  1. My Dad told me about taking his dog out for a piss in the Bathgate Hills in the forties. Hearing the sound of the bombers coming in, and seeing the sky light up over Clydebank. They should have bombed Airdrie, but it wouldn't have made much difference to the state of the place anyway. If Cumbernauld had been invented then they could have bombed that too. The Liberal Party may be in a weak place right now, but what happened to Labour? The idea was always that we would think, and you would implement. Now you have been overwhelmed by Nationalism. Jim Murphy might just bring it back, but Gordon Brown has quit while he is ahead. Writing on the wall, Independence is coming IMO.
  2. More fair points, but pretty sarcy. 'FibDems'? If we were that good at lying we'd have been in power years ago. Nat vote won't stay at 45%., but Salmond has gone there because he knows he can win. We voted it down, just (a swing of a few percentage points would of seen it different). But Independence is likely still coming and Salmond is going down to mix it up and make it happen. There is a about to be a massive constitutional bust up. Salmond still leads the SNP
  3. I tend to turn a blind eye to beards on girls so long as they pay for lunch. I think our whole backline should be bearded. It would be intimidating for opposition strikers to face a wall of long beards.
  4. I stand corrected. I make no apologies for the BNP one, but the others are schoolboy errors right enough. As I have laid out, its not a great choice. But there is nothing smart about about not voting.
  5. Tried the beard thing, but I hated it. Felt even scruffier than usual, and its disgusting when you're dinner sticks to it. Why are so many men growing beards in the days of efficent razors? Girls should ban beards IMO.
  6. These are fair points, although you leave out the things we did make work. Pensions have been better protected than they might have been and there has been movement towards taking low wage earners out of tax. I agree the Atos thing is a disgrace, and yes the Westminister party sat back and allowed a lot more than, certainly the Scottish, Lib Dem membership wanted. The Scottish Lib Dem conference voted pretty much unilaterally against the Bedroom Tax, but we got beat on that one. We want Home Rule, and have done since the turn of the last century. Not the same as Independence, but the power to be considerably more left leaning than we can be when we have to pander to Southern English constituents.
  7. I didn't say I loved Cameron! That would certainly be going too far. What were the Lib Dems supposed to do? The country needed a government as the markets would of collapsed again without the formation of a viable government. Labour had been clearly beaten so we could hardly keep Brown in power. If we had let the Tories govern on their own there would just of been another general election in the autumn of 2010, and the Tories would probably of won a majority of their own. People had to compromise because that's what happens when there is no clear result. It will probably happen again this coming May. If it's 'neo tory' to have tried to balance the country's books then so be it. I agree the coalition has done some bad things, particularly in terms of what has happened with employment and the low wage economy, but without the Lib Dems in there it would have been far harsher, and even more unequal. Not ideal, no one thinks it is.
  8. Five months today will be polling day. Amazing to think it is nearly five years since the formation of the coalition, and another coalition of some sort looks inevitable again. Salmond is going back to Westminister, and along with Farrage, there is likely to be some interesting stuff with big characters competing for power and central stage. My opinions of the leaders: Milliband - rabbit in headlights and out of his depth. Too coldly intellectual and never a leader. Seems too entitled somehow Cameron - actually think he is quite good, but his party are still a bunch of w****** Clegg - taxi for. Libs will hold on in plenty places, but overall it will be a disaster. Danny Alexander (if he holds Inverness), or Tim Farron will be leader in about six months time Salmond - may well hold a pivotal role, and the SNP have been very clever in playing the post referendum game. Will make outrageous demands, and an excuse will be found for a second referendum (groan). Farrage - tosser extraordinaire. A very nasty man whose public personna is totally false. Scary if they hold the balance of power. Coming out of the EU would be insane in my opinion. Harvie - will just do him as I can't remember the name of the Green leader UK wide. Boring, boring and wrong imo. You only need to look at the vandalism of windfarms to see what happens under the influence of the Greens. Huge areas of Scotland scenically ruined due to their nonsense. Nothing wrong with nuclear - we have it already and you can't disinvent it. Nick Griffen - Dick Monster Raving Loonies - unlikely to make much of an impact Anyway I'm voting Lib Dem for tribal reasons.
  9. That is without question the greatest post, and the greastest goal, of all time. Off to snuggle into my duvet (no girl tonight so duvet has to do}. Will dream of that free kick all night though.
  10. Even from my perch on my comfy settee, I can sea where this may be going.....
  11. A boring one from long, long ago. My pals and I decided we'd go night fishing for sea trout on the Endrick on the Friday night, and like good Scouts we put up our tents and fished it. But by about seven in the morning we were shattered and packed up, headed back to Crofthamie for the bus. And then the choice between bed and Firhill. Actually the only time I genuinely fell asleep on the terraces (now bing).
  12. Well the op was obviously successful, and I have to say Jean is a nice name.
  13. Oh come on, that was fun! I had to stay overnight afterwards. Remember that girl that came on to forum from their fans (who later turned out to be banned from their club or whatever it was). Well my brother and I were with them pretty much all the the time after the match because they were a good laugh and really nice people. Never forget their looks of disappointement when we announced we were off back to our B and B. Great trip that. Thinking of heading back up there actually as I am currently looking for a wife.
  14. Been some great one's in recent years with folk coming from all over the world for the Challenge Cup Final and so on, but when did you really have to suffer to get to the game? Reckon my best one was coming out of the Western Infirmary on the Saturday morning during one of the Lambie promotion seasons to get collected by my dad. He was there to take me back to my flat, but I made him take me to Airdrie instead for the 1-1 game in whatever season it was. I was made to go in the main stand by the stewards because I was on crutches (nothing serious, or long-term), but after a few well placed offensive remarks, I quickly got myself told to move into the away end. Then had to hobble along the touchline to our end to hoots of derision from my pals, amidst a lot of pain. Funnily enough, my dad didn't really ever go to games much then, but he does now.
  15. Wish I could remember what it was he sung. Probably some daft Sinatra thing or something. Old style forum legend Erik the Red and Yellow was on the bar that night, but don't remember much else about it (not because of being drunk or anything, just because I've never thought much of it again before reading this thread).
  16. It could be from 1690, given its obviously filmed in Govan. We in Whiteinch are permanently grateful for having the width of the Clyde between us and that shower.
  17. Are there any other Jags fans still alive who went to that event at the Arts Place in Sauchiehall Street for a meet the manager event?. Cambpell was actually very funny in that context, and burst into solo song near the end to everyone present's amazement. Really just a patter merchant IMO, but definitely put out some of the worst Thistle sides I have suffered, and made everything such hard work for everyone else. If the fans hadn't gone up to Peterhead in numbers, I hate to think what would have happened. I very much doubt he'd of got off with that without the determination of the fans that we would win. Even then, only by a penalty shoot out. I only started following after the Auld era, but Derek Johnstone, and Sandy Clark's time's were truly dire as well. I feel sorry for Dick regarding his recent illness, and hope he gets back to health. Second, or Third division will always be his level though, and must give more time for the double glazing.
  18. Why does it matter what year it is? Aye, probably its totally politally incorrect, but it made me laugh.
  19. You maybe saw this, but if not - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04nzky8/still-game-live Full DVD coming for Christmas I think. Personally, I don't think its one of the better episodes to say the least, but as a novelty it was worth seeing it all live.
  20. Yeah, and for someone who rarely goes to away games, I'll also be answering the bugle call. See you'se in Central Station some point, pished.
