  1. Hamilton Accies couldn't make a player out of Akins that's why they stuck him out on loan. Accies that is that had McCarthy, McArthur & Easton on their books around that time so I'd suggest they would have got as much out of Akins as any club at the time. Had we a larger budget McCrystal (who I'm sure is left sided) could have stayed as cover for Archie. Morrow iirc didn't look like he wanted to be at Firhill never mind being coached and motivated. If you want to dig up players that we've had that have gone on to bigger or better things I would be more inclined to highlight our league's joint top scorer.
  2. You really need to keep up, lads. McNamara announced his retirement about 10 days ago. I would imagine Donnelly could still be called upon in a crisis.
  3. I didn't think the first half was that bad. Certainly seen worse first halves at Firhill this season. One thing we've been getting a bit better with is kicking on in the 2nd half regardless of how we play in the first. Beforehand we too easily ran out of ideas or effectively chucked it if we hadn't got anything in the first 45 mins.
  4. He is tho' a good footballer and if he ever got his attitude sorted out he could be a handful. Fortunately few folk ever go to Morton and improve or come good. I still think McKinlay (an exception to that rule) if fit wouldn't be a bad re-signing.
  5. Judging by the way the passengers burst into a pub when they arrive Id guess the buses are not too bevy friendly. Even if they were, uber, I don't think anyone would put it on print on here.
  6. Tade has real pace so he's thus not really too much of a risk moving up to SPL. McMenamin's days at that level are long gone. I can see him going back to Dundee but if you read back a bit on this thread you'll see the reasoning behind how he could come into our price range.
  7. I note tho' where you stay, PT . I'm not so certain Ayr will bring their usual level of support unless we have an early fixture at Firhill and/or they're doing better than expected. From my own selfish point I'm losing the Binos and the Pars both only about 20 mins from my house. Cowdenbeath ain't much further either so from the diesel aspect I should want them to stay up and Hamilton to come down. I should add that even with my love of hedges Brechin isn't exactly a great away day. The place is like a ghost town these days unless you have a love of charity shops and soulless hotel bars. Forfar and Ayr offer more, tho' the former like Brechin has no rail link. I've never been to the new St Mirren place and they'd certainly bring better crowds to Firhill than Accies. That said Morton would be the major benefactors if Hamilton were able to stay up and besides St Mirren's new ground looks like it has all the appeal of Almondvale. Think I'd be happy enough with Accies and Cowden in Div 1 next season but I so want Ayr to do well if Bannigan plays.
  8. Eh? What's important about that thread? Who our next manager is, now that's important. Not a thread about who do you think has applied for the job. What's important about a lot of us bandying the names of out of work managers about? The thread's just idle speculation about something that none of us will know anything about. Of Course there's absolutely nothing wrong with that thread. This forum would be all the poorer without idle speculation threads. Think you're making a mountain out of a molehill.
  9. Once upon a time there was this company call Propco ........
  10. Detest Dundee intensely but in this instance I have some sympathy for them. It's no secret that the National Union of Mascot Performer Trade Institute is a most powerful organisation. Dundee FC may be able to ride roughshod over Fraser Wishart and the Players Union but I don't think even they would have the cojones to take on a paid up member of NUMPTI.
  11. Aye, he more or less chucked it after that. Looked to me like he was past cairn.
  12. Superb stuff! Just as a very small aside was it not Alan Hansen who told the guy Denis isn't even playing?
  13. I was behind the goal when he got his first. Nobody was obviously going to go in with a crunching tackle but they fully anticipated the lad to trundle a slow ball into the goallie's arms. The lad in fact placed a shot outwith the keeper's reach with power you'd only expect a guy double his age would possess. Over the years I've watched a lot of kid's football of all ages but that wee shot was extra special That's great to hear your lad enjoyed it so much, Davie. Great credit has to go to the guys that organised this event. I trust the Club appreciate the benefits of all this and it becomes a permanent fixture on the jaggy calendar.
  14. And a big ditto from me . Thanks, Tommy, your photos are always appreciated.
  15. Especially nice to see Conrad Balatoni and Tommy Stewart there as well. I'd like to see them both in Jags shirts next season. Conrad kinda blew it yesterday if Hearts had him watched. Playing like that and he's more likely to be a squad player with Hearts rather than back out on loan again.
  16. Have said a few times I'd have settled for a 7th or 8th place if we bloodied the youngsters and concentrated on playing the players signed for next season. Loss of a few league places is more than compensated for putting a side out in August that is tried and tested. Finishing fifth and introducing the youngsters is thus imo a satisfactory result Besides two or maybe all three of the clubs above us that remain in our division may well be far more concerned with off the pitch problems to be celebrating their league finish.
  17. Good summary (as indeed was MP's, tho' I'm more enthusiastic about Stewart) I tho' can't muster any enthusiasm for the Challenge Cup. Year in year out it's costing the Club considerable cash to play in it. Even when you're out of it you run the risk of having a Saturday home match rescheduled. Take this season 1001 fans turned up for a the rearranged Q o S game, which would have attracted a crowd of over double if played on the original date. Even if we had won thru in the semis we'd still have lost out on rescheduling that game. In fact crowds would have been even lower as we'd be even more sick of the sight of playing each other. Stupidly conceived competition
  18. Beattie did say a while back that Jackie was favourite at that particular time. Imo 7 pts from 5 games given the amount of injuries is satisfactory. Also JMcM has not been slow introducing the youngsters and also trialing Stewart. Most significant to me was today when he played Scully instead of Fox. That to me was the right thing to do but still quite remarkable for a temp manager if he was trying to impress with results. I shouldn't be shocked by anything at Firhill but I would be very surprised if Jackie doesn't get the job.
  19. Great photos as ever, Jim Thanks for all this season. Much appreciated. Enjoy your summer and hope your back gets sorted pronto,
  20. Soccerbase make it 15 league goals for Stewart. Ironically his 15th was against us.
  21. Rowson goal was the icing on the cake but even omitting David's performance today's 2nd half must be up there. I reckon we ended up playing 5 players under 20 year old and one just a few months out his teens. Factor in guys like Erskine, Doolan, Boyle, Cairney and Flannigan none of whom are that much older and that's the youngest Jags side I can remember seeing for a very long time. That to me in itself is a highlight of the season.
  22. Congrats also to Scott Fox. I honestly never thought I'd see him save a penalty. Only kiddin', Scotty
  23. I'm usually more noted for my cynicism but I'm not the least bit ashamed to say today's ending to the game brought a tear to my eye. I, like most folk my age, have gone through the trauma of losing at least one parent and will know just how hard it is to function for days on end afterwards. Sometimes you think you're doing just fine but in reality your suffering big time. Well David must have been like that today. Yet through strength of character he didn't just go through the motions of playing 90 minutes he was arguably the best player on the park and, as we all who were there today witnessed, ninety minutes means to David just that. To be honest if his final shot had ended up in the canal I'd still have been signing his praises tonight. The fact that David's final shot was hit with such power and precision only further enhances his reputation, something I and most of the support already knew that he's one hell of a professional. Football's just a game but every so often it throws up moments that display real courage and character. In my mind we just witnessed today one of those rare moments.
  24. I'm bringing a Raith fan into the JHS today. I'll be the one wearing the red & yellow hard hat .
