  1. Got to say always enjoyed going to cappielow , yes all the previously raised bad points are true but feels like a "proper" ground , unlike the more modern ones e.g. mcdairmad , falkirk or livi , same for somerset at ayr another "proper " ground.
  2. as i origionally posted not a "bad" area over all, however this small area is very heavily populated with pakistani/muslim community , and there is tensions between them and the white youths/neds ,add to the mix eastern euro miggrants and things can be fraught, again not saying anyone more or less guilty than any one else , might just be your usual ned stuff i suppose but some of this has been widely reported elsewhere , if it was me i would look at other parts of the south side .
  3. Would not touch this part of town with a barge pole, basically as someone else said an enclave , its actually Albert drive and the area has pretty heavy racial tensions , im not apportioning blame simply stating a fact .
  4. From Maryhill origionally , lived soo'side nearly 15 years , areas fine plenty good pubs and a few duff ones, loads of buses trains shops bookies takeaways etc , however for me the biggest draw is the banning of cyclists south of eglington toll ,
  5. Peter Keenan , had a number of fights at Firhill in the '50's, attracted big crowds as well
  6. best jags boozer ive ever been in was the thistle bar in santa ponsa majorca, covered in photos and old tops etc , free pint if you showed your season ticket , ran by a maryhill guy as well
  7. is it / was it not owned by walter smith , hence the r*ng*rs leanings , also think the state on holland st is or was one of his , and the manager/chargehand is a big jagsman
  8. seems this guy is not a forum cyclejockey , mind you dont know if i would admit to the dodgy shorts/cyclehat combo he was sporting.
  9. saw a guy yesterday, who sat a couple of rows in front of us at one time, chaining up his bike on union street at about 4 o clock is he one of the forum cyclemafia ?
  10. have absolutely no idea wot arnus68 is on about! can only assume its a cyclist thing , cos no-one could confuse her actions with safe road usage,
  11. just to even the balance, last night great western rd junction of byres rd and queen margaret drive, when it was dark, traffic has all stopped at lights, bird on a bike comes up the central white line no front light no rear reflector no helmet and dressed in black cuts onto wrong side of the road and through the filter junction at the taxi rank for turning left onto GWR , seriously needs to learn some roadcraft. Its a nightmare trying to scrape bits of cyclist out the front grill of the gas guzzler.
  12. seems that its not only me , really neeeded to get that off my chest, and i didnt want to create a sack the board thread. To be honest i would sit in a sh1t stadium with an inept board if we were winning regularly , which i cant see happening soon . Like most on here when i talk about Thistle i say we and us because to me we were all in a oneness but that feeling is slowly fading and god only knows what it will take to get it back .
  13. Im 42 and have been going to firhill since before i was at school, and never in that time have i felt less connected to the club than i do now. Even though i could afford to, decided not to re-new my season ticket, would prefer to choose what games i see , as i didnt have that same saturday morning going to the match buzz i used to have, partly because the current squad doesnt really bode well for the upcoming season, some aging old pros and a few kids with potential, maybe, but is that enough, management seems all a bit to cosy for me , jobs for the boys , all on the cheap probably, and needing a shake up and change of direction. Its the board though thats finaaly done it for me , the stadium is a mess and the reasons why have been discussed at length but the blame is on them.A signing policy that leaves players unsigned till the eve of the season is unacceptable and no real transfer budget i know times are tough but these guys are where they are due to thier business no how and financial accumen surely one of them can come up with a way forward , this only my opinion and i know people will say well p1ss off then , and i really hope that its only me that has got to this point.
  14. what becomes of the broken hearted-jimmy ruffin
  15. Following on from the scrapping of the uk film council , whats your all time favourite british movie , gonna go for get carter , a classic ! greatest line " your a big man but your out of shape , with me its a full time job, now sit down and behave" quality.
  16. not in the same league but two guys in work bantering one said " i'll slap you good looking" "it'll take more than you " was the reply!
