McCarthy should be starting this weekend.
-
I dread to think who we could get to replace Archie and co.
Owen Coyle, Steve Clarke and Paul Hartley have just taken jobs at teams around our level. All three would have been decent options for us so let's no pretend there's no one out there. Even poaching someone like Hopkin from Livingston could be an option.
I don't want to see Archie go but we might have no choice. This isn't just a slight dip in form, it's an alarmingly long run where we look short of confidence and out of ideas. Right now I just can't see where a win is coming from. Killie were up for it yesterday and we weren't.
He has major problems. Pairing Edwards and Barton in the midfield is one of them. They just don't work together and he keeps persevering with them. You might say he has no choice with Bannigan, Osman and Fraser out but I disagree. McCarthy has looked promising every time I've seen him and should be getting starts now.
The wing backs are a problem, and that's something that he can't really help. Just bad luck. McGinn actually looks quite good but Nitriansky for me, from what I've seen, isn't anything special at this level.
Storey and Sammon haven't set the heather alight and it's something that I mentioned after the Hearts game - their partnerships with Doolan don't look anywhere near being formed effectively. Whereas Doolan and Erskine know each other's games inside out, the other two can't seem to find any patterns/rhythm together. This is a major problem when Erskine has matches like yesterday where he did absolutely nothing.
This is not like last season where you could see the signs that we were a decent team. We look ordinary right now and it's worrying.
Personally I'd give Archie the next two games. That way he's played every team in the league. If you've played every team in the league and you've not beat any of them, then there's no defence. It's time to go. Let's hope he can get a win or two.

When you've been to 30 games and your highlight is a 1-0 home win against Ireland, you know something is wrong.
The Ireland win was the highlight after 29 games.
Now that I'm at the 30, Slovakia takes top spot. Great game, great atmosphere (eventually).
Starting to believe we can do this...

Quick calculations show that this will be my 30th Scotland match. Not too many highlights in there, the 1-0 win vs. Ireland probably the pick of the bunch. Hopefully tonight eclipses that.

How much is a ticket? Can't find this out anywhere.

This has, I would think, been done numerous times since 2011 but I thought I'd bump this because a] I searched "all time Thistle" and this was the only result and b] I can't be arsed trawling through to find a more up-to-date version and c] would be good for all of you old-timers to re-assess your old teams.
My first match was in '97.
Tomas Cerny (2015-Present). Solid throughout his Thistle career. Consistently pulls off incredible saves.
Stephen O'Donnell (2011-2015). A really exciting player to watch during our First Division title win.
Scott Paterson (2001-2003, 2005). Classy. Great on the ball and got us to a semi-final.
Alan Archibald (1996-2003, 2007-2013). Our gaffer has seen it all with us.
Aaron Taylor-Sinclair (2011-2014). Again, great memories from that 2012/13 season of ATS bombing forward.
Chris Erskine (2009-2013, 2014, 2016-Present). Tremendous. Hopeless. Entertaining. Infuriating. All in one match.
David Rowson (2003-2004, 2007-2013). Always appreciated Rowson's role in our team. His last minute goal v Raith Rovers so soon after his father's death remains a sentimental favourite.
Stuart Bannigan (2010-Present). A brilliant engine on him, it's been great to watch him come through our youth system.
Martin Hardie (2000-2003, 2010). Needed to include my childhood favourite.
Mark Roberts (2005-2009). A bright spark through a fairly dull period as a Thistle fan. Met him a couple of years ago and he raves about his time at Thistle.
Kris Doolan (2009-Present). What needs to be said? Legend.

I've never been to Stair Park before and since the first team don't have a game that weekend, I'll be going. Looking forward to it.
-
Celtic, Aberdeen, Rangers, Hibernian, St. Johnstone.
Then it's a fight for top six between us and Hearts.
Hamilton bottom, Ross County in the play-offs, Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Dundee all bottom six but safe.
-
Wish them both well. Not convinced Sammon is the right signing but will give him my support.
-
Archie wanted one out and out striker, and a forward player who can play either up top or anywhere along the three behind. Sammon certainly isn't the latter, Storey might fit that description but I'd rather use him as a striker.
-
According to Wiki, Storey has scored a total of 21 goals in 116 senior matches for 7 clubs.
Why are some people so excited about him?
Had a good season at Inverness CT, was snapped up by Aberdeen but wasn't given a proper chance. Can score in this league and adds a bit of pace to our attack. Not saying he's a world beater but he's a good signing at this level. Wikipedia doesn't tell the whole Storey.

Stevie May signs for Aberdeen. Reckon that paves the way for St Johnstone to sign Miles Storey, especially since they allowed Kane to join Queen of the South today, but you never know...

We'll definitely be on the TV. 3 out of the 4 quarter finals are televised.
-
I know we joke, or half joke, about the Old Firm getting easy cup draws, but is it just me or do Hibs always seem to get easy draws?
Not confident at all with Rangers. We should've beat them twice last season and shat it. Just got to hope we've learnt from that.
-
Like everyone else I was ruing the absence of Dools. I didn't realise the full magnitude his absence brings. That's an alarming stat.
How many times have we actually been without Doolan since then, though? Can't imagine it'd be too many.
-
Would be nice to get a home tie in the next round but I'm sure the two cheeks are due home ties instead of us, they never seem to get any luck in the draws....
Remember the Scottish Cup quarter final draw. The 'big teams' tend to get kept apart...

Tremendous. I love Thistle.
-
Can't see us progressing without Doolan, which is crazy. One player out should never make such a massive difference. Best bet is probably trying to shitfest our way to a 0-0 with five at the back and a narrow midfield four...

Was always a tough match to start with. We should finish somewhere between 6th and 9th.
-
At 6' 3" he could also slot into centre half.
Looks like he's played centre half quite a few times before. Know nothing about him but just going on paper he looks like a fairly solid signing.
Was hoping we'd get a striker in before tomorrow but I'm sure we're hard at work on that one.
I see Archie identified RB, CB, CM and ST as his four positions to fill, if he was able to bring four players in. I don't really see the need for another CM though - with Osman, Bannigan, Barton, McCarthy, Edwards and Fraser all able to play there. We're probably more light in the attacking positions behind the striker - after Lawless, Erskine and Spittal we only seem to have Edwards, McLaughlin and Elliott at a push who would play there. So a winger/attacking midfielder and a striker to come would be what I'd prefer.
-
Does anyone know when Keown is back? I thought it was just a light injury he picked up in pre season with reading
He's back, just a question of whether he's match fit to start. Was going to come on vs Stranraer if it was comfortable, which, we know, was anything but.
-
Archie said yesterday that there was one in today and possibly other movement later in the week depending on a couple of clubs.
If that is the case, and we bring in a defender today (Turnbull?) and a striker later in the week (Storey?) then I'd be delighted. Right-back and another midfielder or attacking player can easily wait until the end of the window - but CB and ST are needed quicker. Sounds promising.
-
I'd like to see McCarthy replace the suspended Osman vs Airdrie. Every time I see him I'm impressed and although he only had about 10 minutes on Saturday, he moved the ball well and kept us attacking. Looks a real prospect.

Couldn't make it today but absolutely delighted to see the result. Delighted for all of us, but also for Archie. Hope we can use this momentum to get a win at Hamilton.
Even if the performance was not the best today, the most important thing is the result. Feels fantastic to get a last minute winner!
