Blair Spittal joining him at Hearts too.

Well done Blair too -a very underrated player when he was with us and one of the few who shone in that relegation season from the premier league and in the Caldwell season

Was saying exactly this to my pal at the game today. Maybe we should be looking at the Juniors rather than loanees from the OF? You can see how much it means for McBeth to be part of the club and I would love to see more players with that kind of desire than pampered OF cast offs.

Did you know it was actually former player Gary Fraser who recommended him to us

Need to remember that they have not won in their last 4 games (losing 3 of them) and have not scored in any of those.

If we can start well which we did against Dundee Utd and Raith and get the first goal the crowd will be right behind us which is an important factor.

Thankfully the weather is forecast to be dry and sunny until late Saturday as well.

Is one of the games your referring too the Hearts game?

One of the biggest worries to me is how poorly planned this squad looks.

We're essentially going to be doing to biggest rebuild in years with around 6 starters required as well as depth in every position. After this summer I'm not sure I trust Doolan or the club to do this properly. Of his signings how many could be called a success? I wouldn't say any, although McBeth, Robinson and O'Reilly may become so but large uncertainty on all.

Out of likes but completely agree.

banzo did more when he come on than McInroy did the whole game.

Banzo passed sideways once and then made a near suicidal pass another time.  I do agree though was not worse though than the completely ineffective McInroy.

Some fans were desperate to get Ker signed on a pre contract- I hope we don’t go near him it’s bad enough we still have for the reminder of the season

    Just back from that.

As if it wasn't before tonight- season defo over.

    Toothless display, yet again.

Season is definitely not over- are you aware we are only 8 points from second bottom? We could very much be looking at sliding into the wrong playoffs

Jesus Christ on a f-ing bendy bus. Mitchell, you feeble *******! How can one team have so many pish goalkeepers.

Wasting resources on three goalkeepers whilst Muirhead and a Hearts reject plays CB.

Not one of those 3 goalkeepers should be here next season.  I have no doubt Stewart and Mitchell will be away- but Sneddon will unjustly be awarded a new contract simply because it’s the Partick Thistle cuddly toy way.

Callum Davidson, in his post-match comments, is very critical of the referee. He is saying Graham was offside at the first goal and for the penalty his defender had his hands behind his back. In summary the Ref's decisions cost QP the game.

    Thoughts anyone.

My thoughts are Callum Davidson is he’s a wee moany so and so and trying to justify his team throwing away a 2 nil lead. Did anyone recall him arguing with the referee at the time

    Undefeated this month!

Starting the final 9 games with a 3 point advantage over the 4th place team was something I would have taken at the start of the season although it does feel like we are hanging on rather than making the other teams win just to keep up with us.

Not quite a normal quarter to come as we don't play Queens again but will play Raith twice. The good thing, assuming we can keep picking up points, is that the chasing teams will all take points off each other.

Hope those in hospitality had a good time and plenty of money was raised for the club.

We play the chasing teams as well who are capable of taking points off us too easily.

Hopefully a good sun was raised today for the club and well done to Brian Welsh and others for incredible work in organising it.

I still have my gripe that the money raised will undoubtedly be a drop in the ocean compared to the money we threw away in the capitulation against Livingston in the cup and will be a drop in the ocean compared to the money we will have thrown away if we miss out on a top 4 position.  On a plus point that however is in our own hands.

Two home games coming up with a chance of decent crowds- Raith at home and then Morton at home.  Should be bigger travelling supports than both teams brought at the previous games at Firhill even if one is a Tuesday game

If you can’t be infuriated supporting the Jags then you’re supporting the wrong team.

    I know mate

irs just so annoying throwing away that money and we did throw it away after being 2-0 down

While there will be a decent crowd at this Saturdays game and against raith and Morton I can’t help but think they would be absolutely bumper crowds and very useful for the income if it was not for our appalling results recently.  Again we have completely thrown away the chance of bumper crowds as opposed to them being fairly decent

The club truly has been masters of completely throwing away the chance of a lot of additional revenue in 2024

Just watched the goals again (I don't know why I do it to myself)

First one Fitzpatrick gets shown up by McAllister. That is quite an achievement

Second one I don't know what Bannigan is marking he just seems to be guarding the corner of the box. McInroy doesn't follow his runner.

Third one. Muirhead just lets his man run off him and Stewart has had a flap at a ball he's never getting

Fourth one. Milne plays a fairless aimless pass infield when he could have sent it down the line and asked Ayr to defend it. McBeth stands on the ball, Neilson backs off too far and then Stewart has a wee lie down.

Apart from McBeth standing on the ball I think I've seen these all before. McBeth and perhaps Neilson have an excuse as they are relatively inexperienced but all the others making mistakes are experienced pro's

Last season Fitzpatrick looked a much better player playing in a 4-4-2 with Holt playing as an orthodox leftback. I'm not convinced the combination of Milne and Fitzpatrick works.

Bannigan is after a wee purple patch reverting to his norm. Muirhead is really out of form. McInroy has ability but to me looks not fully committed.

I think we really need to solidify the team so I think we should be looking at something like this for United

    Mitchell

    McMillan-Williams-Neilson-Milne

    Lawless-McBeth-Robinson-Ngwenya

                      Graham-Fitzpatrick

When was Bannigans purple patch apart from Ross County in the cup?

I’m not sure where the several hundreds of thousands comes from. We got around £200k against Rangers because Ibrox was full and game was on TV.

Parkhead is rarely half full for cup games against lower league opposition and game may not have been selected for TV.

Yes it cost us money, but all managers make mistakes or get outfoxed by opposition managers which makes their decision the wrong one. Sacking a manager every time they made a decision would have teams changing managers fortnightly. He got it spot on against County, did we offer him a rise?

We can’t go calling for his head in one cup game as decisions cost us money, where the previous cup game his decisions made us money.

I’ve never at any point called for him to be sacked. It’s still okay to be infuriated at several of the mistakes he has made, some financially costly without calling for him to be sacked

I didn't say you did. But you did imply Doolan doesn't know what he's doing recruitment wise. And I offered a list of extenuating circumstances for why recruitment last summer was not indicative of how it might be in the future.

Assuming he stays in management I guess we'll find out one way or the other in the future.

I have a suspicion that he won't though. Which is another subject entirely...

And your extenuating circumstances are very fair points.  The only exception I felt was that too many were quick to jump on the we were weeks behind everyone else.

As you say we will see what happens

He got the job mid-season, it was his first managerial role, the club was in a mess, his dad died, he had limited backroom staff, he was wholly occupied on managing the team into and through an extended set of play-offs games, he lost the services of arguably the club's four best players. There was uncertainty over budget/funds available.

Then he had a shorter close season once he knew what division we'd be in, to sort out contracts for remaining players and recruit.

How can you possibly conclude that Doolan doesn't know what he's doing recruitment wise based on last summer? There isn't a manager out there who gets recruitment 100% right. It is unfair not to take the context in to account.

I didn’t once criticise the games he managed last season you brought that in.  He has got plenty of things right.

I criticised his signings solely last summer.  He got the majority of the signings wrong- we could have signed a decent signings like Euan East who were still available and would have been a big improvement on the likes of Muirhead, Williams etc.

Too many average players like Sneddon and Bannigan were rewarded with new deals, undeservedly in my opinion.

Plenty of others signed were not good enough.  Hopefully he has learned

The arguments about us being weeks behind everyone is overused. We only found out one week after Airdrie what division we were in and the likes of Morton etc had barely made any signings before us.

That’s maybe how business worked in the Victorian age, but not in the 21st century..
Every person at every level makes mistakes except 2 categories, liars and folk who do nothing.

If a culture is bred where a mistake gets you booted, then mistakes are hidden, decisions never taken and you can’t keep staff or attract staff. Plus company basically stops as no one will make that call due to it potentially being their last.

The encouragement to learn from mistakes and be open about them is written into the guiding policies for most businesses within their 9001/9100 systems, HR and ethical protocols.
In all the businesses I deal with I have never seen a culture of make a mistake and be fired, continually make them yes, break cardinal rules yes, but not have a culture where folk are terrified to make a decision in case it’s wrong then they are gone.

And as an ex Shop Steward the movement would never had allowed that to exist either.

Not that he should be sacked currently but To be fair the mistakes made in the livi cup game have ended up costing the club several hundred thousands of pounds.  That’s a very expensive mistake alone.  That several hundred thousand pound’s could have been used for all manner of things to help the club

Finishing 5th might actually work out better for us next season. Can begin the process of preparing for new campaign sooner, extending the right contracts early, etc. I know it sounds defeatist and would/should never be the target, but having certainty and more time can only be a good thing in terms of preparation.

A weakness of Doolan was last year’s transfer window.  Starting early is useful if you know what you are doing.

If we go about resigning Jamie Sneddon, Muirhead (though rumours he has already triggered an extension)and sign more bombscare supposedly well scouted players like Williams on undeserved 2 year deals or injury prone players, or Bannigan an undeserved contract extension then he will have learned absolutely nothing
Though it will have been an absolutely appalling run of form if we miss out on playoffs which will also bring questions

My memory is so poor that I can't work out who the secret missing player is that Dools should do well to look at?

I think he is referring to the midfielder who scored a great goal up at County in the cup but who let’s be honest has not done much else of note and who was maybe lucky to get a 2 year deal?

Apparently Mitchell’s injury was misdiagnosed by physio team, nowhere near as bad as first feared, but by the time we realised, Stewart had been signed. 🤯

Then surely Mitchell should have been playing last few games- better than Sneddon and Stewart

Our third place “cushion” has gone and with the next 4 games against DU/QP/RR/Morton expect we will be out of the top 4 by then.

With no changes at HT against a bang average Ayr, Doolan hasn’t demonstrated a plan B so presumably he’s banking everything on a fit OReilly quickly returning and shoring up that defence? He clearly doesn’t have any confidence in the likes of Williams and Ngwena to make a difference. The strikers evidently need to score three or four every week for a draw now.

“we can’t score 3 away from home and not win”… someone said after the ICT game

    Risk of free fall now

O Reilly is out for the next 6-8 weeks with injury apparently

Why not get Wasiri on? What's the point in signing players if you play the same guys from a 3-1 defeat in defence, including the keeper?

Don’t know why Wasiri was signed in the first place.  Supposedly scouted by Doolan but not good enough- although probably better than Muirhead
