  1. This to me is the old if you want to do it then get your finger out. No point griping on an internet message board like a bunch of old women at a bus stop. The two loads who organised the Firhill Fans Cup thingymabob did it off their own back. Don't think they are even forum regulars but they had an idea, made a plan and successfully organised it. Textbook project management. They didn't come on here and say "Will the club organise a fans football tournament at Firhill?" Thistle have a very small staff but if you want to suggest something or volunteer then contact them. Not by email but by phoning them up with a clear and concise plan with numbers and costs. If you really want to do it then you would.

  2. Outside the football I was in New York as a fresh faced 23 year old intern having blagged onto an exchange program for one year. Had a mate over, who I have managed to lose touch with in this communication age, visiting and we had been out on the ran dan the night before around the WTC and Greenwich Village area. It was a great night and there were a few of us out and I'd been seeing a girl I'd fancied for ages. Long story short I wake up in triumph with a hangover and went into work 20 minutes late to see everyone evacuating the building. As my CD Walkman was on probably with the latest Travis, Charlatans or Gorillaz album I headed up to the 23rd floor to check-in only to see in the distance the towers on fire and my mate white as a sheet who had seen the whole thing. Evacuation. A long confusing day. Lying on some grass hungover and running in terrified panic as someone had shouted bomb, subway shutdown, eating in a diner (was hungover) listening to the radio in what felt like a war report from WWII films, rumours all over the place. I managed to make it back home 8 hours later to speak to my wee mum who was very upset - although I had emailed her and my dad before I legged it out the building down 23 flights of stairs even though they let me go up on the lift/.elevator. I was still pretty hungover, shocked but also very selfishly planning on meeting up with the same girl from the previous night. She was not in the mood. A mad day and in all seriousness a rough few weeks even though myself and anyone I knew got off scot free. One week after holiday in Madrid trains were blown up there, luckily doing late shift when bombs went off in London tube, was 2 trains behind the train the Brazilian guy was shot (1 hour in a tube stuck in a tunnel makes you go slightly odd) and a couple hours after arriving at Glasgow airport that got attacked. Don't travel with me.

I did watch Thistle beat Dundee in Scottish Cup in a house in Jersey City which was quite surreal especially as even English football was not shown often in the tri-state area a mere 10 years ago.

  3. I'll take it if u dont want to go?

Still tickets on sale mate so get yourself one and go along. I still live in hope and we need as many people at Hampden to support the team to get a win. One win means we can at least delay the pain for another month. Plus the more Glaswegians there the better to balance out the pheseant feather maglashan brigade.

  4. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT IS GOING ON IN A SIMPLE YET INTELLIGENT MANNER?

I do not take much notice of the board comings and goings. I didn't understand why Jim Alexander had to leave the board and I like what David Beattie says but I am very much out the loop. There are people on here who seem to know what is going on and are very angry but they are not communicating it to the wider and larger community of Thistle fans. To repeat what others are asking

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT IS GOING ON IN A SIMPLE YET INTELLIGENT MANNER?

  5. The Scottish people are more than capable of running their own affairs. We don't "need" the Union.

It's not the people who run their own affairs though. It's the politicians. Same all the world over. If you look at Alex Salmond's political career from hard left member of 79 group to staunch nationalist to pragmatic nationalistic to caring anglophile to friend of bankers (he sucked up to RBS big time before the collapse) to friend of business - Brian Soutar, Jim McColl to confederalist he chops and changes like many, many politicians.

  6. I am not a nationalist and I don't suffer from a Scottish cringe or "we are not good enough". I just don't see the point. We all live in the same island, we are a lot more similar with others than we like to admit and the examples of places like Belgium and Slovenia is rose tinted spectacles. They have all their own problems just like we do. It's a power grab mixed with anti-English sentiment. I don't even see the point in a Scottish Parliament, ill thought out and ill planned. Westminster had Scottish only laws and the Scottish Office had great powers and it could have been tweaked to improve. It was the romanticised polics of grieviance which continues to dominate Scottish politics.

At the end of the day three things seal it for me

    1. European Union. Scotland would NOT be independent. It would be a very small nation in a large Euro bureucracy. London = Bad. Brussels = Good.

    2. Credit Crunch. "The Arc of Prosperity" collapsed. Ireland, Iceland etc basket cases. Being part of a bigger economy helped us cope with a world financial crisis.

    3. Nationalism. Don't like it. Never have, never will. People use it as a cloak to hide behind. We have 3 to 400 000 English people in Scotland. Probably the same figure of Scots in England. Why divide?

  7. This topic is going a bit "off topic" at times but basically devolution and the election of the nationalists has made it very easy to play the "them and us" card and stoke anti-English sentiment. It is very petty to allow European students to study for free but English students must pay £9000. We are supposed to live in an open and mobile society but the SNP are basically cutting off the ability for English people to come to uni in Scotland and at the same time stopping Scottish people from going to university in England. So it brings up little gripes and chips on shoulders and continues for another topic and keeps pushing the buttons and winding people up. A very simple and effective tactic of nationalist movements.

Another area we need to look at is the numbers of students we have. I studied History but will stand up and say there are far too many Arts students in fact there are far too many students. 10 hours a week at university, larger and larger class sizes, more degrees makes the qualification weaker and then students come out expecting well paid jobs but end up in call centres disaffected and depressed. The SNP wont tackle this as it's the difficult call. They just blame everything on Westminster. Responsibility for nothing but blame culture and finger pointing.

  8. Education is a devolved issue, and the Scottish electorate (rightly or wrongly) have chosen how they want higher education to be financed. If England didn't want higher 'tuition fees', they shouldn't have voted for the Conservatives - why should the Scottish Government assume the cost of educating any English student who wants to avoid tuition fees?

The demonisation of the English. It's an acceptable type of racism in effect. Europe = Good. England = Bad. Ridiculous and shows how petty and narrow minded the Nationalists really are. And to think the Education Minister was born in England. It's madness.

  9. OK folks this has been on for a while so I'm going to ask for Paul Cairney to be sponsored by us so hopefully it will get into the program for the home game this weekend. Will let you knwo how I get on.

  10. Who is going to pay for higher education?

It's ridiculouse we have 50% population going to uni. There is no need. At the same time there are so many people dropping out and wasting money and effort in the system. It is abused and not respected by the very people who should be using it.

List of players in the below thread. Those who paid PM me for your choice of player. I was going to vote for Stewart but felt sorry for Paul Cairney as he has Home, Away and Boots so my vote is for his Home top. However it is a democracy and I will bring you the results after voting.

  15. Well done the Nomads and great work from the Doo!! :thumbsup2:

That's over £1k the Jags have taken in thanks this shit forum that's allegedly full of turds.

This is my last post. I'm away down Cruise to get some new gear to look like my ultimate hero Steph McConalogue with £350 burning a hole in my pocket.

Just spoke to the club who are sending a list of players available. - I think it was Ian Maxwell but I was too embarassed/starstruck to ask. Pathetic. I am 33 years old. I think I would be intimidated if I met Southampton one game legend Ali Dia "cousin" of George Weah. Once stood behind Chic Charnley in the turnstile queue at the Jackie Husband and almost wet myself.

  16. £350!!!! Now if more people want to add that is fine and we can see what to do with the left over (maybe some boots!?!?) but a big thanks to those who have donated. Well chuffed we can sponsor s strip. I'll check in with the club and see what's left and then we will have a vote from those who have contibuted.

  17. One or two games with some promotion to make it an occassion I say why not? Although there is a fixture super computer I really do think they should make some events as special days like Glasgow playing Edinburgh over Christmas and New Year at rugby. They should cut down on travelling for midweek and say a potential Friday game by have fixtures against teams close to each other.

  18. £350!!!! Now if more people want to add that is fine and we can see what to do with the left over (maybe some boots!?!?) but a big thanks to those who have donated. Well chuffed we can sponsor s strip. I'll check in with the club and see what's left and then we will have a vote from those who have contibuted. Remember PM me for more details on giving.

  19. Magic number of £330 is within our reach. Only a few more entries needed. Please PM me for details. Come on Nomads. Think of all those god awful evil Old Firm supporters clubs over the world trying to lord it over us. Show them and Thistle there are outposts of civilisation out there.

  20. Almost at the £300 mark. The magic number is £330. If that doesn't get people moving I don't know what will. If you have tried to send some money and were unable it is because my account was restricted as paypal and myself spotted some random fraud attempts but all good now. Nothing to do with this, just one of those internet things. Anyway - it's not far to go now. Come on North America, Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Japan, Africa, England wherever you may be.

Remember PM me for paypal details.
