  1. 1,400! After more than 10 years of digging, scanning, cropping and whatnot, we're seeing our 1,400th Partick Thistle player (Billy Gourley) image today, with many thanks to his daughter, Jill, who tells us Billy is doing well at 80. It was only 10 months ago when we announced the 1,300, no way would we have envisaged another 100 so quickly, but there it is - and we've a good many more to follow very soon! Billy played with the greats of 1962-63 who challenged for the flag...

    :detective:   GOALDEN OLDIES
    ● The average age of Thistle's starting eleven (30y, 0m, 18d) is over 30 for only the 7th time in history and for the first time since Dick Campbell's Jags (30y, 1m, 12d) lost 6-1 at Gretna in January 2006.
Aaron Muirhead becomes the 5th member of the current squad to hit the 100 competitive appearances milestone. Aero hits the 50% win-ratio mark and now has a 33% clean-sheet ratio.
Steven Lawless becomes the 50th player in Partick Thistle history to register 50 goals in 'All Games'.
    ● After 8 games, Kris Doolan's Jags have yet to concede a first half goal, and it's 9-in-a-row for the club overall.
Brian Graham becomes the 51st player in Partick Thistle history to register 50 goals in 'All Games'!
    ● With his 10th competitive assist of the season, Kyle Turner hits double figures for the second season in a row. To put this into perspective, he's one of only two Jags to register double figures in any of the last 10 seasons, Kallum Higginbotham being the other.
    ● For only the second time in history, three players aged 30+ (Steven Lawless, Brian Graham & Kevin Holt) score for Thistle in the same League game. The only other occurrence was on 11th February 2004 when goals from Gerry Britton, James Grady & Andy Thomson contributed to a 5-2 win at home to Livingston in the Scottish Premier League.
    ● 17-year-old Zander MacKenzie registers his first competitive assist, having first assisted as a 15-year-old in a friendly at East Kilbride back in July, 2021.
Danny Mullen nets his 4th goal as a Jag and Thistle keep up their 100% win rate when he does so.
    ● Covid-restricted games aside, the attendance of 1,044 is Thistle's lowest League crowd since 716 turned out for a midweek game away to Cowdenbeath on 27th March, 2013.
    ● It's 7th time lucky for Partick Thistle who finally manage to win versus Cove Rangers in the League.

    ongoing sequences:
    ● 41 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Jamie Sneddon - 41 games, 28th Aug 2021 to 9th Jul 2022. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

    :detective:  GOAL DROUGHT

PT and ICT meet for the 8th consecutive time in a non-Saturday fixture, matching the club-record; Celtic (8, 2013-2015), Glentoran (8, 1904-1996) and Queen's Park (8, 1950-1956). The current run of 5 consecutive Fridays is unprecedented!
    ● In an historical first for a Thistle game, two players who've registered hauls of four for Thistle (Billy Dodds & Kris Doolan) face off as opposing managers.
    ● After 7 games, Kris Doolan's Jags have yet to concede a first half goal, and it's 8-in-a-row for the club overall.
Sean Welsh becomes the 23rd man to have both played for Thistle and been sent off against Thistle. He's the second of this season, following on from Joe Cardle. In chronological order of first sending off, the full list reads: Norrie Davidson, Bobby Houston, Colin Jackson, Jimmy Bone, Barney McGee, Dougie Mills, Donald Park, Brian Wright, Gareth Evans, Paul McGrillen, Billy Dodds, Albert Craig, Andy Roddie, Derek Ferguson, Paul Walker, Barry Elliot, James Grady, James Gibson, Eddie Forrest, Steven Anderson, Gary Miller, Joe Cardle and Sean Welsh.
    ● More than 13 years have passed since Thistle came back for so much as a share of the spoils when trailing to a 10-man team. They last did so in a 2-2 League draw at Ross County in October, 2009.
    ● 5 competitive away games without a win at Inverness is an unwanted first in Partick Thistle's history.
    ● It's now 3 League games without a goal for Thistle and you need to rewind back to 2010 to find a longer run (5) in the second tier.

    ongoing sequences:
    ● 40 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Jamie Sneddon - 41 games, 28th Aug 2021 to 9th Jul 2022. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

    Yes.

Lost the tie, but not the match. I think it counts as a draw statistically

Absolutely not! A knockout tie by its very nature can only be won or lost and there is no in-between. The only people who should be interested in declaring draws are bookies laying odds on the outcome at either 90 minutes or 120 minutes.

LONGEST UNBEATEN RUN IN OVER A YEAR

    ● Thistle field their oldest starting eleven (av. 29y, 8m, 6d) since Dick Campbell's Jags (av. 29y, 11m, 2d) won 1-0 at home to Forfar Athletic in January 2006.
    ● After 6 games, Kris Doolan's Jags have yet to concede a first half goal, and it's 7-in-a-row for the club overall.
    ● The run of 15 games without a draw in the Thistle vs. Dundee fixture comes to an end. It's the first draw between the sides since November 2015.
    ● Defensively, the concession of just one goal in six games for Kris Doolan's Jags represents the greatest starting ratio of any Thistle manager in history.
Kris Doolan remains unbeaten in his first 6 competitive matches. Only Alan Archibald (10) has been on a longer run at the beginning of a managerial tenureship.

    ongoing sequences:
    ● 6 competitive games without defeat, 18th Feb 2023 to date. (Longest run since: 6 games, 18th Dec 2021 to 9th Feb 2022. Joint club-record: 16 games, 15th Nov 1975 to 21st Feb 1976 & 30th Sep 2000 to 13th Jan 2001.)
    ● 39 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Jamie Sneddon - 41 games, 28th Aug 2021 to 9th Jul 2022. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

    :detective:  CARD HAPPY

Kris Doolan's Jags have yet to concede a first-half goal in their 5 games.
    ● Almost pleasingly, Stuart Bannigan marks his 350th major competitive appearance with a booking, the first of his testimonial year.
    ● 6 Jagsmen are booked for the first time since a League game at Celtic Park in Dec 2017, Alan Muir the ref on both occasions. It's the first time we've seen 10 players booked since a 2-2 League draw at Fir Park way back in January 2003.
Dougie Imrie follows his managerial red card vs Thistle with a yellow card against Thistle just 2 months later, Alan Muir the ref both times. Of course, he was also sent off as a player against Thistle. A unique set!
Kris Doolan remains unbeaten in his first 5 competitive matches. Only Alan Archibald (10) has been on a longer run at the beginning of a managerial tenureship.

    ongoing sequences:
    ● 38 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Jamie Sneddon - 41 games, 28th Aug 2021 to 9th Jul 2022. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

:detective:  ROVERS RUN ENDED AT FIRHILL

Kyle Turner's excellent assist is his 19th in competitive action in less than 2 seasons.
Brian Graham is on the ascent in all goals charts, and today moves outright into our All Time Top 40 League scorers chart with 37 goals to his name.
Kris Doolan's Jags retire at half-time with a one nil lead for the third time in his four games. They've yet to concede a first half goal.
Harry Milne registers his 5th assist of the season to go with his 5 goals, giving him a fine double figures return in competitive action.
Scott Tiffoney nets his second brace as a Jag, following on from his League double away to Airdrie in March 2021.
Aidan Fitzpatrick hits a new personal best of 13 consecutive appearances in competitive action.
    ● Referee Greg Aitken awards what can only be described as an embarrassing penalty award to Raith Rovers, mis-reading a situation directly in front of him. In his last 13 Thistle games he's awarded six penalties against Thistle and only one in favour.
David Mitchell faces a Raith Rovers penalty for the second time this season, the first being the final nail in a 3-0 League defeat at Stark's Park in October.
David Mitchell is the first Thistle goalie to save a penalty which preserved a winning clean-sheet in the League since Kenny Arthur did so at Pittodrie in February 2003.
Stuart Bannigan, Jagzone man of the match, has yet to be booked in his testimonial year!
    ● Raith Rovers 14 game unbeaten run (reportedly their best in 30 years) comes to an end at Firhill.
Kris Doolan, confirmed as permanent new manager the day before, is the 4th Partick Thistle gaffer to remain unbeaten in his first 4 competitive matches. Only Murdo MacLeod (5) and Alan Archibald (10) have been on longer runs.

    ongoing sequences:
    ● 37 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Jamie Sneddon - 41 games, 28th Aug 2021 to 9th Jul 2022. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

On this day 1963... over 120 SFL fixtures were now backlogged due to the 'Big Freeze'. Thistle were back in League action for the first time since New Years Day. Amazingly, goalie George Niven broke his wrist on the 1st January, but recovered in time for this next League game! 17,238 were at Love Street to see if the Jags could go top of the League in March. So close, but not quite...

If The Thistle Archive used the media for their info they'd be scratching their heads wondering "Duke Gekantawa-Where is he now?" and just where yon Doohlan fella ranked on the goal scoring list.

Oh, absolutely this. 2 or 3 mind-boggingly ridiculous assists month-in-month-out from the OPTA network which even the SPFL uses! The level of care for the Scottish Championship is shameful.

One hat trick for Graham, last season at Inverness.

We'd love that to be true, but it's just not the case; the opener was a clear own goal by Wallace Duffy. We feel a strong sense of duty in recording Partick Thistle's history accurately in every era - it's the reason for the existence of our Archive!

:detective:  BRIAN GRAHAM INTO THE ALL-TIME TOP 50

    ● Thistle have led Dundee at half-time in all 3 League games this season.
    ● With his latest brace, Brian Graham (now on 44) moves into the all-time Top 50 competitive goals chart, overtaking Gerry Britton who was previously 50th with 43 goals.
Harry Milne notches his 5th goal of the season, good going from the left-back position. 3 of these have came against Dundee. He scored his first Thistle goal at home to the Dark Blues and his latest away to them.
Kris Doolan is the 7th Partick Thistle manager to remain unbeaten in his first 3 competitive matches, and is the first to do so since Alan Archibald in 2013.
Kris Doolan has won 7 away points in 3 games. This compares favourably to Ian McCall's 10 away points all season!
    ● Thistle have won 5 of their last 7 games at Dens Park. The overall H2H is currently running 15 games without a draw.

    ongoing sequences:

    ● 36 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Jamie Sneddon - 41 games, 28th Aug 2021 to 9th Jul 2022. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

    :detective:   HISTORIC FIRST FOR DOOLAN

Darren Brownlie makes his 50th competitive appearance.
Jamie Sneddon makes his 100th competitive appearance and registers his 41st clean-sheet in those games. Of all the 'keepers who've played 20 or more games, his 41% clean-sheet ratio currently places him second only to Jim Ferguson (42.6%).
    ● Thistle register a 5th consecutive clean-sheet versus Arbroath, a new H2H record.
    ● For the 8th time in history, Thistle register 4 same-season clean-sheets against the same team in competitive action. It was first achieved vs. Hearts (1921) then Kilmarnock (1968), Clydebank (1978), Kilmarnock (1980), St Mirren (1981), Montrose (1992) and Dunfermline Athletic (2022).
Kris Doolan becomes the first Thistle manager in history to come through his first two games without conceding a goal.
    ● Back-to-back League wins at Gayfield have eluded Partick Thistle FC for all of recorded time.

    ongoing sequences:
    ● 35 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Jamie Sneddon - 41 games, 28th Aug 2021 to 9th Jul 2022. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

Only two other games close to that. Rangers Archives have a clip of a League Cup game from the early 60s, but haven't shared it despite a couple of requests. We always live in hope of finding more. You can find snips of some of our boys on international duty.

With Johnny MacKenzie also being celebrated, I wonder if we could put together an islands 11 team for the Jags?

    @The Thistle Archive might know

Johnny was born in Dennistoun though? So here's a Dennistoun-born Thistle 5-a-side team... and what a forward line it is!

    GK: Davey Haxton
    DF: William Flannelly
    FW: Frank Branscombe
    FW: Johnny MacKenzie
    FW: Willie Sharp

Not sure where you'd draw the line on Islands, but some island-born Jags...

    Rothesay - Hunter Lyle
    Rothesay - James Pinkerton
    Rothesay - Peter Thompson
    Rothesay - Daniel McLean
    Jersey - Jack Boyle
    Trinidad - Kevaughn Connell
    Trinidad - Josh Johnson

      GET INTERIM

    ● Interim manager Kris Doolan takes charge of Partick Thistle for the first time, nearly 4 years on from his final appearance as a player - both times versus Ayr United.
Kris Doolan becomes the 33rd individual to manage a Partick Thistle first team match.
    ● Former Jag Sean McGinty captains Ayr United whilst former United man Ross Docherty captains Thistle.
Kyle Turner hits a new personal best by appearing 17-not-out in competitive action.
    ● Thistle have won all three matches in which Danny Mullen has scored.
    ● Thistle win their first away game in more than 4 months, the 2-1 win at New Douglas Park in October being the last away day success.
    ● Thistle keep their first clean-sheet in 3 months. Ayr United are only the second team not to have scored against Thistle in the League this season, following on from Arbroath.
    ● Congratulations (and celebrations) to Kris Doolan, who becomes the first Thistle manager since Murdo MacLeod in 1995 to begin his tenure with a victory in competitive action.

    ongoing sequences:
    ● 34 consecutive competitive appearances for Jack McMillan, 9th Jul 2022 to date, a new personal best. (Longest run since: Jamie Sneddon - 41 games, 28th Aug 2021 to 9th Jul 2022. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games, 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

  17. Stats can be malleable little blighters, but this table gives a solid no-nonsense comparison of Thistle and their 2nd / 3rd tier managers. Ian McCall's results are below our historical average for the level, and it's been going backwards this season...
