A description that could equally apply to Diack unfortunately. We really need two strikers in before the season starts
I think Diack was injured. He was taken off, and one of the coaching team had to help him back to the changing room. Possibly a shoulder problem. Hopefully precautionary and not too serious.
I am hopeful that Thomas Horn may become a decent striker for us before too long, but tend to agree that for the moment we could do with 2 strikers with reasonable scoring pedigrees.

Some takeaways:
Ben Stanway is going to be our goal scoring midfielder this season.
Cammy Logan is ten times better than Jack Harkness at right back.
We are still looking for a centre forward.
Stevie Lawless and Matty Falconer seemed to read each other really well and put together some great combinational play. That could be a partnership to watch.
Robbie Crawford runs about a lot.

That triple salvo showed what this team can do. For 10 minutes we played like Barcelona. Thereafter the game rather petered out with a flurry of substitutions and we held on for the 3-2 win.

The world has changed totally. From 0-2 down to 3-2 up!

@Auld Jag will be pleased to know that this is going to be the season of playing out from the back. Constantly conceding possession and giving away goals and chances is not deterring us from trying to play football the proper way.

Number 9 has made no impression at all. He received one pass in clear space and hit a decent shot which was saved, but apart from that he has been hiding in plain sight and steering clear of any potential contact situation. I am wondering if he decided early he did not fancy it and spent the rest of the half trying to avoid injury.

Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle are both keen on Louis Moult.
The Championship pair have both declared an interest in the 33-year-old.
Moult is a free agent after he left Dundee United in the summer.
Pars boss Neil Lennon is keen to add more of a cutting edge to his frontline and wants to take Moult to East End Park.
Rivals Thistle are also interested with boss Mark Wilson looking for somebody to replace Brian Graham’s goals.
Moult also has options back in England but would return north for the right option
He could inherit Kevin Holt's song.

Lovely tribute on OS by Michael Max.

Out of likes, so will just say that I agree wholeheartedly.

What a fantastic ambassador for Partick Thistle! Nothing was ever too much trouble. I can remember him helping my son with a school project on Partick Thistle at the time of Save the Jags. He also came and spoke to my church's Senior Citizens Lunch Club. A wonderful person in every way.
Condolences to family and friends.

Very enjoyable day out in a relaxed location. Great for those with young children, as you could wander about anywhere and the grassy bank on the far side from the stand was nicely angled to provide an excellent view.
First half we were very sound defensively with Bud in goal and Ashcroft and O'Reilly at centre back mopping up everything. Reading looks a good acquisition at left back. You could see that he was an experienced player who knew what to do. Trialist right back (Cammy Logan?) also impressed and took his goal very well with a shot into the roof of the net when anything lower might have been saved or blocked. Lawless looked up for it. McKay eased himself back in to playing football with some nice touches. He was not particularly penetrating but did combine neatly with Falconer to set him up for the first goal. Main disappointments in the first half were Diack, who kept falling over and never got into the game, and Mackenzie. I was willing Zander to do well in centre midfield, but he kept losing possession.
Second half was a different game entirely with mainly a different team. The young goalkeeper Cameron has a bit to do yet to become a confidence inspiring back up for Bud, and sadly was at fault for the Glenafton goal, allowing himself to be dispossessed by their striker, who trundled the ball into the net. McBeth tried to co-ordinate the defence, but there were some shaky moments with his young colleagues. Further up the park we were much sharper in midfield and attack, Stanway was very prominent in winning possession and driving the team forward, and seemed to be embracing a leadership role. Fitzpatrick had one electrifying burst where he ate up ground on a defender, but was a bit quiet apart from that. Chalmers was excellent and the go to player through whom most effective attacks were directed. To me the main and perhaps surprising encouragement was young Thomas Horn at centre forward. Unlike Diack, he gave the defence no peace and was up and at them the whole time. Took his goal brilliantly, powering past the goalkeeper and firing home confidently from a challenging angle. Unlucky not to score more. It would be great to see him really kick on this season.
Not the most robust of games, just an understandably gentle easing in, but several encouraging signs to keep us all optimistic!

Team for going aff to Glenafton
4-2-3-1
Budinauckas
Rooney Ashcroft. O’Reilly Reading
McBeth Mackenzie
Chalmers Stanway Fitzpatrick
Diack
Rooney showed up well at right back on his substitute appearance at Firhill when he put over a beautiful cross which Graham was unable to finish.
Would like to see a younger midfield combination, with Stanway getting forward and shooting. Crawford can come on and run about in the second half.
I appreciate that McKay and Lawless may get some game time and may even start, and that some trialists may disrupt my suggested team.

Yup. I think we'll all get better at spotting AI generated content. Fair to say that that particular article must've been an AI assisted effort prompted by someone fluent in corporate speak.
Presumably the AI bot was not fed any JagZone interviews or it would have scattered the odd "Listen" here and there.

Just like chess, football is largely won in the centre of the playing surface...
Fair enough, but an outside passed pawn can still be a handy weapon.

Somebody (who must have been reading the forum) has now shoehorned a "2" between NEXT and YEARS on the PTFC website.

No real disadvantage to them, and would bring a lot of goodwill.
The one advantage here is that the two clubs have got six months to work something sensible out here so that you don’t have 800+ people who would otherwise have watched this game simply going to the Boxing Day sales.
I think that I would give the Boxing Day sales a miss and stay at home and listen on JagZone.
Picking up a point made at the TJF AGM last night, I would happily act as Auxiliary Fan Liaison Officer that day if it gets me into the game!

I am happy to give Alex Rae a clean slate. He does seem to have calmed down and is able to laugh at himself, which is always a healthy trait.
HIs midfield experience should be especially useful and relevant. I do not think he would have signed up unless he thought that we were going to be reasonably competitive this season.

On a lighter note, a couple of decades ago, my daughter, then at school, was given a homework assignment to take an article from a newspaper and explain more about the story to the rest of the class. With perfect timing, she was able to choose an article entitled "No Rae of Sunshine at Firhill" or something similar, which told the story of Alex Rae scoring and then being sent off both as a player and a manager, and to give her own eye witness account.

Queens Park v Thistle on 27th December 2025 could be disappointing timing, given that very few Thistle supporters will be able to attend. No doubt many Thistle fans who return from places further afield to Glasgow for the festive season would have fancied following Thistle on the road and sampling the unique atmosphere of an away match. That may prove impossible for them (and indeed also for many of us who dwell in Glasgow and neighbouring areas).

What a wonderful character, and great that the coming generations are following in his footsteps. Condolences to family and friends.

I think we could say Paddies Kelly, as there have been at least two.
And I would also add Paddy Keogh.

With a name like Reading, he should be good at playing between the lines.
Just thinking of Reading, hope he is Niall Keown Season 1, not Niall Keown Season 2 or 3.
-
When they say left-sided defender, I hope that they really mean left back/wing back, as we want to get Dan O'Reilly back into his optimum left-side central defender position.
Experienced, but still reasonably young, which is good. Just wish he had scored a few more goals!

The Fyrish Monument just along the road provides ready made goal posts and an excellent view.

Logan also got back to make an excellent goal-line clearance when the rest of the defence had been caught out.
