This is a point for debate.

Has he really progressed since his first spell with us?

IMO, he was on his way out under McCall because he was rank rotten for most of last season. He does seem to have responded to KD's coaching though - whatever that may be - and he certainly took the opportunity when Banzo got injured during the play-offs.

He seems to have been enjoying his football since then, which is a good thing.

But the plain fact is he's still playing at the same level he was playing at 5 years ago.

Fitzpatrick was not on his way out under McCall.  McCall planned to extend Fitzpatricks, Lawless, Dochertys, Holts, Turner and Tiffoneys contracts before being told there was no money left due to the massive overspend.

Amazing how Fitzpatrick appears to be the main blame for defeats.  Yes he was poor last night but him and Lawless were still our most dangerous players.  I wasn’t impressed by any of our players last night barring Lawless

Also does anyone really think Fitzpatrick went out to deliberately put in a poor performance on his 100th appearance when he was talking about before the game how proud he was to have reached 100 appearances

As for the rank rotten last year comment- complete over reaction.  Do you think so many fans would have been delighted at him signing a new deal with us if he was?  He had decent games and some poor ones.  If it wasn’t for his goals against Arbroath that got us to a decent payday against Aberdeen in the cup and in particular his goal against Dunfermline in the Scottish cup which got us literally a club saving payday against Rangers then I hate to see how much more of a financial mess we would have been in

As everyone recognises we badly need a holding midfielder.

McDonald and McGinlay will leave, and Dowds is not being recalled.  I think Williamson has a PCA so don't think he's going anywhere.

I won't be surprised if Luke McBeth - a young cental defender - features in our transfer activity, as well as a defensive mid.

While mcginlay can be recalled by his parent club, McDonald signed a 1 year deal so is unlikely to want to move on

Think we’re looking at Spartans Rhys Armstrong , 21 yrs old , started at Celtic, attacking midfielder

Whether it’s Macbeth or Armstrong it’s a big ask (although not impossible) to make a big jump in the January window from a few divisions down to the championship

Graham was a lot worse.   Bannigan gets all the flack but when he wasn't playing over the last few games we were even worse. Raith prime example.

We were better against Raith than we were against United.  Granted we weren’t great but still better than against United

Time to cut our losses with the ever absent McDonald, and let Williamson and McGinley return to their clubs now their loans are up, and come to an agreement with Ayr on Dowds. On the assumption we are able to bring in better quality

Given Dowds recent form I fear we are making a mistake in giving him to Ayr.  More deserving of a start than Adeloye.  However I fear there’s too much water under the bridge between him or his agent and Doolan now

Two highest priorities in this transfer window:

    1) A defensive coach

    2) A CDM that is a dirty ******* (good luck finding one of those in a January window)

Can we afford a defensive coach in all seriousness? I’m not sure we have the money for that

Fitzpatrick is either a 9/10 or a 2/10, nothing in between. Compare his output to the United wingers tonight and it’s night and day. Zero effort off the ball from him.

Our new favourite tactic of shelling long diagonals doesn’t do us any favours either.

We started the game tonight with zero belief we could win and out performance matched that.

United are a poor team, it’s a poor standard of league this year so heaven knows why we sit off them so much.

Young Diack looks decent, deserves a shot.

We really need some midfielders in January.

There’s players on our team that are 2/10 almost every week.  Fitzpatrick having poor game is the very least of our worries

Certainly another winger would be good. I would hope we are looking at Logan Chalmers either on loan or on a PCA for next year.

I also wondered if we might look at getting Jay Henderson in on loan from Ross County. He's not getting a game there and he is a different type of winger to Fitzpatrick and Lawless which would increase our attacking options.

Certainly would be happy with Chalmers on a PCA- don’t think he could play for us this season as I think he has played for both Dundee United and Ayr

Why do we have to go back to former players ? There are others. Move on.

Turner and Tiffoney we don’t need. They are not positions where we have a problem. Scoring and creating goals is not our issue. We need players at the other end.

If they are very useful former players then we can certainly do with them back.  Far from certain likes of Robinson, McDonald etc are good enough or can remian injury free enough.  Keven Ker McInroy blows very hot and cold in games and i am not convinced is a step up from Turner

Who is Ashford? Am I missing a rumour somewhere? I am assuming that this is not Marcus R Ashford. He could perhaps do with a loan spell, though would not be a regular starter with Fitzy and Lawless being in good form.

    Sorry mate Lee Ashcroft 😉

Great news about  Graham's contract extension. I particularly like the references to developing his role in coaching and continuing his work with the Ladies team. These references suggest that the decision makers in the Club see a long term role for him at PTFC beyond his playing days.

On the wider front Doolan's comment abouts planning being well advanced for the January transfer window is encouraging.

I wonder if Turner and/or Tiffoney would be loan targets as neither are setting the heather on fire at Ross County and Dundee. However would we want them back?

We should be taking them back in a heartbeat if of course either is available

It's a tough one re. Turner and Tiffoney.

Whilst we shouldn't want to cut our noses off to spite our face, I wasn't happy with either of them last season towards the end.

If I recall correctly, both signed PCA's with their respective new clubs, at a time when we were clearly pushing for promotion and likely to play Ross County in Turners' case.

This lack of respect for Thistle impacted, I believe, Tiffs performances in particular and I think he struggled with the burden.

Their decisions may have cost us promotion, so I'd be in the camp of leave them where they are and look for a couple of other players.

The Dundee's are great at nicking our best players but I can't recall it working out too well for them.

Absolute nonsense re Turner he only joined Ross County after they survived in the premier league and because they were able to offer him 3 times what we could afford and a chance to play in the premier league.  Honestly I thought you better than to listen to tittle tattle

While Tiffoney did sign a PCA he gave his all throughout the playoffs.  Again Dundee could afford far higher wages than us

As for your lack of respect comments ? Have a word with yourself.

Seriously neither have had nothing but kind words about Partick Thistle and had respect for the club which you would expect from them. If as expected Ashford signs then it will be in no small part to Tiffoney who has been recommending us.

we didn’t even sit down and offer them new contracts on less money I might add until it was far far too late.  Though we know now that the club had no money

Shoukd we accuse Lawless, Erskine, Paton, Lindsay etc because they all left for more money.’

To all on the forum (including moderators)

In the words of the great John L (Lennon rather than Lambie):

And so happy Christmas..........for yellow and red ones.

A very merry Christmas and a happy New Year

Let's hope its a good one without any fear.

PS This did get me wondering, what do Thistle fans fear most in 2024?

Perhaps (in ascending order) Liquidation, administration, relegation, failing to reach the play offs, being eliminated in the play offs..........or being trapped in a lift with Derek Adams?

Same to your good self PTD and all other jags fans

Given the wee oddity’s outburst after Ross county game yesterday (which was possibly the most petulant and childish thing I’ve seen in a long time and hysterically funny!!!) is it worth trying to get turner back? He isn’t getting much of a game and given the second division in England is ‘100 times better’ surely adams will want to fill his team with players at that elite level!

Definitely worth trying to get Turner back if he is available

  15. The Calendar night and Junior Jags was a great night.  Well done to everyone at the club for their hard work in organising these events.  A lot of people, players, managers, coaches and in particular non playing staff devoted a huge amount of time and effort to it.

Was my sons first Junior Jags Christmas night and he won best a chicken dancing certificate even.  Doesnt take his dance moves from me

    Returning to the player fund.

Does anyone know how much has actually been raised for the January transfer window.

Also how can fans keep up to date with this - the accruing number and value of donations. For example, are there progress reports anywhere.

Apologies if this information is available on the club website but I don't see/can't find any such info.

Is there not a danger if they post that information then it could alert other clubs or in particular agents of football clubs to what’s going on.  Eg agent of player x demands the player gets more money for signing for Thistle because he knows fans have raised £50,000 etc

This is just playing devils advocate but I can see why they might not wish to reveal exactly how much they have raised.  Or maybe they will announce how much was raised at the end of January when the window closes even?
