I know they're a Mickey Mouse club but Livingston have already beaten Hibs and Rangers and drawn at Tynecastle whilst gathering 14 points. If PTFC had stayed up we'd be sitting on 2 points and bleating about a 'tough start'.

Fair point. Makes our play off defeat a little easier to understand? The disaster was not avoiding it in the first place. Gary Holt could be the new Stevie Clarke....

After tonight how are you feeling about your opinion. How many games is he going to cost us before you wake up?

We even went to a back 3 to stop him from giving away a goal and still he f****d it up.

Hes made mistakes i agree. But to make him the scapegoat for our rank form is stupid.

On reflection, im still trying to work out what that formation was. 5 at the back. Fine, I get that and agree with why we did it.

But, we then set up with two defensive midfielders. Ok, really cautious! That 8 players behind the ball who aren't going to be involved in a counter attack. Unless Elliott and Penrice were the counter attackers? I saw very little evidence of that. In fact I don't think both went up the park at the same time, once, during the game to stretch Dunfermline. If Elliott went up, Keown shuffled across to right back. If Penrice went up, McGinty shuffled over to left back. Nothing new, a tactic Archie had used before, but against far better opposition.

When you play 3 at the back, more often than not, one of them is a ball player, an Irons or a Patterson. We don't have that. So to start every move, Banzo and Slater had to drop into the three to pick up the ball. Exactly the same tactic we use in a back 4. So straight away we were using a similar style, but eliminitating one forward passing option, because a jersey was being used in a back 3. Added to that, I have never seen us want to get the ball the fck away from our goals so quickly. Practically every clearance was a hoof. And the majority were miss hit. High into the sky, coming down 20 yards up the park.

To a degree it worked. In no small part due to the fact that Dunfermline are absolute manure! 11 or 12 corners we gave them. Did one find a Pars player? I don't think any did.

Where I got pissed off was In front of Banzo and Slater. We weren't playing 3 across the front. Spittal was too deep. He was the link up man. But it wasn't a 5212 because and this is where I get really ****** off. Storey provided absolutely no support for Doolan. Nothing!!! He sat on that fckin touchline playing his usual game in a 4231. My mate described him as a loan wolf. It sums Storey up perfectly. I'd love to know what he was doing out there. What was the game plan. He should have been central. Elliott and Penrice overlapping in tandem with Doolan, Spittal and Storey as their targets. It happened once in the first half. That was it. Elliott overlapped onto a through ball from Spittal. He put in a front post cross but no one attacked the space.

We sat and played the ball across a back 5 all night. Dunfermline never closed us down. So why not sacrifice a defender for Erskine at half time and play the ball across a back four, but with an extra option in front of you. We were more interested in battling our own deficiencies, then attacking Dunfermlines. Ironically, Erskine came on and was shite.

Could be a 3 at the back but would have thought he would bring in Scobbie rather than Penrice.
Archie could also bring in Andrew Mccarthy back.

Both Banzo and Slater moved the ball very well last week but Slater should have closed down Dobbie quicker for his goal last week. Also Banzo should have been closer to Harkins when he broke last week for the second goal.

Players aint perfect. Look for the greater good

Trust me if he wasn't  the only choice he wouldn't be anywhere near the 1st team. Today he is a liability anyone who disagree knows nothing about football.

I disagree. He is not a superstar but he gives his all. Its a team game and he does his best. To say he is a liability is pretty shameful in my book.

So we lost in a diddy cup? Not good. But if it means we can focus on moulding a team for the league?

Get a reality check, we played a few young guys today. It’s not the end of the world (as we know it)

Its not a diddy cup. I want our team to win it. Open your eyes to how inept we are....

Had us down for a defeat last week so not all bad but can't win them all. I should've went with my head and factored in more of the McKinnon element. Reassessing, and will be opting for more draws at home and away defeats. That looks like the best strategy.

Lets hope you lose week in week out then.

Over the moon with that result. The goal being chopped off could have work 9ne of two ways. It thankfully rallied us  and Banzo' s introduction was a masterstroke. Lifted the crowd and gave the team a second wind.

Bell: assured. Great save down to the bottom corner in the second half. Should have come for the long ball. I've forgotten about Cerny.

Elliott. Great going forward, played a superb ball down the wing in the first half and had some great crosses, especially the one for Storey at the back post. Defensively he doesn't look fully fit. Getting too close to the winger too often.

Keown: solid no frills display. Did h8s job well.

McGinty: becoming an absolute mountain with every game. Throws himself at everything. Played some beautiful balls out to the right wing.

Penrice: gave the ball away cheaply, but looked very Taylor Sinclair like, going forward when he drops the shoulder.

Ntambwi: broke up everything in the middle getting between the man and the ball. Slack passing because of fitness, once he's fit he will boss this league.

Slater: a gem of a find from Archie.

Spittal: apart from one lovely through ball in the second half, contributed nothing of note.

Erskine: everything came off for him in the first half, drove the team forward and a great finish. Tired in the second half.

Storey: infuriating and mesmerising. He will tear full backs apart with his pace in this league, but his finishing is so shit at times. Would love to see him start scoring.

Doolan: nowhere near the movement Storey offers through the middle, but such an intelligent player with a sublime first touch. First class finish for the goal that should have stood.

Banzo: Tears welled up as he came on the park. We've really misses him. Controlled the game and moved the ball with great pace. That's why Archie showed faith in him.

Melbourne: looked bloody brilliant on the right wing.

So many positives to take away from that.

It’s very difficult to quote other clubs and managers.  Circumstances at every club are different in terms of ability, personality, resources and culture.

Football has to be a results led business.  When we finished top 6 Alan Archibalds stock was high, fans were singing his name and other clubs were sniffing about.

However, the decline is now dragging on and the problem is we are now in a new season and there are very few signs of things changing.

MonehJags is right. Nothing will be decided  by this forum but I watch thistle with a bunch of long term thistle fans none of who are on wearethistle. One has not renewed his season ticket and says he will not go back till Archie goes and after Saturday another reckons it will a while before he will be back. Doesn’t matter whether I agree with them or not I am soon going to have to attend myself which may lead to me missing games.  This is how decline grows pace.

I agree with folk on here who say that Archie did well up until last season but the problem lies in the continual failure to improve basics. Even his most fervent supporters have to admit our defending is woeful and we don’t attack. It’s not entertainment.  It‘s terrible to watch.

Archie can’t keep coming out and saying ‘ the lads need to do better’ he needs to MAKE them do better.

The question here is not about being fickle or about knee jerk reactions. It’s about how long?  Some on here think he should be kept in post until we are playing the likes of Edinburgh City in the 2nd Division.   I think the decision for the board is simple.  Where do you want to be as a football club?  If you want to go back to the Premier League you need to watch how things develop in the next few games and make a big decision no later than end of September. If you want to play in the second division then sit tight and do nothing.
