  1. They got their fortune by luck and good luck to them. They have done much good for our club.
  2. No Archie had to go. The problem is that Gary Caldwell is a poorer manager than Archie.
  3. You are right. What a total waste of money, that's the problem is it not? The people running our club haven't got a clue, they couldn't run a bath and would struggle to pick their nose never mind a good manager. This isn't going to end well.
  4. Mmmmmm.........now that's a tricky one
  5. Fair enough Javeajag. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and your position is both reasonable and fair in wanting to give Gary Caldwell more time. I don't believe we have the best squad of all time, nor do I believe it is our worst. I would say we have an a very unbalanced squad with some good, bad and indifferent players. A good manager will get the best out of the players available and a great manager will get them to play well above themselves, crafting a strong unit far greater than the sum of its parts. I have little confidence in Gary Calwell's managerial abilities. I also have little confidence in the people running our club, I would go as far to say that they're currently running the club into the ground. I hope I am wrong Javeajag, I really do.
  6. I thought Archie should have left at the end of last season and we should have got Ian McCall or Jim Goodwin in. I would now go for Jim Goodwin as a matter of urgency. Archie won 3 league games with this squad this season. Caldwell has won 0. These are facts, our club is in free fall. I wouldn't of touched Caldwell with a barge poll in the first instance and you're the one that's deluded if you believe he is going to turn this around.
  7. No not 100% certain. However, I believe Ray McKinnon will turn Falkirk around and Jim Goodwin will improve Alloa as the season rolls on. Gary Caldwell has a very poor managerial record. The omens are not good.
  8. Can't argue with this. Say what you like about Archie, if he was still in charge we would be picking up points. We wouldn't be looking like near certainties for bottom place.
  9. Don't worry Gary. You're good for a few games yet
  10. I have nothing against Gary Caldwell he's probably a decent enough chap, but I really don't rate him as a football manager. I felt really down heartened when the club appointed him. From top to bottom we're as soft as a feather. We are a joke. Let's be honest; we should of hired Jim Goodwin. He would have sorted it out
  11. A lot of blame is still being put upon Alan Archibald, regarding the state of the current playing squad. Archie's gone, but it's well worth remembering that he got 3 league wins out of this squad, before his departure. Also worth remembering that Archie was thrown in at the deep end as a current player, who as a rookie manager, picked up the pieces and led us with some style to become champions. He then kept us up for 4 years on a limited budget and with no director of football holding his hand. At the end of last season it was very obvious that Archie and Shaggy were totally burnt out. They had given everything they had to give. And at the end of the day that's all you can ask of anyone. Isn't it? I don't trust the judgement of the people who are running our club. I don't believe the owners, the chairperson or the chief executive are up to the task. They seem to be playing at running a football club. The problem is at the top. It all comes from the top. The good ship Thistle is presently rudderless, taking in water, has a mutinous crew and is fast approaching the rocks. Our club deserves better than this. Much better.
  12. Every cloud has its silver lining.
  13. Don't say you weren't warned.
  14. Deja vu. This is not good. "My overriding memories of his managerial reign was one of stubbornness and a never ending obsession to play it aimlessly around the back at a snails pace allowing the opposition to get back in formation. I recall that game at boundary park whenever I'm struggling to sleep. In addition all too often we left the striker isolated on his own up front, scandalous really given the resources we had. It was only the loan of mcaleny that we sorted that out. Clearly Yanic was major difference and in all honesty given the team we had anything other than the title would have been a failure, whomever was in charge. His second season was a disaster. Players fitness was well below par, the obsession with pointless passing killed us by players unsuited to such a system, let alone some of the bizzare team selections with players out of position nigh on ever week. Personally I thought he was out of his depth, his tactics were wrong and quite frankly the tedious style was boring the arse of me. I thought he was the right appointment at the time but also thought it right he was sacked. Respect and like him as a man and player. However if he's to succeed at management he needs to ignore Bobs advice and realise there is nore than one way to play the game. You need to adapt and be flexible not rigidly stick to something even when it's not working - especially if you have lower league players who don't necessarily have the skill to play a certain way." 15. Agreed Third Lanark. My poor use language twisted what I meant. Was meaning that Chesterfield were a financially straitened club compared to Wigan. You're right Chesterfield are in no way a "straightened" or straight club. Nevertheless, look at what Ian McCall achieved as manager of Clydebank, working out of a potacabin, can't think of more difficult circumstances. Any clown can cruise along at a club with decent resources and support mechanisms. You find out a lot more about a person in how they react and cope in difficult circumstances.
  16. I wouldn't of touched Neilson with a barge pole. Caldwell's managerial record is pretty dismal. Worth remembering the club that he had some success with is Wigan, a club bankrolled by Dave Wheelan, a man who's net worth is in the hundreds of millions. Calwell's "spell" at Chesterfield a more straightened club, was an absolute unmitigated disaster. Fair enough; if you like a good sob story and are happy with a manager, who has a record of 3 relegation's and 1 promotion in 3 years Calwell's the man for you. For me, its Jim Goodwin
  17. Especially this; "The team changed, but the principles behind the way we were going to play stayed the same. Never change the way you play – that’s something I learned from Roberto Martinez. He taught me that once you believe in something, you stick by it. If it’s not working, you don’t rip it up and start again. You find ways to make it better." Says the man with 2 relegation's in 3 seasons. Not exactly Bill Shankly, is he?
  18. No no, you're wrong MJ, "snowflakes" love that sort of stuff , it's all very diverse and modern. You should combine it with some of your best "cheap banter", you'd be onto a sure fire winner, with no offence given, nor taken. Let's face it, streaking never did John Hughes any harm.
  19. Either someone from the club is blabber mouthing to the Sun, or Caldwell's agent is talking the whole thing up, my guess is the second. Either way, somebody has zero class.
  20. I really hope we don't end up with Gary Caldwell, I think he would be an absolutely terrible appointment. His managerial record is (IMO) pretty dreadful.
  21. We should get a good manager as we are an attractive proposition, we are not a hire and fire outfit. As others have said, we have much to offer an ambitious hardworking manager. I think the debate on this thread, has been conducted in a very good and reasoned manner. With many different and valid cases well made.
  22. No..........but I did get 25/1 on him Odds Next Partick Thistle Manager
