    Standings after Women's 4th Round

Very Bitter Jag 9 points clear as BILL.H slips back. Healthy points scoring but the chasing pack make up no ground on the leader.

Quarter Final fixtures will be up tomorrow evening.

When you apply my "double your points" bonus for being the only person to predict that Hibs would beat Glasgow City, I will be only 1 point behind Very Bitter Jag.

Denis played football in a cloud of unconscious genius - he is also one of the nicest men ever to lace up a pair of boots...

Wonderful turn of phrase! And I agree with the last part of what you say as well. Denis always comes across as someone who is very grateful for so many things.

  3. I thought that the plan was for James Lyon to go out on loan, but maybe other things that had to happen first have not fallen into place and/or a suitable team has not been found.

Perhaps he would have had to look to League 1 to get a starting place. However, it  did occur to me on Saturday that he would be uniquely suited to Airdrie's style of play with lots of movement in the attacking midfield area and sharp passes to feet between nimble players.

First 45 - enjoyable, balanced, good passing

Next 30 - less quality but chippy and enjoyable

    Last 15 - yikes

Dools seemed content to play for the draw by the time Lawless/Banzo were subbed off.  Assume there was a high likelihood of one of them getting a red before the game was out.

Don’t normally pick MOTM’s but I thought Neilson was solid all day.

Not so sure about Banzo, but Stevie was certainly teetering on the edge of a red card. He was the victim of a series of poor decisions by the referee, not being given a free kick when fouled, and being penalised for nothing much. For some reason the referee choose to book him for a minor playing the ball away after a free kick was awarded against him when similar actions by others had gone unpunished. Stevie seemed to be getting aggressive with his frustrated verbals and therefore removing him from the scene was a wise choice.

  5. First 15/20 minutes we were absolutely excellent. Airdrie then worked their way back to equality. Airdrie do play a unique game, totally different from say Morton.

Their goal not total surprise. Sneddon seemed at fault in not securing the ball. Our equaliser came from nowhere but was assured and clever finish by Adeloye.

Can we get the tactics right in the second half?

  6. Agreed that O’Reilly for Muirhead is the only possible change. I think that the key may be whether Robinson can recapture his excellent form from last week. If so, I can see his activism disrupting Airdrie’s characteristic tactic of playing out from the back and picking out the free runner in midfield.

  7. In the early part of the season McMillan was out for quite some time injured, and Milne was not playing at the high level he has thankfully now reached again, plus I think he might have had some injury absence as well as definitely a suspension after his red card at Morton.

At that time Ngwenya filled in pretty well on both sides (although naturally more comfortable on the left) and had a fair bit of pace on the recovery if caught upfield (inevitable in our style of play).  As said above, he would not now start ahead of Milne or McMillan, but would be a very solid option to have on the bench.

Ahead of their big Scottish Cup Quarter Final tie on Friday, we're delighted to present our latest permanent pages to the Thistle Archive, profiling the main Partick Thistle youth team, per below. We'd like to do more for all of the teams who represent Partick Thistle, but time and data constraints dictate that it's not possible to compile all of the historical season-by-season lists. As far as our youth teams go, we've at least made the effort to list full results for our top level youth team for the latest two seasons, as well as their full results history for the Scottish Youth Cup (1985 to date) and the short-lived SFL Youth Cup (2006 to 2010). With special thanks to the players, coaches and parents who got in touch to help complete the goals data!

    2023-24 (Youth - Under 18s) →
    - The eleventh season of the Thistle Weir Youth Academy with results, line-ups and scorers. The page includes a 'Goalscorers' tab…

    2022-23 (Youth - Under 18s) →
    - The tenth season of the Thistle Weir Youth Academy with results, some line-ups and all scorers. The page includes tabs for 'Goalscorers' and 'CAS Performance U-18s League Table'…

Partick Thistle in the Scottish Youth Cup →
    - The Scottish Youth Cup is run by the SFA and usually played by the U-18 age groups. Thistle have entered in 36 out of 40 seasons since inception in 1983-84, and the complete results history is listed here…

Partick Thistle in the SFL Youth Cup →
    - The SFL Youth Cup was ran by the Scottish Football League for a dozen or so seasons, from the early 2000s, and there were competitions for a few different age groups. As far as the top level (U-19) goes, we know of Thistle's participation in at least three different seasons, as profiled here…

    Match Lists (Youth) →
    - a brand new sub-menu page focused on the 4 new youth pages at-a-glance…

I am sure Graham will be able to lead the team out at the final...........  he just won't be playing against Arbroath.

I don't know who the decision makers are but if McLennan and Doncaster have anything to do with it the final will not be moved and neither will the Arbroath game.

The authorities will turn the situation back to the club and tell them they have the option to play Grahan v Arbroath or not play him so that he can lead the team out at the final.

    Their choice!

To the game itself.  A great result and convincing performance. Both goals were very good but I thought Slater's goal was a fantastic effort.

We handled the conditions better than Hibs and when the situation allowed tried to pass the ball. No accident Skzter's goal came from a passing movement.

Congratulations to the coaching staff, the players and the fans who braved the conditions. Best of luck for the Final.

I would regard Graham’s situation as relatively minor in the overall scheme of things. He can miss the Arbroath game. We have a squad and are well used to covering absences for all sorts of reasons.

What is far more serious is leaving Thistle fans with the impossible choice as to which team to support on the day.

The media seem to be focusing on Graham and ignoring the wider issue for the supporters. This will also affect attendance at both games.

Statistically, you are correct Jagfox. Since joining the SFL in 1893/94 Thistle have beaten teams in a (then) higher division just 7 times.

     ·        1899/00 St Bernard’s (Div 1). Thistle in Div 2.

    ·        1982/83 Kilmarnock, eventually! (Prem Div). Thistle in 1st Division.

    ·        1988/89 St Mirren after a replay (Prem Div). Thistle in 1st Division.

    ·        1999/00 Livingston (Div 1). Thistle in 2nd Division.

    ·        2000/01 Dundee after a replay (Prem Div). Thistle in 1st Division.

    ·        2005/06 Inverness CT after a replay, ET and penalties (Prem Div). Thistle in 2nd Division.

    ·        2023/24 Ross County (premiership). Thistle in Championship.

Remember of course that between 1902/03 and 1969/70 Thistle spent 61 consecutive seasons in the top flight so beating a team in a higher league was impossible. Keep a look out for more on this in the Stats Watch in The Thistle Archive later today.

So we have never done it twice in one season. An opportunity to make history!

  12. Very convincing win today. Well on top even when it was 11 v 11, and managed the game effectively in horrendous conditions. The second goal was a spectacular long range shot.

Thistle both hungrier and more skillful. Hibs seemed strangely lethargic. It may be that the early bookings and eventual red card made them nervous about making strong challenges.

The victory is even more commendable when you remember that it is a part-time team coming up against a hybrid full-time/part-time team who are able to train together far more often.

As regards the final, the position of Brian Graham as coach of one team and captain of the other is an unfortunate clash. However, the far more fundamental aspect of having the men's team and the women's team playing at the same time is the splitting of the potential Thistle support, which will be vital for both games.

Moving one of the games to the Sunday seems to be the sensible option, but when did common sense have anything to do with such decisions?

The pyrotechnics at the start of the game will not have helped our cause either. Not sure what sort of "comprehension bypass" I am suffering from, but I cannot understand why anyone would bring one (or more) of such things into a football match.

How well did Stevie Lawless do for the 2nd goal? 😄

Yes that was brilliant. Tied the defender in knots, fell over himself, then while on the floor stuck out a leg to prod a perfect pass to Kerr McInroy.

  15. Just about to go and watch Sportscene (sadly without Pringles), but before doing so wanted to underline how well Scott Robinson played today. A real livewire Number 10 constantly on the move, stretching the defence, playing in others with neat passes, great dummy after near post run for Brian Graham's goal, and of course on the spot himself to score on the stroke of halftime.

Excellent ball-winning and retention, and won a surprising number of headers will well-timed leaps. If he can remain injury free and keep playing like that until the end of the season, that will be a massive plus.

    Will it be on?

On balance it looks like "Yes", as weather appears slightly better for tomorrow. I really hope that whatever is decided, it is decided quickly today or at crack of dawn tomorrow to save unnecessary and uncertain travelling.

Very rare for any manager to drop the captain if fit and available. Not unknown, but rare

I would see it not as a dropping, but as a change of role for this specific game. A fully energised Brian Graham at the business end of the game would be a tremendous asset. Whether we were trying to equalise or to defend a lead his role and inspiration could be vital. If he has started the game he will be flagging by that time. Bring him on at halftime and he might still have to play his usual 75 minutes and he would be around for the penalties (where he seems to have re-discovered the scoring art) as well.

I think I have convinced myself, but like you, I sense that Dools will conclude otherwise!
