Going by the photos last week, Balatoni is in amazing shape, completely ripped. Losing any more weight wouldn't be benificial for him. Losing weight wouldn't make him a faster player.

Was he on page 3? Seriously let's wait and see what life in the SPL brings. I have a good friend who is a Hearts fan and he thinks Conrad is a good first division defender but will struggle against better players in SPL. I hope he is wrong but time will tell. If I am proved wrong I will be delighted.

Was that the first time you've seen him?

He has been outstanding this season. Certainly not overweight and slow.

No it's not the first time and I did say he had a good season but he was left for dead. My opinion is he needs to lose weight and I bet after a pre season with Archie he does. Again my opinion which we are all allowed to have.

  3. I am sure that Erskine will struggle in the SPL, and will have to improve his game significantly if he wants to play regularly. Perhaps McNamara is better placed to actually bring him on. I don't know, but in all honesty I'm not devastated he's gone.

We all have an opinion but there are few players out there who can change a game with one moment of magic the way Erskine can. He is an entertainer, sadly to few about these days.

  4. I believe a director has said we will bring in 6 players for next season. I would say we need a goalkeeper, left back, centre half, defensive midfielder and 2 strikers. Anymore will depend on who leaves. Sinclair definitely needs competition for his place, Balatoni needs to lose some weight, he has had a great season but I fear he is to slow for SPL. Maybe we will need three at the back in a lot of the games.

Felt sorry for Elliot and McGuigan on Saturday, no service as the midfield was so slow, every pass went backwards or across and Sinclairs crossing needs no more comment from me.

Hearing that we had the money to match Dundee United but were not prepared to offer 3 year contracts disappoints me, if anyone was worth a 3 year deal it was Erskine, even if we came straight back down we have the parachute payment. Paton can be replaced but how do you replace a one off.

  5. How about we contact the Chinese and get a few hundred terracotta army statues, dress them up in Thistle strips and scarves with chants recorded from the North End being played. No ? Too costly. Well downsize it a bit with lots of red and yellow bedecked garden gnomes. We could each donate our own.

Brilliant idea and get it sponsored by Dobbies.

  6. We need to keep all the players we have, there is no way we can afford to sign 10 or more for next season, the money we have should be spent on quality not quantity. This squad we have get on we'll together, bring in players who can enhance what we have already got. I read a comment that we plan to bring in 6 players, sounds about right.

  7. Go back to 1970, McParland needed two experienced players to guide his very young team, Alex Rae midfielder and Hugh Stachan was signed to play alongside Jackie Campbell, I think Strachan came from Morton. Sign Hardie and the League cup is ours next season, it's in the stars.

On a more serious note wouldn't it be great to have some players re- signed before next Saturdays party.

  8. I posted the original after seeing a report on Sky that he had not given up hope of playing again. My thinking was that if he does it will not be at the highest level, combining his coaching with the SFA and the occasional game for us along with some coaching might fit in very well. Just dreaming here but what a boost it would be for the club and Scott Fox to have is arguably the best goalkeeper Scotland have had coaching him. Also any young player thinking about signing for Thistle would have Archie, Shaggy and Craig Gordon as coaches, sounds good to me.

  9. We are trying to build a good youth system, the signs are promising. The last thing we need or want is the squad to be overloaded with so called experienced SPL rejects. We need to make sure that any signings can take us to a higher level but still leave room for our own developing players to make it into the first team squad. This season there has been no opportunity for the likes of Mark McGuigan to get a chance to show what he can do, hopefully we can clinch promotion this weekend so he can get 2 games before the end of the season.

On another note the way Steven Craig has played recently has he been told there is no new contract for next season?

  10. Agents play the biggest part in players leaving. They earn money on every transfer so the pressure put on players by them is enough to swing a player who is in doubt. Everyone wants to earn a decent wage but yes I agree money should not be the only reason. I retire this year and in my working life I have made job changes solely because of money and in both cases have found out very quickly it was a mistake. I realise that younger players are swayed by pound signs and the toys that buys but my belief is that parents should try and have a bigger influence than agents do. If the young player is good enough and in the team every week then he will eventually get the right transfer. Better playing than sitting on the bench.

If a player gets a transfer to a Premier league or championship team then the riches that brings means the wait was worth it, an average wage in the premiership must be at least £20,000 a week, 1 million a year, short career yes but more than most of us have earned in a lifetime of work. Even championship and first division players in England earn very good money.

Watching Paul Cairney have a nightmare game and subbed at h/t on Saturday had me thinking that maybe all that glitters is not gold. What I mean is that he should have stayed with us another season and playing in this current team would have been a better player and been rewarded with a bigger club than Hibs.

  11. Never expected such a bad performance, only Muirhead (until his moment of madness) and Balatoni played well, Fox should have done better at the goal, fullbacks were awful, midfield non existent until Forbes came on, Craig did nothing, Lawless and Erskine worst performances of the season. Wednesday cannot come soon enough, players should be angry with themselves. Dowie and McMillan must start as well as Forbes, we need his quality on the ball.

  12. Don't like this "when we are 2/3 goals up" talk, this is thistle and we don't do easy. Let's just concentrate on winning the game. After the 7 - 0 drubbing Airdrie will come with a point to prove so we will need our strongest team. My worry about Murray is that when he plays teams will wind him up in the hope he reacts and we are down to 10 men. Strongest team please Archie, Airdrie need to be treated with proper respect, they need the points as much as we do.
