But I wouldn't fancy being an Orient fan, now that the Olympics authority have granted West Ham permission to develop the stadium The map explains all... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/superlinusxxx/OLYMPICS.jpg Edited February 11, 2011 by Chris near Oxford
kni
I honestly don't think that it will make any difference to Orient's support base or home crowds. Barry Hearn, however, is a wily old fox and will use West Ham's move to secure a sweetener, probably financial compensation.
Allan Heron
It's a great move for West Ham - ideal for Championshop football
Norman
I'm sure Sullivan, Gold and Brady are over the moon about the extra millions this asset will put on the value of West Ham.
kni
I'm sure Sullivan, Gold and Brady are over the moon about the extra millions this asset will put on the value of West Ham. The cost of reconfiguring the stadium is estimated at £95 million. The Olympic Delivery Authority is giving West Ham £35 million The local council is lending them £40 million, i.e. a cheap loan at the local taxpayer's expense. West Ham could easily raise more than £60 million from the sale of the Boleyn stadium (aka Upton Park). One bedroom apartments in Highbury Square (http://www.highburysquare.com/) now start around £300k - http://homes.trovit....rsenal-stadium. There are nearly 700 flats in Highbury Square. The Boleyn ground is not listed so developers could bulldoze it and put in at least 1500 flats. So the taxpayer subsidies will give Sullivan and Gold a massive return on the investment in the Hammers. Guy Incognito
I would imagine Leyton Orient lose quite a lot of fans to West Ham as it is. This move could make things even more difficult for them.

Jaggy1967
I am 10 miles from Firhill,I pass St Mirren & the pox on the way to watch my team. If they moved to Maryhill it would make no difference to me ... couldn't care about who else it might affect to be honest ! teams like Aberdeen, Dundee, Hearts, Motherwell , St Mirren etc are all sick of watching infirm buses leave their home towns to watch the infirm. Would it make any difference to us ? I think not ! We are in the middle of the grim mire that is West of Scotland football. The sooner the 2 of them piss off to the premiership the better for Scottish football.
Scott J
The problem won't be the current Orient fans changing allegiance, it's the next generation. When they start chucking out £5 tickets to local kids to help fill the Olympic stadium for West Ham in the premiership, you won't get many choosing to be O's fans.
