  1. I've been at the emergency vets with a dog that's eaten a towel (she'e in overnight , waiting on a call about an x ray, may need surgery)- why no Frans and Seabo

Do dogs need that much fibre in their diet ?

    (I'll grab my coat)

  2. Regarding Stevenson, while he clearly hasn't hit form for us yet, how many multi-million pound players do we see down south who struggle to adapt to their new team's style of play? Too many to mention. I'm prepared to give him more time, as there was clearly a desire to work for the team yesterday.

Would those who criticise Stevenson prefer that he was playing for Dundee/Kilmarnock/St.Mirren/St.Johnstone ? I certainly wouldn't. He may not have hit the heights expected, but how often has he been played in his preferred position. Is it his fault that he is being asked to be a lone front man ? I think we saw yesterday what he can do when playing just behind Dools. If we can accomodate that role then I think that he could prove all of the Naesayers wrong.

  3. Said on another thread that I would expect us to beat Hamilton every time we play them. We should win this.

Shame that we have drawn a team in our own league though, possible that we will be playing them five times now this season. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..............

could be 6 if it goes to a replay

  4. He makes money either way from this. Ashley didn't take up any shares in the share issue but bought them later so no money went to the club. This is the part that should have Rangers fans worrying as he now will just give loans on the back of getting more assets so he owns everything. If Rangers go into admin he will still have image rights to the badge, stadium/training ground leaseback. edmiston house, albion car park, 51% of all future merchandise revenue etc etc etc If this happens he alienates the fans and who would buy any merchandise etc if he allows admin to happen. He needs the fans and full stadiums to maximise his revenue but it will be interesting to see what his intentions are.

Or he could just be a closet Celtic supporter with money to burn. Now that would be funny

  5. The problem is the wage bill and length of contracts for a lot of the high earners, add to that the promotion to top teir bonuses (rumored to be millions across the back room and playing staff) and Rangers aren't viable out with Europe without merchandise.

How does he reduce the wage bill "legally" and cheap as possible whilst maintaining and increasing his assets (Stadium name, merchandise, car park, Edminston house)?

He can keep giving loans till the contracts run out, and replace with cheaper options, but that could take 18 months and tens of millions (they are losing over a million a month currently) mostly from Ashley's pocket, and slowly get it back or offer 1 more loan secured against ground and Murray Park, let the club/ company renage on the debt, call in the security then allow them to admin. He then has the stadium (for leaseback or sale) the training park, the car park, the offices, the merchandise and the copyright. He doesn't need the actual club he has all the revenue streams tied up.

But what does he do with them without the club ? He may own all the assets, but he needs the club to get maximum revenue from them.

What I'm certain of is that he has a plan. One way or the other, it will not be dull watching it play out.

  6. If his time at Newcastle is anything to go by then what we can say is that Ashley doesn't give a frig about the supporters. He has a captive customer base (it is not as if they are likely to transfer their custom to another brand) and he is certain to want to squeeze them for all he can get out of them. All he is interested in is profit. Whatever way you look at it, going into admin and therefore significant points deduction is not going to generate much profit. The obvious way to maximise profit is to get Rangers into Europe for the minimum cost and once there, seel the club on as a team pretty much guaranteed European football. It also meens that there will be a high player turn over with players bought cheep and sold on for profit,

  7. Afraid the last time we had a penalty shoot out there, put me off penalty shoot outs for life and would imagine the same goes for the 3,000 jags fans that were there that night!

And you would have missed Peterhead then !

  8. The thing that pisses me off most about this long-term postponement is that we have lost out on playing them right at the start of the new season, when, for example, we still had a fit Higgy and they had Brown out injured and their team looked extremely shaky under a new manager. Mind you, if it's postponed long enough maybe we'll have Higgy and Welsh in our starting XI!

And they might look extremely shaky under another new manager :)

  9. When will we ever play the postponed game against Celtic ? Why couldnt the fixture have been played already ? Why not just switch the venues for the opening day of the season ? Who made the decision to postpone ? why hasnt this game been played yet ? Answers anyone ?

That would have been far too sensible, but tradition has it that the Champions always kick off with a home fixture and that had to be maintained, even if it was going to be immediately postponed due to Celtic Park being used for the Commonwealth Games. Only in Scotland !

  10. Know what ..... We will get as many dodgy penalty decisions give to us as go against us. Get over it.

Refs and linesmen are, in general, honest people who do their job as best they can. The do make mistakes as we all do and I will bet that the ref made no more than any of the Thistle players on Saturday. If there were no contentious decisions, football would be a very dull game with nothing much to talk about.

  11. For the sake of clarification, my post was in support of the management, despite the issues you allude to.

My point is that Hamilton are proving (so far) this season that the 'small budget' mantra should not be taken as a given for continually ending up in a relegation fight. It's use of that budget and how astutely the resources are managed and deployed that make the difference. Granted, a team with Thistle (or Hamilton's) budget are unlikely to win the league, but it should not be taken as a given that you have to meekly accept mediocre performances or results. As I said previously, Hamilton are already well on the way to finishing top 6 this season barring a catastrophic loss of form.

I don't think it's unreasonable to aspire to Thistle finishing top 6. However, we need to improve on shut-outs and home wins. Winning successive league games would be a step in the right direction for a start. Can we agree on that at least?

As for positive results at Tannadice, the only ones that spring to mind without the history book to hand are the 1-0 win in 94-95, and the 2-2 draw a couple of years earlier when Calum Milne scored one of his two Jags' goals. We've a truly rotten record up there.

Sorry, I misunderstood your original post and agree with what you say (other than Hamilton finishing top 6 - I think that they'll be found out soon)

  12. A well argued post, but there are two things to pick up on, if I may. Hamilton's start is probably not freakish, they've merited everything they have achieved on the field of play, including taking the champions on their own patch - whatever happens from here they will likely finish top 6 with the points they have accumulated to date. Secondly, those of us who have followed the Jags cause for longer than you (in my case for 48 years), have had the benefit of tasting a little bit more 'success' in terms of top division security. I fully believe that our current management team is capable of delivering that security, but I do fear for the football club if we go back downstairs. It is crucial that we stay up and consolidate a la St Johnstone, St Mirren and Kilmarnock.

Can I ask, in those 48 years, how often have we come away with anything from Tanadice ?

It's fair game to criticise the management after the St.Mirren and Kilmarnock games (and to an extent Hamilton, but events since have proven different) but the fact is that even if we had Mourinho as manager and Simeone as his assistant, we would still get nothing from Tanadice or Pitodrie. It is a long time since any manager kept us in the top flight for 2 seasons running and Archie is well on his way to doing just that.

True, he has made some tactical errors (what manager hasn't)

True, the squad could use more depth (what squad doesn't)

Overall, he has earned the right to a bit of slack and while we are 6 points clear of relegation can't be accused of doing badly.
