Malky McKay is going for the standard managerial tactic of talking the other team up. Kris Doolan on the other hand, unlike most managers, is talking up his own team.
I don't really understand why Kris Doolan's approach is so unconventional.
I think statistically you'd find that favourites win more often than not.

Always find it weird when someone misses the target (albeit narrowly) and they say, "the keeper wasnt getting there". Well yeah, the keeper didn't really have to get there, it wasn't going in.

Yep, okay. Reasonable argument.
By the way, I don't see any problem with one half played with var and the other not. Or it being used in different ties across the same competition. But the home and away argument holds some logic.
All notwithstanding thst I will always hate it as it spoils the spirit of football, and I'd much rather some dodgy decisions and still being able to celebrate goal when it hits the net.

I've never understood this argument. I've even heard it used about inconsistent use of var within the same competition (e.g. FA Cup). Can you explain the issue?
Personally I hate var and wouldn't have it anywhere. But if you accept the argument that it leads to more correct decisions (which has to be the point of it), then why would its use in one game be worse that having it in neither? It's the same for both teams.
Not having a go, just looking for an explanation that I can understand

And everyone (certainly on telly) is forgetting that we currently have three players who'd probly be starting who are out through injury. Its not like Doolan has been really lucky with injuries.
Though i do think we would still struggle without Brian Graham

Okay at risk of opening divisions... Please don't let it, I just think it's an interesting question, so here goes...
I think everyone is now in agreement that Kris Doolan is doing a great job and bringing him in as manager has worked out really well, and clearly improved the team.
I personally thought that sacking McCall was a bit harsh, but I had mixed feelings. While I think he did a decent job in stabilising and improving thistle in both his spells, I never really felt thst he was going to get us into the Premier league. Far too inconsistent.
My other thought at the time was that, while I love Kris Doolan, he was either a risky appointment given lack of experience, or the desperate move of a club that had no other options. Or both.
So my question is this... Did the club just get lucky, in that the guy we turned to has happened to be a great manager (at least so far)? Or did someone at the club see something in Kris Doolan to indicate that this would work out well, that he had real potential, and that it was therefore a smart and positive move?

Doolan speaks differently from just about any other managers I've heard. He's not afraid to say that his team are really good, to pick out the attributes of his players, to challenge other teams by saying, this is a statement and we'll get better.
He might fall on his face, but it's working so far. And to be honest, it's brave of him, but I can see how it would work well with the players.

I love Doolan's attitude, and in his own recent circumstances its even more credit to him. Its quite unusual for a manager to speak so positively, to come right out and say, yes we can do this. I think he's great to listen to and I can understand why the players are responding well.

2013 team was my favourite Thistle team in 40 years of watching. If we could do it, exactly 10 years on, with Banzo, Aero and Stevie Lawless in the side, and Dools in charge.... Right, don't get carried away Alan, long way to go.

I'm certainly not mocking Queens Park and I hope the people looking after them are a lot more responsible than those at Gretna, because they are custodians of a very special.club.

It's a shame. Queen's Park is one of the most important clubs in the history of world football. But I suppose they are where they are, most of their fans died over 80 years ago, and it's very difficult to build a new fanbase.

Missed opportunity but one tie puts us where we'd have been with a win. Still in it.
You can say what you like about managers. I probably wouldn't have sacked McCall, though i don't think he'd have taken us up. I always thought a play off was where we were heading. But regardless of that, one defeat in how many games is pretty good. I think we're in good hands.

It's a tight call and it's a tricky job when the two players are going in different directions. Give me dodgy calls and frustrating injustices over VAR any day.

You're all a bit reactionary. Two games ago Doolan was apparently a genius. Now the jury's out. Fact is he's a guy who has just taken on his very first management job, and will be learning as he goes.
To be fair it just seems to be the way with football these days. And most other things too.

It's all a bit moot but I don't think you secure a place in the play offs first and then push for the title. Surely you push for the title first and then fall back into the play offs if you don't quite make it.

If we go into the last match within three points of the top then anything can happen. That's still absolutely realistic. So I wouldn't be conceding anything at this stage.

Same approach as at Ayr. Go out to win the match. If we don't we might still get through.
2-0 is a great result on the night. No ifs or buts. But regardless of the score there was always going to be work still to do.
