Other than the Scottish Cup, I don't even pay attention any more to what's in store for us in the colourfully named trophies that are in reality pretty worthless, as we are also-rans every time. I know that's also the case for the SC, but at least that's a series of one-off home or away matches (or at least one)!

I disagree, the boy has talent but he needs to be played central midfield
I can understand some folk thinking that he's got what it takes when the circumstances suit him; I even thought he had a brilliant second half to the season before last. But in the harsh reality of life, ideal circumstances don't come around too often, and more often than not this season, regardless of where he played, I saw monotonously wasted free-kicks and corners, lightweight (almost laughable) challenges to win the ball back, terrible first touches, and a ratio of sideways to forward passes of around 5:1. In other words, he could disappear from the team and not be missed.
If he's still here for next season, he'll get my support, but for that to continue he'll need to play better.

If it's BBG and/or MW then all the best to them; they'll have my fullest support from the off, and even if/when things don't look so good. That's what supporters do, no?
To those who were adamant that we needed a completely new approach/coach, well, we've already got Barraclough. And maybe, just maybe, other interviewees crashed for one reason or another, wanting us to change our colours to blue or green, for example, or coming up with a 10-year plan, meaning that he (or she) needed a contract for at least 8 years..... Or maybe their ambition was to guarantee us Championship survival in the next 3 seasons...... Or maybe his (or her) Powerpoint presentation was pointless.
In other words, why should it be somebody from outside at all costs? They've all failed, and been sacked. As somebody said on the thread about relegation etc: Why reward failure? Sure, we failed to get promotion this season (again), but it was a long shot from the outset. And it wasn't BG/MW's squad, but they rang the changes when it seemed necessary, and with what they had.
Dave McParlands are true gems, maybe one in a million.

Goals from midfield - Turner can do this if wevplay him in his best position which is just behind the strikrrs (whoever they are) as an advanced midfielder.
I haven't seen much mention of Turner is he still a Jag or have I missed his departure?
Maybe nobody mentions him because he's totally anonymous. Even if he leaves, it will probably go unnoticed.

Quite a squad of us in the 221st (Drumchapel) were Thistle fans, and Whiteinch supporters bus patrons.

I don't think it would have taken this long to appoint Brian Graham.
Just as an aside (and I'm not even sure why I'm raising this hypothetical situation): if Graham doesn't get the job, I kind of fear for us next season......(But I'd try to stay optimistic....)

Like almost everybody (I guess), I'm looking forward to the unveiling of the new "man in charge" (err, but is (s)he?).
Also like almost everybody (I guess), I have my own preferences regarding who I think could do (and deserves to do) the best job for us right now (and in the season ahead).
As I mentioned before, whoever gets the gig gets my full support (to start with). But I've been thinking.... what if instead of the limited few names that have been getting kicked around in the past couple of weeks, it turns out to be somebody totally off the radar, for example a foreign guy with zero experience of fitba' in Scotland?
As a Scot with frankly too much experience as a punter of fitba' in Scotland, I widnae be averse to something completely aff the rails.

Experienced Sporting Director wouldn’t consider majority prospective managers for following reasonsCaddis - VIRTUALLY NO EXPERIENCE AND BEEN IN ENGLAND FOR 12 YEAR AND THE REST , WHY IS HE EVEN MENTIONED?
Wilson/Graham - INCREASE THERE PAY WITH 12 MONTHS TO PROVE THEY CAN CARRY US FORWARD AND IF THEY DO WELL GIVE LONGER CONTRACT
Imrie - WHAT HAS HE DONE TO MERIT BEING ON THE LIST ? OUR FANS HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM
McPake - PREVIOUS MANAGEMENT JOBS HE’S BEEN SACKED FOR BEING SHITE
Gulp.... I actually thinK, Gulp...... that I agree with that..... Gulp!

As we don't appear to have any new manager(s) in place (publicly) yet, it feels especially weird going to bed (now approaching midnight) on a Sat. with no live stream, manager-related comments, player injuries or predictions, or goals for next season to read about or comment on.
Ach well, it'll probably all kick off on Mon or Tue. Can't wait!

If Dougie Imrie gets the job it makes a mockery of the Sporting Director Role .
Thought the Sporting Director remit was there to take the whole ethos of the Club forward which should include style of football, youth development or coaching players to make them better .
I don’t think Dougie Imrie ticks a lot of these boxes and his first job if he’s appointed is to get the fans onside with him which isn’t really what it should be all about .
Whoever gets the job will have me on his side, as usual. Fresh start. I was even supportive of the Bunnet at the start, then, despite the evidence, convinced myself that the excellent performances were going to come, then, when reality finally struck, celebrated his departure almost as much as John McVeigh's and Peter Cormack's.
I've still got the DC tribute black bunnet that I bought at the time. It never gets worn.

When did we last have a player in the Scottish international team? More than 50 years ago?
ETA Apart from Roughie, of course!

For "hold talks with" read "be interviewed by".

Surely they would know the job description of the job they have applied for?
They are ex-footballers, hence not at all certain that they have any clue about what they're applying for.

There was a promise made by the Board and it was reneged on regarding a coaching role for Hugh Strachan - as stated McParland resigned on a point of principle - no other Thistle manager in the modern era has done so as far as I am aware - then again no other Thistle manager has won a major trophy in the modern era either so McParland is pretty unique.
"The most" unique, in my view. Followed closely behind by Lambie, but DM's achievements are particularly remarkable because of the relatively short time frame in which they occurred, not to mention the odds that were stacked against us.
Almost can't believe returning to a thread that was last active more than 12 years ago! Can't this wonderful forum be saved?

Partick Thistle?
Scot Symon & Davie McParland.
Surely not! Do you really think that Scott Symon played a significant role in McParland's success? He was in charge of just about the worst season in Thistle's entire history right before he was "moved upstairs," i.e, retired, and for good reason. He was entirely incapable of doing anything to turn around the car crash that the Thistle team had become, under his "management." And from the accounts that I've read, including his biography, he was both uninterested and unmotivated at Firhill, just depressed after getting shown the door at his beloved Ibrox.

I am detecting a lot of scepticism about the SD role and in fact some animosity towards Barra.
To be honest I share the scepticism ,to a certain extent ,but I am willing to support it / him for now .
The fact is we have performed poorly as a club for the past few seasons, the football has been crap, player recruitment poor etc.
The SD appointment is something different and given time and support , it might just work .
If he can emulate what the O'Loughlin fella introduced by ChiThistle above has achived in Belgium, he'll be a superman!

Agree with you that Graham wears his heart on his sleeve, but anytime i have seen him being interviewed he also says complimentary things about his teammates, particularly the younger ones.
Well, there ain't anybody older. 😎

I’d like us to have a clear signing strategy for next season, focused on an experienced core supplemented by younger players, including some of our own academy players
Our 2012/13 squad was a mix of experienced players (Archie, Craig) shrewd lower league signings (ATS, Aero, Craigen) and bringing through young players (either our own like Banzo or those released by others such as SoD, Welshy and Forbes).
We have the core of a good experienced squad but I felt we lacked legs this year. I’d like to be signing players of 25 years old max (unless an exception like Doc becomes available) and be trying to progress some of our own young guys like Low, Dolan, Rooney, Falconer, MacKenzie and Diack. We need to be developing players and selling them in the years ahead.
Agree with much of that. I'd add that the younger players you mention need a run of games to get up to speed and the conditions of the game, not just coming one for 10-20 minutes if they're (un)lucky, with little time to get settled or make a real impact.

Are there any convincing examples of a club that has risen from mediocrity to success and where that sequence is attributable to the appointment of a Sporting Director, with a Head Coach as his side-kick?

"and work a bit of magic in transfer window too"
I agree, and that statement raises the issue of who's responsible for the "magic" now; is it the head coach, or the SD? What if they don't see eye to eye?
