  1. Would imagine we'll have a good amount of trialists with us in Spain, which is a good thing in my eyes. If players are available for one I'd rather Archie got the chance to have a good look at them and how they could fit into the team and know all their strengths and weaknesses first hand.
  2. In absolute fairness, your comment was completely out of order. Noticing that and commenting on it does not make someone up their own arse.
  3. Staying up again is the target, so anything above 10th is a bonus. A cup run would be wonderful, either in the league of Scottish cup. However, I'm more concerned that we continue to play our brand of football, passing the ball, attacking with pace and showing the rest of the league that it can be done, and also continuing to give young players a chance to show what they can do. Realistically there was such a large gap between the top 6 and bottom 6 last season that I can't really see anyone from the bottom half pushing into the top but I do think it'll be closer this season.
  4. Brazil made 3 more fouls last night than the Netherlands managed in the full 120 minutes of the 2010 final, a game almost universally remembered for how dirty the Dutch tactics were. Yet they only got two yellows? One of which was a very obvious red card. FIFA are absolutely terrified that the Brazilian public will kick off in the style they did at the confederations cup and are doing everything in their power to ensure they succeed, this being the second game where the rules have been ignored to Brazils benefit. It's a joke, and if I was Colombian I would be absolutely seething at the blatant bias on display last night. It's not quite the same level as South Korea in 2002, but it's not too far behind.
  5. I take your point about his morale, but i really think it could do him good. In my opinion , he really needs to learn when to make a tackle and when to just sit off as too often he dives in when he has no chance of winning the ball and is left out of position. Game time and more experience would be the easiest way for him to learn this and maybe the first half of the season away before returning to challenge for a place in January could do him the world of good. Re. Muirhead, as stated above I think he has all the attributes to make a good holding midfielder but he needs to learn the position as he was guilty of dropping too deep when playing there last season. He's still young, as is gabby, so plenty of time for both to grow into being very useful players at this level. ETA. Cregg would be a good signing. Would think he has the ability to strenghten our squad so trial maybe to check fitness?
  6. Balatoni is good enough now for the level were at, if we had another good player beside him we could have the makings of a solid enough centre defensive partnership. Gabby could be a good player but he really needs more game time to get there, and I don't think he's good enough at this stage to justify us giving him it. A loan move to the likes of Dumbarton or Alloa whilst also continuing to train with us might be ideal for him and his development. Muirhead I'm unsure of. I really like him as a player, and think that he actually could make the transition from defender to midfielder like paul Paton did so successfully. He'd do for now as a 3rd choice centre back while also trying to teach him how to play that holding role to full effect. Don't forget also that our style of play with the full backs bombing on also leaves our centre defence exposed quite a lot, and that neither bannigan or Fraser, whom I'd expect to be our starting 2 centre mids are that brilliant defensively. While our defence is obviously weak this is not entirely down to the centre backs being "not good enough" or whatever but also stems from our tactics. Can't be too critical as it's a joy to watch, but obviously if we want to go out and play flowing attacking football, we're going to have to accept that we will be a bit shaky at the back.
  7. Just because he won a tv talent show doesn't mean that he's automatically shite. If you read anything about him, he was with Leeds and middlesborough before that happened as well, so clearly he has something about him. And just because you keep saying downward spiral doesn't make it so, yes, he stepped down in the divisions in order to get first team football under his belt, how many players have we seen do that and then go on to prove that they are good enough. I'm not saying he's good enough for chelsea, he's clearly not or he'd be nowhere near us, but writing him off on the basis that he won a talent show is moronic in the extreme.
  8. Anyone who's seriously worried that we haven't signed more than 1 player yet, a month and a half before our season actually starts, needs to have a word with themselves. The signings our rivals have made aren't worrying in the slightest given that for me personally, the only one I think would have improved our squad was Kevin Thomson and even him I'm not that bothered about. Dundee bringing in Gary Harkins, who was past it the last time he played for them, doesn't exactly strike fear into my heart that they're going to be a force, nor Kilmarnock who have replaced the man who pretty much single handedly kept them in the division last season with Lee Miller. We've only made one signing, and it was a very good signing. Yes, we need more, but we have plenty of time to do so. If a couple of weeks down the line we're in the same position, and we won't be, then there may be reason to panic. At the moment, there is nothing to be worried about
  9. I suppose it's a bit like us with England. They're not really that bothered about us as we're not really a rival to them, whereas for us they're the biggest rivalry there is and always will be. Suppose England see Germany like this, even though most Germans would regard England as absolutely irrelevant in footballing terms.
  10. Shame we won't have Taylor but once it became a case of Sheffield United selling him rather than loaning him, it was always very unlikely. Still, I'm sure Archie will have other targets lined up and I'm sure we'll have a good few trialists with us in the coming weeks.
  11. Is he the boy that won his chelsea contract on a tv competition on sky one? Or am I thinking of someone else? If so, he looked good on that, never seen anything of him since.
  12. They are a fairly ordinary team, although they have world class players in neymar and thiago silva, who I think is one of the best 2 centre backs in the world, although handicapped by playing next to a total bombscare like david Luiz and dani Alves and Marcelo can't defend either. They are handicapped heavily by having no good striking options, Fred might be poor but between him and Jo and I know who I'd pick. Assuming Colombia go through I'd expect them to beat Brazil, as this squad really is last 8 material at best. If they sent this squad to a tournament that wasn't in Brazil they'd be absolutely nowhere near the favourites.
  13. If this move to Scunthorpe does indeed turn out to be true, then it'll be disappointing but that's football. Not the first time we'll have missed out on a transfer target and it won't be the last. In any case, I'm sure Archie and the rest of the coaching staff will have other targets lined up just in case of this eventuality, some of whom we doubtless won't have heard of but may well come good. Personally, I couldn't care less who a player is or what kind of a reputation he comes with as long as he does a job for partick thistle, that's what I'm concerned with. Also not bothered when we get the signings made as long as it's before the transfer window closes. Our most important signing last season was undoubtedly higgy and he wasn't brought in till after the season had started.
  14. Agree that it'd be better with black sleeves, but still think its quite good. Does anyone know when the away kit comes out?
  15. As long as we don't repeat the jester kit and it's not quite clearly dreadful quality then I'm fine. Are both kits launched today or is it just the home kit?
  16. Any other player with Goodwillie's ability I'd take in a heartbeat but the man himself simply has too much baggage, and frankly is too much of a waster who'll likely never sort his head out, so its a no from me. I'd think that Lyle Taylor would choose us over Falkirk unless they can offer him silly money. Despite what the media seem desperate for everyone to believe, the Championship will absolutely not be a better league than the Premiership next season and hopefully he'll realise this and want to actually test himself and sign for us. Dundee appear to be making a couple of good signings as well, although not too much from Accies or any of our other rivals that I can see.
  17. It's also dated the 17th of July 2014...
  18. I personally think 1 will be plenty. Balatoni, despite a very dodgy start to his season, has come on leaps and bounds and shown that he is a good enough player for the level we're currently at. Muirhead I expected better from but he's also probably good enough to be the 3rd choice centre back. Picollo should be loaned out to the championship with an option to recall him in case of emergencies. In a real crisis, McMillan could also probably play there although this should be avoided if at all possible. I'd therefore suggest that if we can get the right player (an experienced centre half who can guide balatoni through games and help aid his development even further), then we should be fine with the options we have. Edit: more important will be finding a competent left back, as we won't get anyone of the standard that Taylor-Sinclair is but we need a similar player to him.
  19. Well, the old co were Scotland's most successful club and they're desperate to try and convince everyone that they are one and the same so makes sense. Take it with a pinch of salt anyway, everything that club does just now is a desperate effort to try to distract people from what's actually happening in ibrox.
  20. One of life's great mysteries is how both chiles and lawrenson hold down media jobs. Chiles especially has none of the relevant qualities. He isn't funny, or insightful, or particularly good at sparking debate, or even just controversial to boost ratings. Nor is he a decent looking bird. Lawrenson also appears to not even like football and shows almost no interest in the game he's actually commentating on. At least there's no Gary Mcallister who is quite simply the worst commentator on anything ever. The mans an absolute rocket.
  21. Absolutely we should give this a go at some stage next season, SOD has played further forward in the past (the 5-1 against Dunfermline he was definitely further up, with Muirhead at right back if i recall correctly), and was good at it. I would say his delivery is good, albeit erratic at times, and its a position he could become very effective in. McMillan is also a better right back IMO. We should try it out against some absolute dross in the cup or against Dundee or something.
  22. We had absolutely no chance of signing Kirk broadfoot. He's 29, and still very much capable of playing in the English championship where he'll be getting far better wages than we could ever offer. I do think he'll be back in Scottish football in a few seasons time though, maybe a return to st mirren?
  23. Dougie imrie isn't that bad a signing for them IMO. He's certainly better than Cardle, and if it wasn't for the fact that he's a total and utter wankstain I'd probably have been relatively pleased if we'd taken him.
  24. Real shame for Welsh as when fit I'd have him starting every week,
  25. I'd take Stevenson over Harkins tbh. I'd also take Hemmings if we can't get Taylor, although the fact that we didn't sign him last summer when we had the opportunity is worrying as it suggests some kind of attitude problem in him.
