He’s already played for us this season has he not?
Genuinely don’t know the rules, but don’t think it’s a stupid question. I’m sure clubs have had to extend loans (maybe us, rings a vague bell) to enable players to play in play offs.

Anyway, please don’t get your knickers in a twist, just wondering…

Not a stupid question mate. I think it comes down to as he was not recalled in January he cannot play for another club until the next transfer window.

    Knickers are unknotted haha

    Brilliant research as always.

If I am reading this right, 2 goals in the last 2 league games would make Brian our equal leading post-war league goals in a season scorer (and 3 would put him out on his own).

I presume that I would be correct in saying that any goals in the play-offs would not count towards this particular total, as this would be regarded as a separate competition (although it does have a direct bearing on league promotion/relegation). I am sure that we had this debate over Mark Roberts, when I presented my case for a Doublet for his play off feat against Stranraer, but you ruled me out of order!

I think you are spot on about it technically being a separate competition.

  3. It was great to have bit more depth on the bench yesterday and hopefully the players all stay injury free until the end of the season.

Obviously a Tomi shaped hole in the squad but Diack did pretty well again. I wonder if Doolan will give the two young forwards any minutes over the next few games?

Felt like a big win yesterday and the team grew in confidence second half after a pretty stale first half.

Hope we get another win next week and look to seal third place.

A good day to be a Jag.

I do agree with the sentence I have underlined. Nevertheless, however morally and competitively bankrupt it might be, there is at least a stateable case for "agreeing a draw" tomorrow, so that both teams are securely in the play offs, and then both teams are free to go at it if they so wish in the 2 subsequent league fixtures with a view to securing third place.

I do not personally agree with this suggestion, but I can understand why some might regard that as a reasonable course of action (or inaction!).

There will be no agreement as such but I would not be surprised if the sides are level come the end of play tomorrow.

A win bonus is a big incentive at this level and we will be in the playoffs with a win or a draw so I am confident the players and management will be doing their best to secure the 3 points.

  5. Airdrieonians have done bloody well this season. I'll get the platitudes out the way early haha.

Big game in terms of league placing and by default the order of the games in the playoffs.

We are back on a reasonable level of form, Airdrie have average away form so hillopefully we can give the ML6 Schutzstaffel a going over tomorrow.

Not heard team news yet but would be good to have Banzo, O'Reilly and Robbo back in the mix

Not sure if playing at home first or second in the playoffs will make much difference so I will just go for a morale building victory.

None of this FDR vs GDR World Cup shenanigans.

    Mon the Jags. **** Airdrie.

Does anyone here remember the last time we played at Starks Park on Grand National Day?

Scenario.-  Season 2004/05. Raith already relegated having previously accumulated only 13pts beat us 1-2, effectively relegating us as well.

One person on here (let's call the poster, me) on leaving the ground spots three unselected regular team members sauntering back into Starks having forsaken our match for the lure of Aintree. This poster who lived a relatively short journey from Kirkcaldy and still irate at the result (and no doubt the world in general) too promptly posted observations on the then current Jags forum. Didn't foresee that some web lurcher from the Daily Record would pick up on this. By Monday said paper would deem such an incident worthy of headlining import.

Looking forward to tomorrow's game in full knowledge that whatever the result I won't be on anything like the downer I was on 19 year ago.

Copying from other thread but adding a question

Wishing him all the best in his recovery. A serious loss which will hamper us in any playoffs, we don’t really have an alternative.

Are we allowed to sign a loan and play them in the playoffs? A long shot anyway since most clubs would presumably want their players to have time off ahead of pre season. And the difficulty of finding someone good enough (although Tiffoney would be ideal 😉).

Suppose it gives another player within our own squad an opportunity but imagine Doolan will need to change the shape of the team for the remainder of the season.

    No.

Lyon is certainly getting more game time but hasn't played 90 minutes yet.

Hope he can get a run of starts now he has scored for East Fife last week.

Illustrates any player can struggle for game time, even in the bottom tier.

McInroy out means at least one change to the starting 11. As Banzo is also out, the obvious (to me) choice is Stanway who has been unlucky to have less game time recently. The alternative might be Alston. However I think that Stanway. would be more involved in the game and I can see him combining well with Neilson. Keep the McBeth Muirhead centre back partnership.

I'd agree with that but got a funny feeling Doolan may start with The Ghost. At least Ben has more presence and would allow Robinson to support BBG.

There will be slim pickings on the bench though.

So we need to get at them from the outset.

A game we should be winning and I feel we can if we can create and take our chances.

I'll go for a hopeful, 2 - 0 win. BBG and Robinson with the goals.

Not quite sure if this is the best thread for this (not worth opening one specially), but as it relates to the squad, I will put it in here. A friend of mine is an East Fife supporter and when emailing me about something else he added the following:

East Fife are doing well just now, with 4 wins & 3 draws in their last 7 matches. I wanted to let you know that we saw the best of James Lyon at last week’s game against Stranraer.

He played really well & scored our opening goal in a 2-1 victory. It’s taken him a while to settle into our squad (quite understandably so) but it was very good to see his drive & confidence on the ball finally coming to the fore.

Hopefully James will kick on from here.

Good that he has found his level.

Not sure where the down votes came from.

Maybe I should expand for those who seem upset by my statement?

The lad is 21, 22 in October and is in need of games. He got a few games at the start of the season. Once Doolan had added the likes of McInroy and Alston and bedded in he was surplus to requirements at that point.

He needs first team football and has had to go down the leagues to find first team football and he has found that under Campbell at L2 East Fife which is great for Lyon and he is getting more regular football which is the purpose of the loan from a Thistle point of view.

He seems to be a likeable lad and has the benefit of continued first team training with Thistle when not at East Fife's training nights and gamedays.

So good on him finding his level as sitting on the bench for us is no use for either James or the club.

The hypothetical question is whether L1 or L2 or at least part-time football will be his future ceiling going forward?

He has had a fleeting glimpses with Thistle to suggest he is a decent player. He obviously lacks in physicality but as Lawless shows skill and determination can get you up the leagues. Stevie was on countless loans before Thistle gave him the chance at a full-time level playing  first team football. Is he on the same level as Lawless? Not by a fair way in my opinion.

However, he is under contract to next summer (2025) so has a big season ahead of him as he will be 22 by the summer and 23 in the first half of next season.

He made his move in February after the Scottish Midfielder was added to the ranks so he was further down the pecking order.

So Tl;Dr: he has found his level, certainly for the time being.

The question may have been better put, what is his ceiling?
