Poor game overall. Both teams missed several chances. Only pluses a clean sheet and didn't lose.

We can look forward to playing Livingston next season. Afraid I can't see us getting past both Airdrie and Raith Rovers. If we, by some miracle manage to do so, the legs will go in the second game against St Johnstone!
Let's hope you are proven wrong. Karma owes us one.

It’s not a good sign when we are too confident.
Don't think anyone is too confident.....but it's an even worse sign when we are too negative. Just saying....

As confident as any thistle fan can be going into this one. Last 6 we have gathered 14 points and are unbeaten. Ayr I suspect will play for a draw. As long as we keep up our current momentum....what's not to like?

Trouble is that 3 of the games - Raith, Airdrie and United are very loseable
All games are loseable if that's where your perspective takes you. You could possibly replace loseable with winnable. Hey presto glass half full.

Airdrie once again beating Raith, why can we never do that? Time to make amends this Saturday
We are saving that for the play offs.

Just watched a re run of the Falkirk v Cove game , with 20 minutes to go Falkirk bring on 3 subs at the same time, can we do that??No ..we bring on subs and we fall apart..
I think if we were 4 1 up against cove we could do that.

Taking a lead from Rugby, and South Africa, don’t start their strongest 15, but make sure that they are on at the end when the other team tires or has weaker players on, it might be worth an experiment. Admittedly they do have more subs available in rugby and the subs are probably closer to the first choice, but it might be interesting to know what Fitz,Stevie and BBG could do coming on together after 50 or 60 minutes
An interesting slant on things. Alas without our strongest starting line up we may be 4 0 down by the time they came on....

Thought fitzy was poor today, but the problem is we are too reliant on him having a good day. When he did go off we had zero attacking threat. I was critical of the team today, but the bigger picture is we have won three in a row and shored up the defence. Just need to get our midfield sorted.

9 more games just like that and we are promoted.
True, but we got lucky today. I'm generally pretty positive about PTFC, but it really was a joyless performance, bar the defence.

Awful performance today. But we won. Looked like we had 9 men second half!
-
Clean sheet! Hopefully we continue to build towards those play off games.....more confident we will be in the mix.

Not sure if we should be concerned, a lot of very vocal Morton fans have went missing from the Pie and Bovril website since about 4-55pm last night.
As have some of the thistle fans on this forum who were full of doom n gloom pre match.....love it.

I'm going against the grain here - but that was a poor performance by a team that could and should be doing much better against such poor opposition. Winning by 1 goal in three isn't nearly good enough, and only by dint of a good save did we not come away with another draw after going 2 up.
<rant> This passing along the back line is wasting time that should be spent getting the ball up the park to where it threatens the opposition, among our most effective players, the goal scorers. Instead, our heroes seem to suffer from the delusion that they're displaying the talents of Real Madrid to the yokels and wearing them down: sorry, boys, but you aren't at that level - not even in work rate, and it shows in the huge number of goals you concede. Yet another clean sheet thrown away today.
As for throw-ins, we shouldn't complain about the opposition being smarter, but learn from them: why don't we use long throw-ins? Is none of these players capable of throwing a ball into the box or, for that matter, to one of our own players? By all appearances, that is the case. There certainly doesn't seem to be any work on throw-ins during training, let alone thought given to the most common set piece in the game.
Fitzgerald is obviously crocked but is still being played although he's slower than usual and in discomfort, if not pain. Why isn't he being given time to recover?
We and everyone else in the division knows that this team is suspect when high balls come into the box, but instead of ensuring there's an out ball (!) and breaking quickly to relieve the pressure, which they showed today they're capable of, they cling on to the ball in defence, allowing the opposition to get organised for the oh-so-predictable attack down one wing, followed by the cross in. As for free kicks into the box and corners.... Why bother? No imagination; no speed; only Robinson and Graham seem prepared to pounce on opportunities as they occur. (Since the game against ICT, Robinson has provided much-needed tenacity in the centre.)
As for bringing has-been Bannigan on... Well, he conceded a needless free kick and the team conceded a goal after that subsitution: enough said.
Our defence is still honking, despite finally arriving at a centre-back pairing that seems effective. Why? Because both full-backs think they're really wingers born in the wrong bodies (or something like that). After all this time, Milne still can't trap for toffee, and McMillan regularly gets stranded upfield while the opposition breaks - leaving Lawless to fill in at right-back. Both full-backs also need to be made aware that they should - must - be able to play with either foot, or be caught out time and time again.
</rant>
Think you are very much against the grain....we are not a top class team, which is why we are in the division we are in. If we were to eradicate all of the mistakes you outline....we would in fact be Man City. FTR despite what you said we did play some decent football at times on a pretty tricky surface. Try and enjoy the win....

Great result. Played well for about 70 mins and gave away a needless goal. All about the win today. Robinson and McBeth standouts I thought.

Missed the last few games, so looking forward to this one. Will be tight and fiery I expect, but no reason why we can't win it.

Fan base that accepts failure

We have just drawn against the team who are top of the league and drawn away to the team who had the best run of form recently. I'd say that is an improvement of sorts, but obviously we do need some wins. To say we are now looking at play offs for relegation is pessimistic in the extreme.
-
As others have said our options are sadly limited in terms of making us better defensively. Maybe worth moving Milne into midfield and ngwenga to left back. I'm also thinking mcbeth ( I've read the comments ) may be worth a go at centre back. Final point....the entire team are responsible for defensive weaknesses, from front to back. Our failure is collective, not individually. To pin the blame on one player is nonsense.

I agree - and for the Record I stated if we slip to 5th and by my measure go 6 Points below 4th - then its time for change both in Team Manager & Board Members who appointed him ( they are not exempt )
If Dundee United, Aberdeen and Ross County adopted this methodology they would have had quite a turnover in the board/chair department....as for managers, Dougie Imrie would have been toast after 10 games. Sometimes patience is a virtue.

Once again a bit of perspective for those getting over excited by our one league defeat....in 2024! We are still in third, albeit I agree we are not great defensively, offset by scoring plenty to a degree. We trounced RC a mere 3 weeks ago and ran Livingstone close. Two PL teams remember. I'm bored with the attempted comparisons between McCall and Doolan. We all know the background why certain posters bring that up ( always in periods of adversity of course.... ). No reason why we can't make the play offs, but if we don't that would be failure in my eyes. Equally if we make it that's success, this season for me.

Its for others to decide on the Thread Merits
For the Record - I have not received answers to the core Question - lots of Spin but no actual answers
It's obvious to everyone ( bar you ) that you have been given answers. It's just that you don't like the answers as your position is don't accept the tranche 2 payment ( which may or may not happen ) due to the dilution of shares. We get your argument, so there really is nothing more to debate. What I fail to understand is what sort of funding ( outwith of Gate money, hospitality, advertising) can the club/TFJ raise that would actually get your approval?

As a matter of interest, which 2 others would you have on your podium?
Probably too many to mention lol. The Bobby Houston non goal still rankles to this day......

On the podium as one of the worst decisions ever against us.....and that's saying something.

We ll see. Many thistle fans didn't predict our performance level last time round in the play offs. You may have been in that camp too. Let's cut to the chase and forget the referee conspiracy nonsense. That's too OF for my liking. Nb the ref was v good today as others have said.
