northernsoul Posted March 20, 2011 Report Share Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) Just copying a section from the column off the official website: LINK "The Centenary Fund was launched almost exactly two years ago in a joint initiative spearheaded by myself and Kieron Dempsey who was then the Jags Trust representative on the Board in an effort to raise funds for the club and to show that the Board and the Trust could work together. Like most good ideas the germ of the Centenary Fund was formulated over a convivial pint of beer (from memory I paid!) and to make it even better it was in the Aitken Suite bar. The Fund replaced two old lottery schemes which were barely contributing anything to the club and for our fans to have taken it to their hearts and to have joined up in the numbers they have is nothing short of phenomenal. It is disappointing to note that over the last two years there has been a degree of negativity from a small number of fans at least some of whom have not even bothered to take out even a Bronze membership. The reality is that at a time when the club has struggled financially the fund has donated over £100,000 to the club whilst having issued over £20,000 in cash prizes and Citroen cars to 4 lucky winners. Citroen Finnieston are so impressed by their association with the Jags that last June they signed a new two year deal to supply 4 more cars. With the exception of unavoidable costs such as postage and computer costs and the cost of prizes every penny that comes into the Fund goes to the club. There are no management charges for running the Fund and no individual receives any remuneration which must be unique for a fund raising effort on this scale."
