Imo the main objective for this season was to get to the play - offs and take it from there. We managed that and improved on our final league placing from last season. Wasn't at the game and can only comment from what i could see on tv, but for me none of the non regular starters staked a claim to start against Airdrie.

Good post AJ- with the players lost I thought we would struggle to make playoffs possibly but we have moved up a league placing so it’s been a success so far for me.
there have been disappointments of course such as our capitulation to Livingston in the cup which lost us a wad of money- but Doolan is getting us there

Iirc Tomi wasn't very popular down at Swindon.

I wouldn't mind seeing him at Firhill next season but that depends on what league we're in. And in general this is a downside to these extended (possibly) play offs. Players at our current level tend to value security and any protracted delay is undermining. Clubs like Dunfermline, Ayr, Morton will have already joined Falkirk in preparation for next season.

Queen’s Park as well now they have secured status too and with Haughey throwing more money will no doubt have a big shopping list of players to purchase

I might be wrong but I think we have 14

    McCready

    Milne, Williams, OReilly, McBeth

    Bannigan, Stanway, McKenzie, Lyon

    Graham, Fitzpatrick, Robinson, Lawless, Diack

Need at least one keeper (Mitchell deserves a contract extension IMO) but probably two since McCready doesn’t seem to have had any game time with Spartans. A right back assuming McMillan leaves, another centre forward and cover for our wingers. Then general cover/improvement!

    Something like

    Mitchell + 1

Milne, OReilly, McBeth, Williams + 2/3

    Stanway, Bannigan + 2

Robinson, McKenzie, Lyon?,  Fitzpatrick, Lawless + 2

    Graham, Diack + 1

Doolan might offer extensions to others like Muirhead and might try to sign one of the loan players like McInroy

But think this is for a new thread!

    Agree completely about Mitchell.

By far our best goalkeeper and deserves a contract extension

I thought he was consistently awful when he was with us, and I wouldn't expect him to have improved at ICT.

To be honest I didn’t think he was great either and don’t particularly want him back.  I had just wondered if that was who DD had been referring too

If ICT went down I’d be interested in Ridgers, Devine or Samuel’s.

Controversial, but all our keepers are out of contract and previously I would have been happy to say goodbye to the lot of them, but starting to think that Mitchell might not be the worst we could do.

Is that Danny Devine who played or us in the premier league

Definitely our two were deserved. Maybe under a different formation there would've been a place for Wee Stevie.

If we could have any three from the remaining eight I'd go for Ferrie, Holt & Paton.

Agree they would be decent signings.  Queen’s Park have still not currently secured their status yet in the championship and not sure those 2 players would stay if they went down

Strictly speaking yes. And I'll be honest and say I'd forgotten about Ayr United, and their goal difference took a huge boost today.

But overturning a 14 or 15 goal difference in 6 games,  which is what Dunfermline or Ayr would have to do, is a big ask. I'm an anxious football fan, but even I'm saying that's never going to happen.

Ayr also have Dundee United next week which won’t be an easy game for them

Massive game next week. Happy enough with the point and just keeping our nose ahead of Airdtie.

Looking locked in for a playoff place but I really want 3rd, for the extra prize money more than anything.

Completely agree mate - £90,000 at stake for third and fourth a massive amount for either club.  Given we budgeted for 5th and look to have got at least a wee boost and given importance of next week hopefully as Fawlty Towers says a bigger crowd, will try and get a few neutrals along.

Given injuries a very decent result today. Nothing we can do about Airdries run of form

On that qualifying for the playoffs, after last night, just 5 points needed from the last 4 games to be guaranteed a place

Your right although we may well be pipped to third place - as Airdrie really are on an impressive run which would be a pity due to the financial diference between third and fourth.  Though as i said previously we should hopefully have a healthy gate against them a week on saturday in what will be a big game for both teams

  10. Robinson picks up McCrea FS Player of the Month prize for March | Partick Thistle FC (ptfc.co.uk)

I see Scott Robinson deservedly got player of the month for March.  Well done to Scott.

I had been critical at the time of Doolan for the signing not for his ability but due to the injury record as was concerned we were signing someone who looked like they were not going to be able to play.  However he has like many others made me eat my words and turned out to be a very key player for us who if we manag to qualify for the playoffs will certainly have played his part.

On another note just reading in there that his mother had had some health issues over the last year.  Hoping that she has made a full recovery and is feeling much better.

Keep up the great work Scott

Enjoyed the game yesterday. Didn't think the ref was too bad. At the time I didn't think it was a penalty but having seen the replay it is a foul.

The view from Dunfermline's stand is pretty decent and being near the singing section brings a few laughs. Love the new songs the young team keep coming up with. Up until the last couple of seasons our songbook hadn't change in about 40 years, now its seems there is a new song every week and it certainly adds something.

I thought we performed well and looked comfortable until the penalty. Moving McBeth to the centre of defence and putting Neilson in the midfield makes us look much harder to break down so well done to Doolan and McDonald for changing it about. Thought our starting midfield 3 were very good and that's not something that's been possible to say too often this season. Graham was outstanding and we are very lucky to have a player like him.

Moving to 3-5-2 when Lawless got injured also looked like it could work but we would need Fitzpatrick to recover his form and either Williams or O'Reilly fit so we can keep Neilson in midfield.

Only real sour note was the injury to Lawless. Its never a good sign when a wheelchair is required. Does anyone know what the latest is with him?

I think having Mitchell back as number 1 has helped give the defence a bit more confidence as well additionally

I agree and if we're still maintaining "McCall" style contracts the players will also be incentivised on a position ending scale of bonus.

A downside to the play offs is there's bound to be different agendas and attitudes towards the final few games of the season. Do we go hell for leather for that £90K risking injury and fitness levels for the play offs? Whether a club finishes 3rd or 4th makes little difference to the chances of promotion. So there has to be a school of thought to rest key players, even if in doing so you're risking a sizable sum of money.

I suppose if we beat Airdrie in a couple of weeks we will have secured third with still a good couple of weeks to go to rest players

I've never got the hype about Spittal. As mentioned above, scores some great goals but used to go missing in so many games. Not the guy you want in your team when battling is required and not much has changed given Motherwell's showing down at Cappielow.

To be fair to him, he might do well in a more attacking team like Hearts.

Good move for Penrice as well, surprised how well he's done in his career.

And yet he got player of the year while so many of our big players were a bit of a let down.  The tag that he disappeared when the going got tough is unfair- he contributed more than our most experienced players and was I understand second youngest player in the squad after Penrice

Blair Spittal joining him at Hearts too.

Well done Blair too -a very underrated player when he was with us and one of the few who shone in that relegation season from the premier league and in the Caldwell season
