Earp or Hickok?

I had no idea he was part time. That’s incredible.
Me too. In saying that I believe at one time we only had two full timers (Rough and Alan Hansen). And Dougie was around for most of AH's time with us.

Given the number of permitted subs these days we can be experimental with the starting XI and have a strong bench for insurance. I think whatever defence we put out will be reasonably experienced in any case. Maybe we'll start the way we ended up on Saturday with a back three of McBeth, Neilson & O'Reilly with the wingbacks restrained a tad.

Kinda agree with the Duke. Complicating matters perhaps but if we were to finish 2nd and then go on to win play offs then that to me appears different.

I think I mean that the probability of Kyle staying with Thistle would have been greater than the possibility of his leaving Partick Thistle. In other words there would have been a rebuttable presumption that Kyle would have stayed with Thistle.
Probably

For as long as I’ve watched football certainly. Which is since the eighties. I did wonder when VAR was being introduced whether there would be a huge number of penalties given for this, forcing defenders to change their approach. It never happened though- probably for the best really.
Agree it's always been there but think over the years it's gone up a couple of notches.

Question regarding what is a foul. It happens week after week when a defender has his arms all over the attacker, manhandling with some force, but a foul is rarely given. When did that stop being a foul.
Aye. Each week (mostly via VAR replays) we're hearing commentary along the lines of "not having much of his arms on the attacker", "hardly much of a tug on his shirt" and a kinda stock comment "if a foul was given for that then the game would be stopped every minute" often followed up with a "it is after all a contact sport".
I guess the increase in level of permitted manhandling is something that's come into effect gradually and somehow refs are of the opinion it's part and parcel of the game. I could accept that to a degree if they weren't so pernickety about other decisions. It's more the latter that stops the game flowing.

I've been going to Thistle since 1992, i cant think of a more two footed player we've had in that time than Fitzy.
Only fella I can think of in recent years is James Craigen. But he was nowhere near as skilful. I'd like to see Fitzy switch wings more often. Especially with no Lawless these days.

It is his 4th Thistle game this season having done the previous 3 against Dundee United. He is easily the best we have had this season and very consistent as to what is a foul. I think he has a real chance of going to the very top
Oh, he's a Rangers supporter?
Agree. Thought he had an excellent game.

Job done. Players get their 3rd place bonus and we can rest or not risk certain of the squad next week should we wish.
-
No surprises in starting line up. Might go to a back three later in game. Bringing Zander on for one of the full backs. The earlier we can realistically claim third place the better.

Didn't really know where to post this or even if there's any relevance to this article.
Just thought it was strange to hear an ex player big us up, particularly when the two clubs who'll be paying his wages could potentially be our rivals in coming weeks. If I was a fan of either Raith or County I'd be thinking Turner thinks more of us both as a club and as fans than my own club.

Sorry, but I could never ever support DU ! My third most-despised team.
Know how you feel and kinda agree. But the result to them is of no importance. Ironically If they win then our game with them becomes largely academic.
I don't think I have to guess who's first and second on your hate list. Our aim is to get back to the top flight and one of the unsavoury aspects in that division is wanting the ugly sisters to win certain games. Mouth and nasty taste.

Airdrie and Death Valley? (equally equally life-threatening places.....)☠️
Perhaps just a coincidence but Area 51, with its reported extra terrestrials, mutants etc, is just a mile or so to the east of Airdrie Town Centre. Or am I getting a bit muddled up here?

I could've just edited my post to "senior clubs" but I thought I'd give you some latitude.
Oh! And I haven't checked but I hope Stranraer is further south than Annan or Gretna.
-
Echo this. Wouldn't want him in the top tier* but Devine's looked decent enough down a level in the Championship. Much prefer we sign younger players but there's always need for at least one experienced defender. Could be a sort of "Andy Dowie" type signing.
*Anyway we're winning the play offs this year. Aren't we?

On a one-way ticket to Palookaville.

Fitzpatrick has scored away at both the most northerly and southerly based Scottish clubs we have faced in competitive football.
We've never played Elgin, right?

I'm for sure not looking forward to a third consecutive failure to win promotion through the play-offs. Would that be a first for any team? Would we ever be in a position to call any other team "bottlers"?
I think you'd really have to finish 2nd in consecutive seasons to be considered bottlers. Finishing 4th-4th-3rd/4th you're merely considered an "also ran".

Just brilliant ptd... look at the timing... he's on the verge...
61 - Willie Paul
59 - Brian Graham
53 - Kris Doolan
42 - Willie Freebairn
37 - Kenny Watson
32 - Maurice Johnston
31 - Mark Roberts
30 - John Proudfoot
30 - Liam Buchanan
29 - Chris Erskine
29 - Colin McGlashanJust had a quick look at Marco's return for season 2006-06. Haven't double checked but his league goals appear to have accounted for 15 points (i.e. if he hadn't scored in certain matches we'd have been 15 points worse off). Not that we'd have qualified anyway but on top of that we wouldn't have got past Stranraer in the play offs.
Further Albion Rovers would've knocked us out the Scottish Cup. Instead his 6 Cup goals in ties & replays (plus his penalty in the shoot out v ICT) were largely instrumental in us getting much needed income from the game at Tynecastle.
I've always said Mark Roberts saved us that season. Had we not gone up things looking bleak would've been an understatement. The incremental income thru the Scottish Cup, something I'd forgotten about, must have also been very significant.

Echo Woodstock's comment re not squaring the ball. Good to see a young striker being decisive. And clearly making the right decision at that.
-
That's now two shots from Stanway that have resulted in a follow up goal.
-
What's also remarkable is Big Brian playing a full 90 mins every game. I always thought he'd be an automatic starter this season but reckoned he'd be routinely subbed half way thru the 2nd half. If someone was to say he's fitter now than previous seasons with us, I wouldn't argue with that person.

An excellent victory today against what was the form team in the division. Good to see a large crowd and I even thought the ref had a good game. One for the archive guys but when did we last have a game with no bookings?
Think it was also against Airdrie. The away game very early in the season?

Looks like six changes in their starting XI from the team they put out in the previous game (0-0 v Dundee Utd).
