  1. Have shaved my head and have been putting on weight for months as a tribute to Buster - we could easily be mistaken for twins! Docs have been cleaned, fresh red 'n' yellow laces are in and the Trojan XXL t-shirt has been found; this is party time - but with work in the morning This is as near to a South Side bus reunion as you'll get; well two of us are making the effort. The others couldn't get day passes or have forgotten how to enjoy themselves! Some are too busy panicking over their share portfolios; which is nice... Going to be a good night Pivo Pivo then time for some Ska action.
  2. I have never heard of a gay-only team, but I found gay Rugby players in the gay boards. Okay Siegey, take your word for it... each to his own and all that !
  3. So we agree that Tommy Sheridan is really Jesus, Gail is the Virgin Mary and some of the disciples are a shower of back-stabbers. Biblical parallels anybody? So if wee Tommy gets jailed does this mean we can expect to see the stone rolled back from his cell with him back amongst his people sometime in April? P.S. Is Soddam and Gomorrah a club in Manchester?
  4. Quote from "Granny made me an Anarchist" by Stuart Christie. "Catholics were poor people who lived down the shabbier end of Hyndland Street near Dumbarton Road. They were the barbarians at the gate, the lurkers at the threshold. When visiting a new acquantance's house for the first time, we automatically checked the mantelpiece and walls for a sacred heart of jesus on abilone shell, the virgin mary or any iconic reference to Celtic football club. Football was the litmus test. If challenged on some strange territory as to which team we supported, the allegiance of which we couldnt identify, we would reply, Partick Thistle, Glasgow's tiny and non-sectarian third team whose followers rejected both roman catholic and republicanism and protestant unionism. Their signature song, sung to the tune of the red flag was, 'hello hello, how do you do, we hate the boys in royal blue, we hate the boys in emarald green, so f**k the pope and f**k the queen." All this from a guy who as a kid played in a flute band, was a member of the Orange Lodge, discovered and rejected socialism, found anarchism and then went on to try to blow up Franco Worth a read btw!
  5. Sigesige00, are you suggesting that all Japanese rugby players and followers are gay and that they were turned on by shorter shorts? What does the longer pant do that the shorter one doesn't or is there something that you're not telling us about the average (or should that be not so average Japanese male? Think I read that rugby was huge in Japan - more players than in the UK; so does this mean that in your country most rugby players are gay? Do you have gay-only rugby teams and leagues? I take it that you're comfortable with all of this and that the notion of a 15-a-side homosexual tussle with a ball doesn't offend you too much?
  6. Interesting topic for discussion SigeSige00, but given that both faiths attract millions of followers and presumably provide comfort to those who adhere to their teachings, who are we to criticise. I'm not saying that you're necessarily wrong, but I do believe that it's important that those who want to believe are free to follow the god of their choice. At the end of the day - and so long as it's not being rammed down my throat, then I really don't give a toss what religious higher power a person chooses to access. In truth, I've met many atheists who I'd say are as bigoted in their view of humanity as any religious zealot. So having no faith and being a di** doesn't do it for me either. Tolerance and understanding mate; but so long as we all sing from the one hymn sheet when we say: Fu** the Old Firm! I'm also with Charlie Endell when he suggests that Jags fans can't afford to be choosey. I don't especially like Tories but am more than happy to sit side-by-side them at any Thistle game. For 90-mins all party political nonsense is left to the one side as we concentrate on watching the tragedy that is unfolding on the pitch. Out of interest, how would you test Jags fans to ensure they were atheists? Are agnostics out of the mix and what about those who don't follow mainstream-type religions i.e.Jedis, Raelians, Vodus, Wiccans and others? I guess what I'm saying is that when I think about it your suggestion is fu**ing bonkers!
  7. But you do know that that the literal meaning has to be explored As I'm sure you'll be aware, the word ‘dictatorship’ is a throw-back reference to ancient Roman that provided for an emergency exercise of power by a trusted citizen i.e. stand in leader. If I recall correctly, for six months at the most. Its basic aim was to preserve the republican status quo in defence of the new Sate against a hostile power - counter revolutionaries in the time of the Bolsheviks. This was directed against the very elements who might seek authoritarian "dictatorship". At least until Caesar destroyed the republican dictatura by going on to declare himself “dictator” in permanence. Stalin later followed this path. Think I've just bored the a*se of myself. With apologies for being a boring pedantic c***!
  8. Sorry to take issue Comrade Jaggy but you do talk one load of utter bo**ocks. Nevertheless, I do respect your opinion. But in the hope that I can bring you over to the side of the righteous I'll leave you with a few chosen words: When looking at all of this - worker's wages to deficit cuts, the measure of any civilised society can be seen in the way it is able to nurture and prepare the next generation. A society that cannot hand over the same living standards and opportunities it has enjoyed is fundamentally flawed; especially when there is no need to cut and slash essential services. You say you don't like the cuts but are happy to go along with them. Going back to the student threads, it can be argued that by securing a prosperous future for today's youth is the guarantee of a dignified retirement for the older generation i.e. you and me. One generation basically hands over the baton to the next... Yet the crisis of capitalism threatens all of this; and none of this is the fault of the average person in the street. Although folk like you will believe the Daily Mail and blame it all on civil servants or council workers. Rising unemployment and attacks on the infrastructure of society, housing, social services and education means increased exposure and lost opportunities for the most vulnerable citizens. The planned deficit cuts mean that a whole layer of young people risk being lost in a vicious circle of unemployment and temporary work, of cuts in benefits, declining living standards and lost opportunity. In short, the very party you support is turning back the clock and is creating a class society that earlier Tory governments had promised to abolish. Remember Thatcher's claims of a "classless society"? It seems a million miles away. IMO, this just shows how out of touch your masters were when they were engaging in social engineering in the 80s and 90s and how out of touch they are now. But maybe you don't subscribe to this notion as "right is might". Having read a few of your rants, I'm guessing that in your free market utopia the free and brave would be able to seize the world. This perhaps explains the need to maintain the ruling class in an eternal war for life, for land, for love, for women, for power, and for gold. The earth and its treasures is really just "booty for the bold" and you want it all for you and yours. (With apologies if I'm generalising but this old class warrior is on a roll here... ) As Stalin once said of the ruling class: When we hang the capitalists they will sell us the rope we use. Basically, the people will have the last laugh and will come back as both judge and jury! Pick through this and remember that there is an alternative to being downtrodden and miserable. But most importantly: Have a good Christmas! Веселого Рождества и счастливого Нового года
  9. Is this not something to do with the number of players req'd to run up and down a pitch comfortably? Bearing in mind the fitness level of players back in the 1800s when the Rules were formultated. Also, something rings a trivia bell about the Rules being drawn up in a masonic hall or club! (Honestly not making this up, but don't think the club was in Govan!)
  10. Bob Crow is the RMT Gen Sec; so now't to do with Aslef. But as I've said before, the job of a Union is to look after its members; so I personally have no problem with what they're trying to achieve. Think CBI, BMA, POF, Tory party etc... all self-interest groups at the end of the day. Just wait and see what your Tory mates have in store for us all over the next few months. Hate to say it, but this mob could end up making Thatcher look like a saint. (Can't believe I actuallty typed that!) When analysed though, train drivers actually provide a public service. Now the bankers and city-types who got us into this mess... therein lies your problem; not well paid workers.
  11. FFS Jaggy, you're on a roll tonight - watch the old blood pressure; this could be too much excitement for you mate. RMT accounts are audited and are in the public domain. Do you seriously think Crow would be that stupid? Put it this way, if you were a train driver, who would you want as a union leader? Don't answer that - probably Mussolini!
  12. What's being a Tory got to do with anything? No need to turn all party political. Crimes against literature mate!
  13. Seek urgent medical help... NOW! You're clearly going soft in your old age - only seven years! But no problem with your suggestion that NoW pays the court costs. But is a custodial sentence really necessary? This is just the State seeking revenge and all this does is to make sheridan into a socialist martyr of sorts. Had Sheridan been an Italian politician his standing would probably have increased. Just a thought...
  14. Disney studios have announced that they're going to make a film about the life of Tommy Sheridan. It's to be called the Lion Cu**t!
  15. Are you Richie Venton in disguise? I actually feel a wee bit sorry for TS but agree that in the final analysis his ego probably was his downfall. As I've said previously in this thread, this shouldn't have been allowed to go to court. I really don't think any of this prurient nonsense is in the public interest and all we have here is the establishment doing their mate Murdoch a favour by allowing this to proceed to hearing. What a waste of police resources and judicial time - hardly the crime of the century. As for Gail sticking by him, could this be her showing her religious side? She apparently lent heavily on her faith in the witness box and made great play of fiddling with her rosary beads. Not knocking it btw, just suggesting that perhaps she can see a reason to stay in the marriage and stick by her man etc. For the record, my ideal outcome would have been "cleared" but with reduced compensation. Anything to get one over Murdoch. But the sad thing is that I don't think the SSP have come out of this with any credit either. I certainly view their actions as class treachery and am glad that I walked when I did; even if I did loose some comrades in the process. But the struggle goes on...
  16. HMHB "All I Want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague Away Kit" says it all really -
  17. The Alison Arms used to have a nice pocket of Jags fans who went on the old South Side bus. The pub is sandwiched between Heraghty's (T** shop) and the New Regent (H** shop). Think most of the boys have dispersed to all points of the compass - to include the one who famously walked into the boozer in full Rocky Horror garb - stockings, sussies etc. (In fairness, the show was playing in Glasgow.) Thereafter, fondly referred to as "the oldest rent boy in the West of Scotland!" I also recall that one of the Jags fans adopted the stage name of Troy De Nero - great name, mental guy Think he's given up his ferret-based strip act - I swear this is only time I've ever seen a small furry mammal wearing a Davy lamp . But I've since heard he's still recording songs and demos etc. Apparently goes down well in the OAP swingers clubs of Crookston.
  18. Such cynicism in one so young! Anyone who is being attacked by the media and Tory apologists (i.e. guys like you)is clearly doing a good job and should be applauded. Tablets; you know me so well. But it's my red and yellow ones on a Saturday. The blue ones make me bitter and twisted. DG: Discussion Group!! Get with the kids FFS.
  19. 1. Seriously glad that you're okay - was a little worried and want you fit and well to be able to post when your coalition falls on it's ar**. It's but a matter of time; but gawd knows what will take over as New Labour Mark II has no answers. 2. For a Millwall fan (home of the NF and all that...) I actually quite like Bob Crow even if he's not doing what Sheridan did in the past i.e. to the average wage of a skilled worker. But remember I'm not his biggest fan; but fair's fair. What he (Crow that is) does is to fight for his members and if you check year-on-year wage increases, he's doing a good job. In private industry he'd probably be bonused up to his sphincter. Wages are actually: His basic pay rose from £84,923 in 2008 to £94,747 at the end of last year, according to figures published by the RMT. Bob Crow's overall pay package rose from £122,167 to £133,183 last year. On top of this he claimed £9,989 in expenses and £2,376 in travel costs, taking his total income to £145,548. All declared and legitimate. Oh, and the train operators also benefited from increased profits (and a great subsidy from government than when nationalised under Old Labour); so everyone was happy. As productive a partnership between the employer and worker as you'll get. Now what the Tories want to elsewhere; well, we all know what that is... But I guess the rail shareholders won't be happy when I get in power nationalise the railways and have Tories picking up dog sh** with their teeth as part of their community service for crimes against the State. A wee footnote is that since de-nationalised, the rail subsidy has increased by over 300% year-on-year. Guess who's footing the bill? Yip, mugs like you and me. Fiscal madness and not in the interests of anyone.
  20. Gutted, fu**ing gutted that I missed this lot at the ABC tonight:http://www.ramonas.co.uk/ My gig going mate is at The Saw Doctors - the drunken c*** keeps phoning to let me hear little bits and others are at work-type bashes. I could have been down the front giving it a bit of Gabba Gabba Hey! Anyone else missed something that's looked no bad?
  21. Frank Black and the Catholics eponymous debut album. Loads of highlights on this one with my favourite tracks being "The Man Who Was Too Loud" & I Gotta Move Backing vocals by the weirdly named Cult of Ray.
  22. And the prize for Glasgow's answer to The Inbetweeners goes to... Had to read that a few times to take it all in. "A remarkable night out" as I'm sure it said the The Herald! Good one mate
  23. Yoda Jag You're spot on mate; that's all it was - an attempt at humour! Some of it was that bad it was LOL funny. I could probably come up with similar for New labour - Prescott would probably get his own page! But primarily aimed at some of the not so young Conservatives who grace the pages of this DG. They really should know better; methinks the port has addled their collective brain!
