  1. I dont think anybody would have expected us to be second at this point of the season,or Morton to be top.Our last 2 results have been dissapointing, although with a bit of luck we would have won on wednesday.Every team will have a bad run and at the momement it is us and Dunfermline.Imo Morton will also have a bad run at some point(if they dont they could go no and win the league by a good margin).I feel this is where our management team now prove if they are as good as a lot of fans have been saying.I have looked at the next 4 games for the top 3 and ifeel that Dunfermline have the easiest set of fixtures.Imo there are a number of twists and turns left in this league yet.I do feel a win on wednesday is vital for us,no matter how we do it.If Morton did win the league would they get promotion with Cappielow in its current state or would they need to upgrade or groundshare?

  2. If he is not leaving, the only other explanation imo is he and Jackie have had a falling out.Why else would our top scorer from last season be spending so much time on the bench? The latter stages of the Morton game we needed him on the park not on the bench.

  3. If anybody had said we would be top of the league going into the last game of 2012,i am sure we would have all taken that. The Morton game was dissapointing because it is a game we should have won.I feel this is where jackie and Sid prove they are as good as we all hope they are. They and the team have been getting praise but now is the time to show what we are made of.Lets get a victory against Airdrie and Hamilton and hopefully take it from there and we also still have 2 games to play against Morton this season, lets hope we can get revenge by taking 6pts from them on the way to us winning the league.

  4. I am also a JAGS fan of 50+ years & I have always been optimistic every pre-season.If you cannot be optimistic then what's the point

    of supporting a team.

Having seen the performances in the pre-season tournament Jackie appears to have assembled a squad who are playing to

a system where players are interchangeable & are comfortable with this.

With ref to other posts re promotion if not Thistle then anyone but the Pars.

Yorkston & Jeffries a match made in Hell.

You can support your team even if you are not optimistic.
  5. As a "glass half empty" type of person I never get carried away by the prospects of glory - I suspect the League will look something like the following by the end of the season

    Falkirk :angry2:

    Dunfermline :frantic:

    Hamilton

    Livi

    Morton

    Us :thumbdown::shok:

    Raith Rvrs

    Airdrie United

    Cowdenbeath

    Dumbarton :shok:

As a get out i suspect a division of 3 sections - Top 3; middle 4; bottom 3 - so positions therein are flexible.

I think dunfermline will win the league and Airdrie will be bottom . I also think we will finish above Morton and Raith. So i think we will be top 5.
  6. I agree that we have done well in the friendlies, although we lost both closed door games. But i do feel that a few on the forum are getting a bit carried away suggesting we will win the league.Maybe after supporting Thistle for more than 50years as i have done it is hard to get rid of the pesimist in me.I feel with 3 teams coming up from div2 we will not need to worry about relegation. But i do feel it is to early to be talking about us challenging.Lets get of to a good start and take it from there.Remember Morton last season?I feel that this season depending how the SPL clubs are getting on financially there could be a change in the leagues for 2013/14 so the higher we can finish the better.Saturday is our first competitve game and it will be a difficult one but imo it will also give us a better idea of how our season may go than any of our friendlies.

  7. I dont think that this has been mentioned anywhere else, but i do not think that any rule has been brung in if another club goes bust and becomes a newco.Surely this has to change so that this endless debate does not happen again and just in case anybody from our board is reading this i think that any newco at best should start in div3 at best. This is not the only reason but remember the double vote to kick us out the SPL..

  8. Playoffs are an absolutely key issue for me, our league is a joke without them. However, they have been a key issue for the first division for 15 years, if we're only getting them if we bend over backwards to accommodate Newco then I for one have absolutely no interest. You might be willing to sell your soul for playoffs Jim, but I have no interest in selling the soul of our club for anything. Without the integrity and independence that have made me proud to be a Thistle fan all my life, we are nothing.

Couldnt agree more. The SFL clubs must get more, imo we will never get another chance like this.Lets get back to bigger leagues and only playing each oter twice a season. We are only getting this because the SPL clubs want to say to ther fans we said no to newco. But if this goes ahead they will be back in a seasonThey dont want to lose fans why should we? Do we want to kill our club off to save newco? No way.
  9. When this lot were called Rangers they were nothing but trouble and now the newco are just the same.At best they should be starting in the 3rd.Also our media has been shown up for what they are as well, they just suck up to Celtic and newco, where was the mention of TV contracts being ripped up when the 2 of them wanted to chase the EPL £ all the media said it would be the best thing to happen now we cant survive without them and also surely they cant be called the old firm any more.Nobody that has anything to do with PTFC should forget how we were shafted with the double SPL vote, they didnt care how that effected us.

  10. Imo Scully cost us the game.First goal a terrible mistake,2nd and 3rd confusion between him and our defenders, why did he come rushing out of his goal ? which caused the 3rd.It was avery good finish by Russell but if Scully had stayed on his line i dont think he would have had a shot.Fox must come back in as i feel we need another 4pts at least to be safe.Once we get them give Scully another chance.

  11. Good performance and a good 3pts.Thought we were very good in the first half and should probably been more than 1up.Second half we werent quite as good but Erskines goal was the best i have seen us score for years.Imo if either of the goals we scored yesterday was scored by a bigger team you would have seen them countless times by now.But then the SFL doesnt have any TV coverage

  12. The way they were going on, on the radio yesterday you would think it was nothing to do with them. For years they and their fellow ugly sisters twins have said they want out of Scotland and join the EPL, now they want us all to help them.NO WAY.Remember the SPL double vote they didnt care what happened to us.Next on the hit list Celtic ,Hearts ,Hibs and then the rest.

  13. This whole season is de ja vu for me. reminds me of the Derek Whyte season. I think he's gonna get us dragged into a relegation scrap. We have been woeful this season and we have got gradually worse. he doesnt have a clue. get shot of him

I dont think we have been woefull all season. We have though been very inconscictent.Tuesday nights game summed our season up for me we showed how bad we can be,but also showed how good we can be.
  14. Are some Thistle fans being unfair on McNamara saying it is time for him to go?This is his first full season as a manager and yes he has made mistakes but at the moment we are not in the bottom 2 of the league and after seeing a number of rookie managers coming to Firhill only to be saked because we were close to the relegation area, not finishing in the bottom 2 might count as some sort of success.I know that is not an ambitious point of view. But i would expexct to see an improvement next season.Does anybody know if our manager ever gets any tips of Lambie? As i feel that our managerial team is very inexperinced and getting some advise from an old head might help.I dont remember hearing anything about McNamaras contract, anybody know how long it is? Also looking at our league, if there were play offs to go up to the SPL every team in our league would have something to play for either to go up or to escape relegation.I am sure this would mean the crowds would be higher.

  15. I know that we cannot score at the moment, but i feel that in our last 2 home games we have been a bit unlucky. We have come up against a couple of keepers who have had very good games and we also hit the post in the last minute of the Dundee game.It is alarming to hear the amount of people on this forum who say they wont be back because we are playing pish.We are no world beaters but i do not think that we are rubbish either. We are going through a rough patch in front of goal just now.But i hope come Tuesday night that all changes.People not turning up at Firhill will only do harm and the product on the park will suffer. Some might think it cant get any worse but it can.I have been a Thistle fan for over 50years and only missed 4 first team games at Firhill since 68/69 season and that was due to going to Florida a few times. So i know what i am talking about i have seen a lot worse.Ihope the fans who are feeling so down about Thistle and not turning up at Firhill change there mind and come back because Thistle need everyone of us at Firhill. If we were to fold it wouldnt be first thing on the Scottish news for a week the way it is for that Govan mob.If we dont care nobody else will.

  16. See Portsmouth are back in administration again.Imo instead of deducting points no matter who it is Rangers included, they should be automatically relegated and if it happens more than once to the same team put them down a few divisions or throw them out the leagues altogether. It is the only deterent imo.

  17. The next 2 games will imo tell us where we will be.Anything less than 4pts and we are in trouble. The teams below us have been picking up some points, but thankfully for us a lot of the games have been draws.I think there was a 3week period where there was only 4 victories out of 15 games. We were defeated twice in this period. This shows how tight this league is.Lets hope that our manager has let the players know how angry he is about the perfomance against Livie and we see proof of that on the park.Could Christie be our local hero.

  18. Our form this year so far has been poor, although i did feel with a bit of luck we could have beat Dundee in our last game at Firhill.I feel after our next 2 games both at Firhill will tell us how we are going to finish this season.A minimum of 4pts is required and if we got that or even 6pts imo we will finish either 5th or 6th.Anything less though i feel we will be in a battle to avoid a play off position,i feel that Ayr will go straight down.So lets get behind the team and hopefully cheer them on to 6pts.I know that this point has been made in other posts but i really do not see the point in getting theese loanees in from SPL clubs and either loaning our own young players out or not giving them a game at all.I really feel that the loanees we have have not added anything to our team at all and i would much prefer seeing our own young players playing.

  19. I have thought since the start of the season that Ayr would finish bottom and that the play off place would go to one of the other more established first div teams and because of this i feel we cannot afford to lose on wednsday night.Imo we need at least 4pts out of our next 2 games although 6pts would be great.
