I don't think we can take too much from the Cove game. I recognise that we played some good stuff and I was especially impressed with our running off the ball. However I thought this Cove team were the poorest I have seen since we first met them in League 1.

The result was certainly a confidence booster but I think Queens will ask a lot more questions of our midfield and defence. I do agree though that if we get at them from the off,  stay on the front foot and show belief that we can win the game then we have a chance.

When the Jags play well I believe we can beat any team in this league however we will have to be firing on all cylinders to win this game. Pity we won't have Milne marauding down the left.

With Milne out that should be an opportunity for the youth players to make their mark i.e Zander MacKenzie.

  2. That was utter mince. Its easy to forget sometimes that playing football is their profession. You can accept the odd poor touch or misplaced pass, but to do it consistently throughout the full game is inexcusable. Honestly, the Brownlie (an absolute bomb scare) mistake was symptomatic and summed our slackness up. He looks like he's wearing concrete slippers as does a few of his team mates. Slow and laboured is probably the best description.

Doolan stated before the game that we had been on a good run and kept a few clean sheets, we have also not scored in our last three games now. It has shades of last season as we stuttering over the line to finish fourth. You wonder what might have been this season as there havent been any outstanding opponents either.

I don't know what the optimal number of 'assistants' should be, although I favour quality over quantity with regards to backroom staff.

    Darvel appears to favour quantity

    First Team Manager: Michael Kennedy

    Assistant Manager: Craig McEwan

    Blair Munn – Head Coach

    Scott Duncan – Coach

    Gerry Hamilton – Coach

    Stephen Fleming – Coach

    Zander Cowie – Goalkeeping Coach

    Jamie McDonald – Fitness Coach

    John Walker – Team Analyst

    Andrew O’Donnell – Physio

There was me worried we couldnt afford a manager either

  4. Doolan will be getting an uplift in wages for being the interim manager

The way some on here are going on about the clubs financial problems is like we are on the brink. I dont know as to what the budgets are as do anyone on this forum of speculation. Its the club boards responsibility to figure out what funds are available. We dont need two assistants for a start

By our clubs logic Surely Billy Dodds must be next for the sack - he lost 3 nil at home to Hamilton !!

The inverness boys at my work are far from happy with Billy Dodds and wish their board had the hee haws to relieve him of his duties

A wins a win, well done to Doolan and the team for seeing it out, disappointed in the Jags support today or the lack of it, thought there would have been more.....

I think the disruption to train services to Ayr would have also been a factor.

Brilliant result yesterday. Another two difficult fixtures coming up but we'll have BBG coming back

If the board have deemed that he has failed in his role, why should they reward him with a new job ? Having him hovering around the new manager is hardly going to be helpful going forward.

Also, I am far from convinced that he is any better than average for the Championship in his recruitment. Yes he has found some really good players, but he has also brought in some total dross.

Finally, we must get rid of this jobs for the boys mentality. We need new blood and new ideas. No problem with Dools getting the interim manager role, but I would prefer an outsider to get the permanent role (but equally would not complain 1 bit id Dools has a 100% record to the end of the season !)

Cant argue with much of that to be honest.

The signing of Tiffoney probably saved him from the sack when we were in the league below.

Ian Holloway would make an interesting appointment..........

    OK Understood

But there is a Clear Distinction between Hitting Second Spot and a Playoff - and earning the Associated Revenue and the target being Outright Promotion - Managers are given targets in all walks of life Yearly ( seperate from there Contract )  Now if that hasnt been clearly set out - then a) Questions have to be asked and b) what were the current Board told ref the agreed objectives from the Previous Board -  as they have used them as a reason for dismissal c) we cannot remove the fact these are people who have been dismissed - and we treat them fairly

If they had given the Management Team - the next Three Games and we slipped out of the possibility of a Play Off - then No Probs - they Go - But if there was No Clear ( or Contradictory Objectives ) then they have been treated very harshly

Clubs Operating Budget has No bearing on the Managers Targets - thats a whole different kettle of Fish 🙂

AR Stated the Target was second place with associated Revenue ( which is linked to Player Budget ) and as he stated - this was Covered by the Rangers Revenue by not getting second

So we are left in the Position where the Current Board have dismissed the Management Team based on a set of Objectives-  given out at the Start of the Season by the previous Board ie Outright Promotion   - AR has stated a different set ( or Contradictory ) set of Objectives were given ie Second Place

As you say the Board are there to make decisions - they have made them-  but I would like to think they were made on clear concise information ? As Ive said - its people Livliehoods - its not FIFA Manager

    - so Good Luck with it - only time will judge if they are the correct ones

You forgot to mention that we are one point outside the Play Off Zone :)

  9. 40 minutes ago, Jordanhill Jag said:

They were not sacked for performances - they were sacked for not meeting the Primary Objective of Promotion as set out at the start of the Season - read the Club Statement

if this was the objective - then there was no logic given we were a point away from a Play Off Spot

However its being suggested in the Press that recent performances against Cove and Hamilton were the reason - I hope this isnt the case - because it would mean that there has been a Knee Jerk Reaction rather than a Cool Calm assessment of where we were sitting

No matter what Fans think - its the Boards job to look at things objectively

They probably have looked at it objectively and thought we wont get promoted with the status quo.

Your repeated logic that we are a point off the play-offs, with the fixtures coming up, do you think we would have still been a point off the play-offs with the status quo?

We have had some high scoring wins which has seen us go from Brazil one week to Brechin the next. Its only acceptable if your ambition is to remain in the championship.

The Statement from the Club made reference to the expectation of Promotion - with QP this was at best ambituous - realistically we were always looking at a Play Off Spot - in addition - who set the target of Promotion and who assessed that the Budget was adequate to do so - as they were set at the start of the Season ?

We are a point off a Play Off Spot with a third of the Season to go ?

We have won as many games as we have lost. To be perfectly honest, it hasnt been good enough. If you cant beat a Cove Rangers team who have been generally the whipping boys over 3 games then you deserve to walk.

At the time I said that the new board should commission two reports one in the clubs finances and the other on the state of the stadium. This would have  allowed a common understanding on where we are starting from.

For reasons that are not stated there is a lot dancing around the state of our finances and a fair degree of reading between the lines is required.

I have a feeling that the ptfc trust don’t want to tell us , perhaps to protect the old board , how bad things actually are. In that regard I suspect TJF are a tad frustrated.

so reading between the lines ….

    1. the word ‘significant’ in the TJF is in fact very ‘significant’ and is there to tell us , along with the whole statement,  that the finances are shot.

    2. If I remember around  the agm  I think 3BC said they were giving c£300k to the club…but in fact it looks like this was never given which is in fact ‘significant ‘

    3. I think we can take it that we serious cash flow issues hence the reaching out to individuals and ‘investors ‘ for help

    4. probably the rangers game has plugged that gap or the lack of £300k from 3BC

in any small business cash flow is just about the most important thing and I’m a bit concerned that the ‘count every penny going out the door’ button has not been pressed. In our situation cost cutting is the first thing you would do and we need to get in with it. On the other hand efforts to increase revenue are no doubt underway.

in this context the decision on the management team at this time is a little concerning.

On the point about receiving money from the 3BC's. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

The 3BC's was the company setup by Colin Weir with his money. Jackie Low and one other were put in charge. He passed away leaving them basically 'beneficiaries'. So if £300,000 was promised to PTFC and not given then they have trousered the dough and disappeared into the sunset. Might be wrong but it sounds about right

    Greame

You raise some interesting points - the most recent Club Statement said thus

The primary aim for Partick Thistle Football Club for season 2022/23 is to regain Premiership status. The management team were given a budget to support this objective.

Given the playing squad assembled for this season, everyone at the club was united in the belief that this was an achievable prospect.

You have questioned the accuracy of the Directors Statement in the Annual Accounts ( Fair enough ) - however the above statement released by the Club makes specific claims  regards the budget given to the Management Team - and that there was agreed objectives - however what is confusing is that our Current Board are making reference to Budgets and Agreements of the previous Board - how do they know what was agreed ? How do they know the assertions made in the statement are accurate ?  - if Im reading the Club Statement accurately - the Current Board are using the previous Boards objectives and the Management Team - have been dismissed for failing to meet them - how do we know the "management team were given a budget to support this objective"   - TJF statement has gone to great lengths regards the requirement for Due Diligence ( which has now been effectively carried out)

Was there Due Diligence regards the previous Boards "belief " that we could get promoted ?

Sitting looking at the Teams in the League - QP are now funded by Willie Haughey one of Scotlands most astute Businessmen -They are managed by Owen Coyle - who managed in the English Premier with couple of decent Seasons - and there CEO is Lianne Dempster - one of the most respected Football CEOs in Scotland

Now applying logic - the odds were stacked against us going up against QP from the outset - so a realistic objective was a Play Off Spot - ( which we are currently a point away from with a third of the Season to go )

But based on the previous Boards Target of regaining premiership status ( despite a very strong QP ) and the assertion that a Budget was made available to do this at the start of the Season  ( despite the fact TJF had to provide funds for a Players Contract extension in January ) - the management team were fired

So the Question is - exactly whose targets - objectives and budgets were the management team working to ? The Current Boards - or as the Club Statement suggest - The Previous Boards - and how do we know ( as stated by the Club ) the target of Promotion and the Budget set at the start of the Season were realistic in the face of combined strength of QP Owner - Manager & CEO

What does Queens Park have to do with Hamilton and Cove Rangers taking 10 points off us at Firhill?

  13. I cant believe we have managed to find ourselves in this position. Its poor planning/management.

Dont know how much of a difference the Dunfermline game will make. I wouldnt be surprised if we have budgeted to make the final to break even.

  14. The line that stood out to me was the development of the old South terracing. I really hope this isn't another gimmick along the lines of gnomes we had previously.

Developing the ground is down the list of priorities however, with the clamour for standing areas in recent years throughout football in this country, returning it back to open standing terracing like it was before shouldnt cost a great deal surely. Couple of bags of cement and a few safety barriers.

  15. A year ago, Akinola was a decent prospect and looked fairly solid. He never recovered from that harsh red card against Airdrie. You wonder how in that time he regressed rather than improved.

A strong central midfielder (as has been mentioned) that Queens Park have on loan needs to be our priority along with a central defender.

I hope that we dont get ourselves into the same position like we did last season with Rudden with some of our players out of contract.

Speaking of fitness… Fitzpatrick - came on with about 10 mins to go & genuinely looked like he was done 5 mins later. Like he’d just come in from running a marathon. Very odd.

I would say bring back Jackie Mac, but that would just lead to the usual jobs for the boys act. We need an off-field clear out from top to bottom.

We pumped Morton, they sorted themselves out and went on a decent run after. We get pumped and resort to playing a craig leveinesk 6-2-2 and continue to get pumped. In my job, if you seeing someone about to attempt something stupit, you intervene. Our two 'Assistants' are yes men that put cones down on a patch of grass. Not good enough. Time is up for them. Use the Aberdeen income to pay them off. We are going nowhere with these eejits in charge.

I think its unfair to compare McMillan and Brownlie's performances.

McMillan did ok given he was playing both in central defence and on the left side which is asking a lot of him but he does have a tendency to try and win balls that he shouldn't be challenging for and leave a big space in behind. At one point in the first half he was up on the left wing. A better team than Queens (who I wasn't that impressed with) or a team with a better centre forward (Ayr?) take advantage of it. Its not McMillan's fault as thats his natural instinct and if you play an overlapping wingback in the centre he will sometimes do what an overlapping wingback does.

Brownlie is being brought into a game halfway through when everyone else has their eye in and is having to play pretty much the whole second half with only 2 midfielders to protect and neither of those if really a defensive midfielder. That being said Brownlie has clearly lost a bit of pace and gets outjumped by Queens big central defender for the second goal.

Personally I think we need to move to 3-5-2 for Tuesday for a couple of reasons.

First of all if Tiffoney isn't fit we don't really have an in form replacement. Fitzpatrick and Smith have shown for different reasons that they can't play there so a front two of Lawless and Graham or Graham and Dowds may be best.

Secondly it give us the least worst option for covering our injuries at the back. It may also provide some mitigation if Docherty is still injured. Assuming Docherty is injured I would go with the following to try and win ugly.

    Mitchell

    McMillan-Akinola-Hodson-Brownlie-Milne

    Turner-Muirhead-Bannigan

    Lawless- Graham

When you see that team on paper, then I definitely overrated the depth of our squad earlier in the season.

McCall rates or rated Brownlie as one of the best defenders in the division. I would compare him to Tam O'Ware, stood by him hoping he would come good. After nearly 3 years you have to wonder when he will be moving onto a team like Forfar because we can't afford to keep wasting wages on guys like that
