannigan)
That is not something I can recall in previous seasons. Numerous times we have gone down to 10 or even 9 players through sendings offs, and we have eventually often understandably conceded goals and lost games. However, I do not remember such an instant impact when only temporarily depleted. Should there not be an automatic "response mechanism" for managing such situations? Usually it is only necessary to cover one phase of play.

There were many plusses and minuses yesterday which have already been analysed on this thread. I would just want to take a moment to praise the performance of Logan Chalmers. Some of his touches and ways of leaving defenders standing are wondrous to behold, and insofar as any creative player can be expected to be, he is achieving an increasingly consistent level of effectiveness. We would enjoy his contributions even more if the rest of the team was functioning better. Anyway, credit to him after a difficult start which might have caused lesser characters to fade from view. It would be great if we had a similar threat coming from other quarters.
Surely a stick-on for player of the month unless he does something truly awful against Livingston on Friday 28th February (had to check my PTFC calendar on the wall to ensure that Friday is indeed within February, and, looking at the management team featured, realised that the curse of the calendar has struck yet again!).

How do people hear these rumours? I'm always the last to know in my work and own house.
Mitchell
Megwa Ashcroft O'Reilly Reid
Martin McBeth
Ablade Stanway Chalmers
Graham
I know exactly how you feel. Everybody else knows everything, but we remain totally out of the know!
I like your team, and would just be making one change in personnel and one in position. I am moving Stanway back to take McBeth's place and bringing in Fitzpatrick (expecting Fitzpatrick, Ablade and Chalmers to interchange their positions to keep the defence guessing, and also to use their pace!).
I agree that Fitzy has not been great recently. However Graham seems to have some influence with Fitzy, so perhaps he can bring out something which produces a better performance.
I am also expecting those I have omitted (Turner, Crawford, McBeth etc) to come on desperate to prove that they have more to offer.
How about a total reset, beginning with shooting towards the John Lambie in the second half?!

Good at resurrecting lost causes and restoring hope post Easter, and ascending 40 days later, which seems to be just after the SPFL play off final.

If it was this time last year, I would have been very interested in Rhys McCabe. His star may well rise again. However, no matter the mitigating factors and the recent brief upturn, the colossal run of poor results this season surely cannot be ignored.
Never like being negative, while not also trying to be positive. However, really have no idea whom I would want to see as manager. Would prefer a proper recruitment, application and due diligence process. Maybe we will be surprised by a brilliant candidate coming in from left field. How about Andres Iniesta, the rich man's Stuart Bannigan? Surely he could get a tune out of our squadron of midfielders?

Sacked while still in second-ever best manager position in terms of points per game, despite a terrible recent run of results. Whoever takes on the job next needs to be prepared to get the boot sooner rather than later.
Fair point, though if the table could somehow be weighted to reflect proportion of games managed in the top flight to proportion of games in lower leagues, then it might look somewhat different. The likes of Dave Meiklejohn, Bertie Auld and Alan Archibald would be climbers, while Jackie McNamara, Kris Doolan and Ian McCall would be on the down escalator.
-
Sad to see Kris go, but I think the right decision before perhaps the atmosphere took a more unpleasant turn. Many thanks Kris, and all the best for the future. I think that I can still wear my Doolan 100 scarf.

Surely the idea of a Director of Football has bitten the dust given our parlous finances, and the more pressing short term problems on the field.
Yes, I do not want to be a mini-JJ, but one area where I do have some common cause is a healthy scepticism as to whether multiple and apparently expanding off-field appointments are helpful in achieving on-field success.

We need someone to take over as an interim until such time as this new director of football can be appointed and offer someone the permanent role. There are no other obvious candidates as an interim manager.
I am not an expert on who coaches the various academy and youth squads and who is employed by Thistle and who is "freelance", but are experienced ex-players such as Craig Dargo and/or Mark Wilson not on the books? They should still recommend respect, but perhaps provide a calmer and less "combustible" alternative to Brian Graham as interim manager. If Graham were approached as player-manager, he would have to (at least temporarily) relinquish women's team responsibilities as surely he (unlike Douglas Ross) cannot do 3 jobs at once. That would create further complications.

Stuart Bannigan has been one of our few decent performers in some of our recent games, but his behaviour in the lead up to Raith's third goal was shockingly immature. Very fortunate not to be sent off. The instant replacement by Ben Stanway was one of the few things Thistle got right yesterday.
-
With most Thistle defeats you can find some element of excuse or cause for optimism. A sending off, poor refereeing decisions, unfortunate breaks, a worldie goal by the opposition, a late fightback, inspiring performances by one or two players, just a one-off bad day at the office, or at the very least some indication that a change of personnel or team formation might lead to something better.
Yesterday there was nothing.

We are 8 points ahead of Morton who have 3 games in hand. Shades of 2012-2013.

You’re right that Fitzy wasn’t involved at all. But please tell me what players were involved
Chalmers and Ablade to an extent in the first half, but they both regressed after the break.
Stanway tried hard when he came on, in contrast to most of the rest of the team.
I thought Reid had a good first 15 minutes and looked bright and lively. He kept trying to play forward and was looking for passes played ahead of him for him to run on to. He soon realised that this was not what was going to happen and he was drawn down into the same mediocrity as everyone else.
-
We did win a corner!

Reid looked quite reasonable in his first 15 minutes. Bright, lively, making runs and expecting forward passes. Soon realised that these were not coming and sank back into the same lethargy as everyone else.
I gave Ablade and Chalmers pass marks in the first half, but they regressed in the second half.
Stanway tried hard when he eventually come on. That was about it.
We did win a corner.
-
Looks like the invisible Crawford rather than Stanway.
-
Hapless first half performance. Ablade and Chalmers possibly approaching pass marks if I am being generous. The rest dreadful.
Keep passing the ball either straight to the opposition or into the middle of nowhere. Also constantly playing backwards which means of course that if possession is turned over we are automatically on the back foot.
Not sure what to suggest. Reid and Stanway have to come on to provide a left back and a bit of effort respectively.
I normally do not identify with comments about players not looking interested but today it is difficult to disagree.
No idea how the current malaise can be turned round.

With Graham, Lawless and Mackay all out, looks like we will be somewhat short of choices as regards starting places and substitutions in the forward areas. Much will be expected of Chalmers, Fitzpatrick and Ablade. Turner could be a Number 10 to add to the forward options.
By the way, is there any confirmation as to how many games Graham is suspended for? I have heard that he picked up 2 red cards last Saturday (the second after he left the pitch-I had thought at the time it was for a member of the coaching staff). Therefore I am assuming that it will be more than tomorrow v Raith, but others may be better informed.

I think that there is something in that.
I suspect that fitness can be measured in many different ways, all of which are equally valid, but for different purposes. I find it hard to believe that professional footballers coached full-time by professional coaches will not be fit by some metrics, but maybe these are not the metrics really needed.
For example you could measure fitness by how many times in a row you can run up Cleveden Hill dragging a tractor tyre behind you. Or it may be something to do with these devices players wear which churn out numerous statistics about ground covered, number of sprints etc.
I think what Jaggernaut and I are looking for is that mental freshness which means that you are sharp and on your toes, ready to move and react quickly and effectively to whatever the opposition throw at you and/or the opportunities that suddenly present themselves. It is not that the players noticeably tire so that they perform worse towards the end of the game than they do at the beginning. It is more that they are equally poor, stodgy, and slow of thought and action throughout the game.
Let us hope that whatever "fitness" Brian Graham and Mark Wilson want to improve produces a more dynamic and initiative taking performance from first to final whistle.
