  1. They just didn't seem to be clicking on the power play and giving up short handed goals is never clever. As for the rioters, this is exactly what we don't need as the Olympics seemed to have demonstrated that people could have fun in public without wrecking the place. Big problem for me here is now when I say I am from Victoria they think it means Melbourne. Before this debacle I just said Vancouver to avoid confusion.
  2. The atmosphere in Vancouver should be like that which was present for the olympic gold medal game (outstanding). Hopefully the city wide support will tip things in favour of the Canucks. This series must be nice for the neutrals but this really is hell for supporters. Thursday morning 10am KO here in Sydney. I would estimate that by 1001am I will have scared passerby.
  3. Okay now its getting beyond interesting and becoming scary. Its a best of 3 now with 2 of those in Vancouver. What could possibly go wrong?!
  4. That was old school Canucks circa 1970-1992 and 1996-2002. I am hoping it was the proverbial "bad day at the office". Next game will be very interesting.
  5. Sydney away to Melbourne Victory October 8th. Booking flights and cheap hotel now. Of course, no Muscat to hurl abuse at will be bad but I am sure the Victory can provide some other villain for us. SFC OK!
  6. Bloody hell! Sports Tonight in Sydney just had that goal on as the play of the night! They then took a few minutes to try and pronounce Canucks. 3 more wins. This is getting very interesting.
  7. Well done. It all looks pretty good right now. Of course, anything is possible in Canuck-land.
  8. Third period was exciting but I am afraid the slow start did them in. I only get the radio feed though so my testimony could be slightly dodgy. It was kind of bizarre listening to a hockey game in Sydney in the fall where the temperature was better than back in vancouver in the spring. Next game is at some insane time (12 noon Pacific Time!?) so I make it a 5am kick off here. I might not wake up that early....
  9. Nice way to start the series. It looks likely to be close and might go longer rather than shorter. I would imagine Vancouver is getting hectic. This is only the third time in 40 years they have made it this far. The bandwagon will be well and truly full!
  10. The next series should be good. Detroit have a great recent history but right now the Sharks look marginally better. Either way, the Canucks shall make it interesting.
  11. Its all a cunning plan to get more revenue by having more home games. I think....
  12. The Canucks do not make it easy. Given they had only won 13 playoff series in the 40 years prior to this season it is reasonable to assume that 4 in a row is a very tough task. One hopes that this year they have the team to successfully work their way through the series. On a side note, years of Canucks style "entertainment" have prepared me well for the Thistle roller coaster.
  13. Great result for the Canucks. Too bad Montreal lost today as I had this sad fantasy of Montreal vs Vancouver in the final. Hopefully the Canucks can push on from this series and do well in the next one. I think they play Nashville.
  14. Things are getting hectic now. Series tied 3-3 with game seven in vancouver tomorrow night. Canucks do not want to be added to the very short list of teams (3 so far since 1940) who have blown 3-0 series leads. I'll be at my post ranting and raving at my phone.
  15. Following the Canucks is indeed a roller coaster. I spent a few hours today outside the library using the free wifi to listen to that debacle. I am betting the campus security at USyd now have many reports of a crazed canadian swearing at a phone. Anyway, it is now a very interesting series and the Canucks still have 2 chances to finish it off. Given the last two years when Chicago seemed to overwhelm the Canucks late in the series I was hoping there was something different this year.
  16. Vancouver has done a fine job building up their team. I'll avoid Toronto bashing here but will say that Burkey is a decent GM and if anyone can sort out MLSE it is him. The Canucks have had a decent start to the playoffs. We shall see what happens as they (hopefully) progress. I am in Sydney for a year so will be relying on the interwebs for Canucks updates.
  17. I went to the Mariners v Fury match in Gosford last night. Once again the Thistle rain jacket was necessary. The Mariners won 3-2 but the most notable event was ex-Jag Simon Storey scoring a nice goal after some comedy defending by the Central Coast team. The AFL final was yesterday and the NRL final is today so hopefully the A-league can get some more press and better crowds as the spring and summer come. Weather is a bit Vancouver-like out there today (rainy and cold). Sydney FC have Adelaide on Monday at the SFS so it better warm up by then as Sydneysiders are a tad soft when it comes to bad weather.
  18. The rain was indeed torrential. My Thistle rain jacket came in handy as despite what it looks on tv the SFS roof covers not much at all. Sydney did hit the post a couple of times but got no luck. Up next is the league leaders Adelaide on Monday, so that'll likely be a 3-0 home victory!
  19. I am in Sydney and went to their match on sunday night. They do look a struggling side at the moment. Hopefully tomorrow night will be a positive step forward for them. One thing to comment on from the match was the home end...some decent atmosphere was generated. I also must say i enjoyed having a beer, standing and not getting crap from various authorities. Weather was fine today so i hope tomorrow is as well. Spectating is sure a lot more pleasant when you are not freezing!
  20. Here in Vancouver setanta had that game and now the Everton v Man U one. Nice way to spend the morning watching decent football whilst doing paperwork.
  21. We live in exciting times here at Vancouvers Largest Biotech firm. To prepare for an upcoming ISO audit the QA team have inspected our facility and found some things to be non-compliant. My habit of putting PTFC on things is now forbidden. Here is the email: Mike: Please remove ALL references to PTFC (or any other non-work related reference) from ALL materials in the building (labs, offices etc.) by the end of the day today. And of course, do not write this anywhere else from now on. Thanks, Manager The rest of the day should be fun. I guess I will be wandering around with cleaning items and chatting with people.
  22. Bloody nightmare. We need Toronto to remain in turmoil so they can lose in the Canadian Championship matches. It serves me right for choosing to cheer for the lesser of two great evils. Canucks have 40 year record of not being up to much but we still live in hope!
  23. Nice to see everything all up and running. The decent result yesterday should help the mood. Briefly, the Canucks are now only 13 wins away from winning the Stanley Cup, the 3 senior scientists in our group are flying to London for the next week so plenty of forum time at work and Claude Anelka is still winless as a football "manager". I am now off to watch Seattle hammer Toronto in MLS then into work to show the cells who is boss.
