I’m of the view that our team still hasn’t bedded in yet. Give it time.

Sandy you could say the same if every team in this division- we are not the only team with lots of new players.

personally while we have less of a budget our recruitment has not been good enough for a large part

I think we have a very decent squad considering the fear after Dingwall.
Happy with what’s been achieved, we have competition for places - something we lacked over recent seasons.

The jury is very much out.

Nothing to suggest Robinson is an upgrade on Turner. Nothing to suggest McDonald is an upgrade on Tiffoney.  In fact it could be argued they are downgrades.

Williams possibly better than Brownlie but still looks he has got a lot of mistakes in him.  Neilson for Holt we can wait and see I suppose. Holt was great for us, Neilson is highly regarded.

Well that's about it for cover. I know McMillan can cover centreback but at a guess if we were to add any more to the squad it'll be a left sided centreback.

Kieran should be a really good signing - plenty of championship experience and very highly rated as a young player at Aberdeen

... and some like Osman, Dumbuya and Barton, who were all excellent (at least for a while!).

Osman had played in Scottish football before he joined us so was used to the game.  He was excellent but had experience of the game up here

The Dumbaya thing is a complete myth - people completely fail for it he was terrific for 3 months- got injured and for the remaining 2 and 3 quarters years was injured.  3 months out of 3 years is not good value for money.  Worse his injury wasn’t even from football but from larking about with his mates on nights out

Barton was very good for his first year.  The second year his attitude was stinking despite picking up a good wage

I think we have to remember what kind of matket we are in.

We have less of a budget than last season and we can't just swoop and sign who we fancy. It will be a mixed season. Plenty of ups and downs and frustration. Survival in this division is paramount. Top 4 a bonus

If we have less of a budget do players from down south not cost more?  Presumably we have to help them with accommodation costs

Hopefully Doolans signings from English leagues are better than Archie’s where he was an agent’s dream taking anyone and we ended up with woeful signings with guys like McGinty, eccleston etc

    For me the positives were

the return of McMillan and the near telepathic relationship he has with Lawless. Once the former is back to full fitness it will be a big bonus and more goals as a consequence.

McInroy looks to have real potential once he gets a few games under his belt, reminds me of Albert Craig in terms of “ghosting” into the box to get on the end of passes.

Harry Milne is getting back to the form of last season, he probably won every ball in the air yesterday too. Great piece of business having him on a contract until end of next season.

Unlike some others on here I thought Graham had an excellent first half (for the reason’s already given by Partick The Dog further up). And Adeloye could be a real quality addition / alternative to Graham, something we’ve never had with Graham.

Downside was our ability to defend a two goal lead. Aside from the wrong changes by Doolan (we all make mistakes and he clearly won’t repeat that one), the new signings will take time to gel but an experienced defender would be a plus. But there’s potential here too - some Hearts fans are astounded that they have let Neilson go out on loan, and whilst Williams has made some mistakes he has shown some raw talent too. I don’t think Muirhead is necessarily the guy to help improve him, hence an experienced quality defender would be good even if it meant limited game time but lots of coaching. On that point, do we have a permanent assistant or could we appoint someone with significant defensive experience… or bring back Shaggy?!

I’m beginning to be a bit puzzled as to why we gave Williams a 2 year deal (Robinson too given his injury record).  I thought Williams had been well scouted - but he seems to be struggling a bit possibly because the Scottish game can be a different pace to that down south.  But if that’s the case why sign him for 2 years instead of a shorter time frame to see if he adjusted okay

The curate's egg today. Overall I think we are good from middle to front but need to improve middle to back. Hopefully we will get an experienced defender in who can settle things down when the opposition have a period on top, which will happen in games over the season.

Good home crowd of 3000 - lets keep that up as well.

If it’s a 37 year old defender rumoured I’d think I would pass.
I think it’s ridiculous we haven’t offered Euan East a deal- plenty of experience of championship and Scottish football and left sided CB.  At the very least we are needing competition for places

We also might be due something if Jack Hendry moves to Saudi for a reported £6.5m. Would that be a record for a former Thistle player?

By my maths, we would be due 43.33k as a Solidarity payment.

I think it was mentioned as £32.5k but as you say still a decent amount

Yeah, but some people think that in the fraction of a second Sneddon had to stop it from being a goal he should have visually scanned the field and front of him, and realizing that no Thistle players were going to bother their arses to run in and clear the rebound, he should have magically angled the rebound away not just from MacIvor but  any onrushing  opponents. But he didn't do that, so he should be dropped for Mitchell, (whose numerous whoppers shall not be brought into the discussion).

Mitchell has had numerous whoppers- really?  Far less than Sneddon that’s for sure.  Aside from Queen’s Park and Dundee I don’t recall many more.

Mitchell is the better keeper and should be the number one.

I can't believe people are actually trying to blame Sneddon for the first goal. It was a fantastic no-alternative save from a shot that was otherwise a certain goal, deflected onto the crossbar. Do people really expect the goalkeeper not only to save but to master the angle at which the deflection off the crossbar is to be directed? No mention of the lack of Jags defenders moving in at speed enough to clear up after Sneddon's save? Why not?

As I said, unbelievable scapegoating by some folk.

And for the second, Sneddon got a hand to a fast moving shot, and could have stopped it with a bit of luck. Every f*ckin goal lost by any keeper, the keeper "could've done better." No criticism of defenders letting the guy get into position to launch that direct shot in the first place? Why not?

Sneddon had an unbelievable save in the first half, and saved a penalty in the shoot out. No mention of those from those who prefer to criticize.

By the way, that Falkirk winger, Agyemune or something like that, was terrific. How do teams like Falkirk, QP, Arbroath get guys like that, and we don't?

He was at fault for both goals- blunders that he has done similar to throughout his career at Firhill and he has been here 6 years and not improved significantly at all.  there was an alternative at the first goal - palm it to the side rather than straight to the Falkirk player
Trying to defend him because he happened to save a penalty is ridiculous- if he hadn’t mucked up in the first place we may have taken all 3 points

Mitchell although prone to blunders as well is the better goalkeeper

Today was a better test that Dundee Utd ever was. McGlynn did his homework and had his team well organised and up for the challenge.

Thistle, on the other hand, started insipidly, and were lacking penetration of any sort in the first half hour. Period before half-time was better with one outstanding run from Fitzpatrick and a very good shot from Stanway.

Better pressure in the second half without anything really falling for us until the red card. After Graham's goal the sensible strategy would have been to spend a few minutes keeping possession and stretching the ten men from wing to wing to wear them down. Instead we went gung-ho and got caught out by an out ball that should never have happened.

Fair play to the team for even managing to get it to penalties thanks to Jamie Lyon's outstanding strike (he was the one total success on the day). Milne's touch was all over the map today (playing when not fully fit maybe?), Sneddon was blameless for the first goal (did well to even see the shot, let alone keep it out), but was questionable on the second. Fitzpatrick had a very decent second half, but overall the team lacked fizz today against a side who can consider themselves unlucky not to have seen out the win. Thankfully for us the point means we are still masters of our own destiny next Saturday.

Disagree on first goal- Sneddon completely to blame straight to Falkirk player who happened to be that did McGovern who will never have an easier goal to score. Sneddon should have at least hit to the side

Thought Milne was shocking today. Nothing to do with easing his way back from injury as he's been fine previous two games. Just an off day for Harry. Not sure how anyone can right off Zander as a full back. He's not turned 18 yet and he's being forced into a steep learning curve. Wasiri hopefully will improve as well. He's obviously been used to having more time on the ball. You hear that the lower leagues in England are less pacy than up here, and I assume that's also the case in Ireland. Fingers well and truly crossed re Williams.

Think Doolan is correct to alternate the keepers but I prefer Mitchell in goals these days. Sneddon's slow and deliberate distribution is so frustrating. Was dodgy at the goals as well. Mitchell isn't in any way rock solid but at least he knows how to use the ball to better effect.

If players signed from English lower leagues take so long to adjust to the Scottish game then I am unsure as to the point of signing them unless it’s someone like Abdul Osman, prince Busben or Higgsnbothan who we signed from English leagues but had played in the Scottish leagues and did well with us.

Guys like McGinty etc etc who we signed based on scout recommendations etc had no experience of the Scottish game and were appalling.  Williams was actually one of the very few to get passmarks so I’m hoping he Busch’s the previous trend

No McMillan or Robinson tomorrow. Dools says they need another couple of days, so going with the youngsters again. He hopes to have “one or two” additions before we play Spartans.

He’s been hoping to have one or two in the past few weeks- don’t know what’s going on.  Is this down to the board delaying things I wonder

I think the article is a bit disingenous - for a start the simple fact was that when the offer was made to buy the Shares from the Barnsley Owners - that was the only offer on the table - the option for the Shareholders was continue with the existing Board of JLo etc - or go down a different route

The removal of the Board by David Beattie etc was to allow proper discussions with potential New Owners in line with the Shareholders wishes - No deal had been done at that point

Fan Owenership was muted by a Group of Fans - but they had No Cash to buy out the Shareholders - if I understand correctly - approaches were made to Colin Weir - in turn 3BC Bought the Club and reinstated the previous Board that had been removed by David Beattie

Fan Ownership was not part of the 3BC Purchase - it was stated as an intent ( however so was the Training Ground) but there was nothing legally binding

Now the Journalist has argued that by not taking the Barnsley Owners Cash we dodged a Bullet and that we have Fan Ownership withing our grasp

That only happened for Two reasons

    1. We got the Rangers Money and Financial Support from our current Chairman - otherwise we had a £600K Black Hole

2.And this is key - TJF never blinked nor wavered - they pointed out the Financial Black Hole at the AGM - when the Thistle Trust took over - they agreed with TJF Numbers - then we started serious change towards Fan Ownership

Whilst the Barnsley Takeover was a Catalyst for Change - we were going No Where Fast as a Club and on the surface it had to be considered as an option - however to talk about the risks and not to give equal discussion on the actual financial risk of a £600K Black Hole is not in my opinion good Journalism ( and I do like the Journalist ) but he writes like a Fan - he has to actulally ask

What was the greatest risk to PTFC - being run by the Barnsley Owners or a £600K Financial Black Hole

As far as Im concerned its a case of "there but the grace of The Jags Foundation go us "

Without them and the Rangers Cup Draw we were in serious bother

What was the support from the current chairman?  I’m not in the know Jim so was just wondering what was meant
