Well done to Dools for changing things and well done to the 11 starters, not a failure among them. I thought Milne was brilliant today but great performances from many others. I know we were under the cosh a bit in the 2nd half but we defended well for the most part

to add, yet another poor excuse for a ref today, where on earth do they dig these guys up from?

Agree about the ref - never gave the impression he was in control, did not pretend he was even bothered about throws in being taken from even close to the correct position and failed to give the corner at the death (even with the assistant signalling for it).

Agreed  - Top 4 is the target - my argument is that its pretty much is always the target

Dropping a point out of it Mid Feb = a sacking ?

Now TJF Board Members are saying if we dont make the Top 4 - Dools gets another Season ?

I would agree that we should always be aiming for top 4 at the start of the season then when we get to Christmas we can see if that needs adjusted up or down.

With regards to the "if McCall got sacked so should Doolan" arguement I would say that it is easy on paper to say same rules for everyone but in most situations there is usually a degree of personal judgement applied (I know in my job that is the case otherwise they could get rid of me and replace me with a computer program). McCall - an experienced manager, well backed by the club in the transfer market against Doolan a first time manager operating in a slightly different environment.

If everything in football was totally clear and obvious it would be rather boring and we certainly would not have topics here going for 12 pages.

Thanks FT  It was the Poster Lenzie Jag who stated that the target was third so some confusion  - so Dools has No Target - Nothing to measure him against - however if we miss the Playoffs it has a Financial Implication - just as missing promotion last Season as stated by the Board had a Financial implication

So by Logic -you sack one Manager for not hitting Targets - You Sack the other One

The financial target has been put out there by the board, the only football target I have heard expressed was that given by Mr Creevy pre season which was top 4. My assumption is that top 4 would be the target but we all know the dangers of assuming.

Do clubs actually benefit much financially from the play-offs? I seem to recall something about the gate money being split between the clubs and the SPFL. I do realise that the prize money is greater the higher up we finish.

I believe at our level there is a large amount of the gate receipts which end up with the SPFL but when reading Dunfermline's report on their accounts they indicated they actually lost out by winning the league as they had budgeted for play off games so don't know if it is different for the bottom two leagues.

  5. The Club-Trust Agreement has now entered into force. This historic agreement gives Partick Thistle a robust legal structure for its fan ownership model. It puts democracy at the heart of the most important decisions affecting the Football Club.
Later this year, beneficiaries of the PTFC Trust will get to elect at least two fan representatives to the Football Club Board. This is a major milestone, as it puts multiple fan voices at the heart of strategic decision-making at the Football Club, making it more fan-centred and providing a direct line of accountability to a body of more than 2,400 Thistle fans.
Beneficiaries will also get to vote to approve or reject any investment proposal that would affect the share structure of the Football Club. This protects the fan ownership shareholding against dilution without the consent of the fans themselves.
    QUALITY ASSURANCE
Earlier today, the PTFC Trust emailed everyone on its beneficiary database, asking them either to confirm or update the details that we hold about them. This quality assurance exercise is intended to make sure that everyone who is eligible to vote is included, and that the principle of one beneficiary, one vote is properly respected.
Getting the membership database right is important, and we want as many beneficiaries as possible to confirm or update their details. As an incentive and a thank you, therefore, the Trust will enter everyone to confirm or update their details by 5pm Sunday 31st March into a prize draw to receive a signed PTFC shirt.
    WHO IS A BENEFICIARY?
A beneficiary of the PTFC Trust is anyone over the age of 16 who is any of the following:
    • a season ticket holder
    • a member of The 71 Club
    • a member of The Jags Foundation
    • a member of The Jags Trust
    DIDN'T GET THE EMAIL?
There are typically four situations in which we, the PTFC Trust, might not currently hold the details of a season ticket holder
    • multiple season tickets were purchased in the same online transaction (so all are under the same email address)
    • a season ticket was purchased over the phone or in-person (and no valid email provided)
    • someone hold an U16 season ticket, but turned 16 during the 2023-24 season
    • consent was previously withheld to being contacted by email
If this applies to someone, it means they will not have received the email we sent out earlier today. If this applies to a season ticket-holder that you know, please ask them to email [email protected], providing their full name, preferred email address and proof of 2023-24 season ticket purchase/renewal. Once verified with the Club, we can add them to our database and they will be able to exercise their rights as a beneficiary.
    OPTING-OUT
Any beneficiary can opt-out from receiving communications from the PTFC Trust at any time, and can request the deletion of their personal data from the database by emailing [email protected]. However, this will prevent the PTFC Trust from contacting them about any future beneficiary votes or other fan ownership news.
You can also get in touch to raise any questions or concerns using the same email address.

What’s the source for this assertion ?

To give Jim's fingers a well earned rest I will answer this one.

The report from the club after the AGM stated the budgeted for loss was based on finishing in the playoffs and not getting past Ross County in the cup.

For the most part, they run losses underwritten by soft loans, other forms of debt, or regular investment from benefactors.

Dundee lost over £800k in 2021-22 and posted substantial six-figure losses last season too.

Dundee United have consistently posted seven figure losses in recent seasons.

Raith Rovers saw heavy reliance on benefactors in recent seasons, and only made profits when on good cup runs. Their new investors say they have drastically improved their position. We shall have to wait and see if this is off the back of a decent league campaign or something more.

Morton lost six figure sums in both of the last two seasons despite big Old Firm Cup ties away from home.

Queen's Park are burning through the multi-million proceeds of selling the national stadium.

Ayr United have been underwritten by various benefactors in recent seasons.

Inverness lost over £800k last year and is relying on land redevelopment projects to remain viable.

Dunfermline has lost the best part of £1 million in the last two seasons.

Arbroath are a part-time football team.

Cove Rangers are a part-time team and got relegated.

Airdrieonians are half a million pounds in debt.

Hamilton had a massive cash legacy from a youth set-up and squandered it on Nigerian Princes. And got relegated.

All of these teams in the 2nd tier this year or last. Which of these teams do you suggest we emulate?

Managed to lose over £1M last season.

Looked as if Lawless was holding his arm on Friday, so thinking maybe took a knock on it.

Nothing too serious I hope, as we need him.

According to the manager it was an issue with his achilles that meant he got subbed on Friday.

I think you are right regarding selection. If no Lawless its either Mackenzie on the wing or we change formation. However 3-5-2 would only really work if McMillan is fully fit so limited ways forward.

Also agree regarding the result defining our season. Lose and we could be caught by Ayr never mind Morton. Win and the top 4 starts to look more of a given for both us and Morton.

From his interview on Jagzone the manager said Lawless was back training today. Sneddon and O'Reilly both had scans so we will know fairly soon the extent of their injuries. Apart from that seems everyone else is available.

Not sure how you get from my question "how does he compare to McCall?"

Using your tables above McCall was 10 points off 1st place when sacked. Doolan is currently 10 points off 1st place.

I liked McCall but totally understood the need for change because we could see his inflexible approach to tactics, poor use of subs and we knew that he wouldn't be able to get us promotion. I would also add that he was very loyal to his coaching team and perhaps that cost him his job.

Doolan came in and did a better job of managing McCall's team than McCall last season as he was tactically more flexible. However this season Doolan is showing signs he's struggling. His tactics are almost as inflexible as McCall, his subs often make things worse and recruitment is poor (although perhaps there are some mitigating circumstances on that front)

So my question still stands -  "It could well be the best chance of promotion for the next few years. Are we sure we have the right coaching team to make the most of that opportunity?"

We don't necessarily need to remove Doolan but that shouldn't be off the table. Its entirely possible that there needs to be another voice added to the coaching staff or that McDonald or Arthur aren't what we need. Just because Doolan is a playing legend shouldn't make him or his team immune from scrutiny.

Also what do we determine as success and a minimum level of performance this season for the management team? We always knew automatic promotion was off the table. I think a reasonable expectation was 3rd. If we fail to make the playoffs is that below acceptable?

When Graham's contract extension was announced in December it made mention of a player coach role so that might change the dynamic.

The former Chairnman stated that getting in to the play offs was the target this season so assuming the board have not changed their thinking on that 4th (or better) would be meeting the target set.

Just a quick update to say thank you to all the beneficiaries who got in touch about the draft Club-Trust Agreement during the consultation phase. We had a Trustees meeting yesterday evening to discuss the feedback and have reverted to the Club. Our aspiration remains for this to be signed and put into force later this month, but we'll keep you posted.

As today was the day it was hoped to have this in place by I assume there is a delay - any update as to why or timescale?

"We hope to have the final text of the agreement in place and legally effective no later than Saturday 24th February 2024."

We will see how the scores go today. It wasn't all that long ago we looked a stick on for 3rd, if we don't sort out our defending we could struggle for top 4. Morton are the form team, we were the last to beat them when we won 2-1 at Firhill. Unlike us they seem to have had the refs decision's go for them, seems Dundee Utd should have got a penalty when Morton beat them 3-2 and we should have also got a last minute penalty against them at Cappielow that ended 1-1. They say these things even them themselves out over a season, we will see.

Agree with @lady-isobel-barnett our game management is very poor, if it was better we would be a premier league team this season and also in the next round of the Scottish cup are 2 examples that come to mind.

With 3 games left of this quarter then the final quarter teams are going to take points off one another, eg Airdrie playing Morton today. I reckon, unless we really do slump, we will be 3rd or 4th.
