Always good to see you again, was hoping mine had turned up at my Dads prior to me setting back to the frozen north yesterday, but alas it’ll need to collect them when back for Arbroath game

At least it gives you a valid excuse to come back for the Arbroath game.

Got a couple of calendars signed before the Junior Jags party and was able to thank James Lyon for allowing me to use his squad number 27 to win the forum sponsorship draw for Stevie Lawless’ match worn shirt!

I think a draw at Dunfermline would even be a good result.  If they win their game in hand they are only one point behind us

We already have a healthy 8 point clearance above Airdrie in 5th. The most likely challenge to a play off place may be from Inverness who seem to have built up some momentum.

Back to the game in Kirkcaldy, having watched replay no idea why referee gave the free kick which led to the last goal. I have a huge dislike for players of any team slowing down their opponents taking a free kick. However, if you are going to try and do it, you have to succeed. Rather than a halfhearted attempted flick at the ball, Neilson had to drop off rapidly and immediately. Credit to Raith for taking advantage so smartly.

I spent much of the first half encouraging Sneddon to speed up his distribution. Immediately the second half began his unnecessarily hurried stab at the ball led to the concession of the second goal. Had he been given instructions at halftime to move a little faster, but found that difficult to implement?

  3. Terrible start to second half. Came back into it through the fortunate own goal and then played really well from being 2-1 down to 3-2 up. Fitzy began running at the defence and they had no answer to him. Real spirit and drive, but then when we had the initiative we unaccountably sat back and invited Raith to take over the game, which they happily did to good effect.

Tremendous away support tonight which really lifted the team back into the game.

The main positive to take is that the team did not give up at 2-0 down and playing poorly, but somehow clawed their way back. The third goal was excellent.

Diack looked much more of a threat than Adeloye.

  4. Strange mixture from Sneddon. Goal seemed to bounce over him, but he has made some very smart saves.

We have not worked out how to play out from the back. Desperately slow three passes followed by aimless punt.

I have praised Aero a lot recently but he is far off it tonight. Fitzy also a shadow of his normal self, particularly badly affected by the pitch. Hopefully he can find a way of improving in the second half.

Apart from the first minute, we've created the sum total of the square root of bugger all.

On another subject, very surprised to see Jamie Sneddon being allowed to wear that keepers' top given the very obvious clash with our main strip tonight.

I thought the same about Jamie’s top.

  6. Not blaming the pitch but our players seem to be having more difficulty getting to grips with it than usual. Lots of heavy first touches and misjudging height of bounce. Seems to be a very slidey surface and hitting a pass hard enough but not too hard appears to be beyond us.

Is this a different sort of Astro from what we normally train on?

If we were just doing £5 per post on this topic we would be putting a bid in for Mbappe!

Anyway, nothing fancy from me (a former volunteer). If you are in broad agreement with the idea of a players fund and can afford a donation then here is how to do it (and "thank you"):

    https://ptfc.co.uk/fans/players-fund/

If you don't agree with it that is fine also,  I think we are still allowed to disagree these days (unless of course you think Star Wars is better than Star Trek in which case you are dead to me).

JJ will be with you in that as he is in favour of Enterprise!

8 for me.  I am old, but not that old.  From Fleck onwards.  I actually thought about debut goalscorers when Diack scored on Saturday.  The first name that came to mind was Mo Johnston as a sub against Dundee Utd. but that maybe wasn't as quick as the others.

Doffs cap. All respect to you. 8 is some achievement! 👏 🥳

5 for me too.  1st 3, Ricco, and the legendary Jonny Blom.

I wonder if Jonny Blom was our tallest ever player?

My sixth was the Sam Morrow scrambled effort, which I think was vital to securing our second tier status. Dick Campbell had just been sacked and we were seeing out the season under the temporary care of Jimmy Bone and Terry Butcher.

  10. Barney and AJ. Thank you for your contributions which I enjoyed, but I had used up my "likes" allocation!

PS My AJ like has appeared. Perhaps it was only then that I was told that I had no more!

    :detective:  QUICK-START DIACK

Brian Graham's personal best run of 38 competitive games not-out comes to an end due to suspension, leaving Stuart Bannigan and Steven Lawless as the 'last-men standing' in terms of having appeared in all 21 competitive games of 2023-24.
    ● It's a double-whammy in the H2H this afternoon as Thistle meet Airdrie for the 200th time in league action, and for the 250th time in all competitions.
    ● 18-year-old Ricco Diack marks his first competitive start with his first goal for Thistle. His 7th minute goal is the 5th quickest on record for the category! (see Graphic below).
    ● With two assists, the astounding Aidan Fitzpatrick takes his direct goal involvement tally to EIGHT in the last four games.
    ● It's 9 (NINE) consecutive wins over Airdrie at Firhill, a brand new club-record for Partick Thistle FC.

    ongoing sequences:
    ● 5 competitive away games without defeat; 2nd Sep 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 7 games; 1st Apr 2023 to 18th Jul 2023. Club-record: 11 games; 29th Sep 1962 to 14th Mar 1963.)

    ● 40 consecutive competitive appearances for Steven Lawless, 18th Feb 2023 to date. (Longest run since: Aidan Fitzpatrick - 43 games, 3rd Dec 2022 to 21st Oct 2023. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

I personally witnessed a majority (6 out of 11) of the above. Can anyone beat that?

Arriving at the game late and missing the goal does not count!

  12. This is total over-simplification and generalisation to endeavour to make a straightforward point. "Begging bowl" is a rather pejorative expression for soliciting cash from those who believe in what you are doing, but I will let it be for the moment:

    1) At one end of the spectrum are "pure" commercial trading companies. Their directors have to ensure, if need be by their own cash injections, that there is sufficient capital in place and sufficient regular commercial trading income to allow the company to continue to trade at least at break even (and hopefully rather better than that). No begging bowl allowed.

    2) At the other end of the spectrum are "pure" non-trading charities. They do not generate any commercial trading income and their continued (and hopefully enhanced) operation relies on donation income from supporters who recognise the valuable work of the charity and voluntarily choose to contribute to this. Begging bowl is the only way.

    3) Between these two "ends" there is a vast range of entities who to a greater or lesser extent share some of the characteristics of both of the above. Partick Thistle Football Club are one such entity. Appropriate, but not excessive, use of begging bowl is permissible.

  13. A few random comments:

Great to see us scoring with a header from a corner, something we have not done much since Kyle Turner’s early days with us. Brilliant delivery from Fitzy, and well done Rico for getting his head on it and directing it so well.

Excellent interview on JagZone with Ben Stanway. Love his attitude and his humour.

You can of course pick holes in some of Wasiri Williams’ play, but there is lots of good stuff in there too. It was his dominant header that set Fitzy away for the run and cross that produced the second goal. He is a real “Thistle” character and it may be that we just have to learn to live with his flawed genius!

  14. The deft touch bringing the ball down from mid-air and the way he runs so close to defenders but they never know which way he is going to go. Delightful passes and crosses, not to mention the power and accuracy of his shooting (and he can take penalties as well).

I presume that the length of contract is designed to qualify him for a testimonial year.

One of the best games of football I've seen in ages.

Worth watching the highlights for Imogen Longcake's second goal and the latest Rachel Donaldson special.

is longcake the opposite of shortbread?

Brilliant highlights and some great goals. Who is Garnacho anyway?

What a pick.  @partickthedog you were down under 27!!  So you win

    • Signed, framed match worn(where available) Stevie Lawless Home shirt presented at the end of the season.
    • Access to an exclusive player sponsor event with the opportunity to meet with the players.

    Next number please for hospitality

That was a pleasant surprise! All thanks must of course go to James Lyon! Stevie Lawless is my 2 year old grand-daughter's favourite player for Junior Jags purposes, so that will go down well.

Many thanks for organising this, LLD. You are a true Doctor of Laws.

I thought Alston had a pretty solid game on Saturday, and he looked like he could get even better.

And Stanway was very good; his best game yet, based on my live stream viewing, which is mostly restricted to matches at Firhill.

Ben Stanway has been generally good both home and away, and I remember him being particularly excellent in the away win at Morton.

Will three weeks into January be enough time for Young Derek to bed in his compliments of Uncle Roy new intake?

One of our players has to be instructed to do a Jamie Hamill and "accidentally" take out Derrick Adams.
