  1. Hahaha, that Nicky Henderson moment was brilliant.

I,m sure the ref blew up right after as they couldn't get the ball back quickly enough. Was that at the save the jags crisis?

Forgot about wee Parky, he had the same attitude to defenders as Somner. GIRFUY! His Battles with that massive donkey Doug Rougvie were legendary.

  2. I started supporting circa 1968 the day we beat hearts 5-1 at Firhill. My father really hated football but had a passing fancy for hearts so dragged me along, aged 13

I had only ever watched rugby before this but was totally transfixed by the magnificent Jags and such a fervent support. I have missed very few home games since that life changing day. And of course now my 2 sons join me on a Saturday.

So I was in time to see the relegation season including an 8-1 doing by st Johnstone in the LC and the sublime awakening of mcparlands team shortly after.

You would think my favourite would be from the LC winning squad but, inspired BT all the chat about Dools recently who I admire greatly, I still cannot see past Dougie Somner who was Dools and Lyle TAylor in one. He despised central defenders specially of the ugly sisters variety and got it right up them. Never took a backward step. Took no shite. Scored some cracking goals esp vs hearts at tynecastle in the last minute in some daddy cup. We were chased out of gorge that night!! And he loved PTFC! I eventually forgave him when he went to st m and unsurprised he became a legend with them too. Don't recall him doing much against us either.

We eventually got the Beast and Jim Melrose and then Chic and Lindau and shaggy. But Dougie us the man for me.

  3. 1989. 1st match. Firhill. Sunny day.

I think we were losing 1-0 when a cross came over from the right (old stand). Right on to Peter Weir's napper.

The low sun blinded him completely. Funkin beauty! The rest is history and mccoys lovely header at Love St in the replay is one of my best memories.

  4. I was very disappointed when Conrad left because he had worked hard to improve and get fitter. He kept making serious mistakes at the end of matches which was down to being unfit.

Part of our success was down to his fitness level at the season end though I recall magennis rag dolling him to a level that would not happen to Lindsay.

But he was a good servant and a good guy to have around. Pleased he is taking a large salary from Killie as we have replaced him with Lindsay who is potentially far better. Lindsay is pretty dominant in the air now and he will learn to attack the ball on the deck. I don't panic when opposition get a corner any more. It's great to bring through a young lad and see him improving every game. Well done Archie for sticking with him.

So, no bad feelings for Conrad. Unlike Paton, Fox and Higgy who have none of the qualities of Conrad. Admit to missing higgy's occasional brilliance though.

  5. Totally revolutionary idea. Play both. Or Dools with Nisbet. But Pogba should be given a chance with some support. Get rid of the non productive midfielders like Amoo and Welsh.

Get muzzy and boothy to the bye line. Play 3 at the back.

  6. He is not a 'hold it up' player like Taylor who was brilliant at this. He's not strong enough and he is far too nice. Taylor was a brooding, moody individual and put it right up central defenders.

But Dools is brilliant in the box. Not just a penalty box player like mccoist. His movement is wonderful but if we could only deliver quality balls to him he would be so much more effective. I agree that he is our best forward so we should play to his strength. Would like to see a 2nd striker but if not, midfielders should be busting a gut to get into the box. Or get wing backs to the byeline(3 at the back?).

  7. I know he messed us about and left disgracefully. But let's get over it.

Just consider what he did for Thistle.

He was a fantastic manager for us. Just ask Bannigan, O'Donnell, Erskine,Lawless, Muirhead etc etc just how he turned them into fabulous players who provided us with brilliant entertainment. It's the job of any manager and specially of PTFC to bring on young players and he was particularly adept at this.

So good luck to the guy.

  8. We played some good stuff before they scored. Amoo was much better at getting to the byeline,Osman,Lawless and Bannigan were contributing but there was no goal threat because of a lack of bodies in the box.

We're going down if we continue the same way so let's score some goals and see if we can win some games. Play 2 up front for god sake. Ok he's tried it twice and it didn't work but how many times has the sole striker worked without Lyall Taylor who probably kept us up in the last 2 years.

Change the system. Entertain. Do something! Waken up man.

The writing was on the wall when Archie was happy to lose only 2-0 to Celtic.

Give our top goalscorer a chance with some support in the box whether it's Pogba, Nisbet or Muirhead.

The substitution of lawless for Stevenson was the final straw. Might as well have gone home then. The guy has an affront taking a wage.

I appreciate that it may not be possible due to lack of money but ideally we need a clear out in January. This year's signings are all useless except Dumbuya. And Stevenson should be dismissed instantly.

  9. Pogba is right. We need more balls into the box.

If Amoo refuses to even attempt to get to the bye line get him out the team. Even the wonderful wee muzzy had amooitis on Saturday, never even once getting past their donkey no. 3

I would like to see Gary Fraser back into the team as long as he has the right attitude. And get the full backs bombing on to his passes.

The midfield were so poor at this on Saturday so Welshman needs a wee rest.

  10. What a difference from recent seasons.

As soon as the ball was in the air I thought Fox was going t flap and miss as he often did. I could not believe he got a Scotland call. A reasonable shot stopper although I recall a few going straight through him but a calamity on crosses. And the Premier bully boys soon found him out.

Cerny was sheer class on Saturday.
