  1. Just as an employee has a responsibility to his employer so the reverse is also true. Thankfully we have at the helm a manager who appreciates this. With reference to one of Stevie's previous indiscretions with gambling, Alan Archiebald commented, “We will give Steven all the help he needs if he has a problem. We will back him to the hilt.People should be helping the players not just giving them a ban. The rules are don’t bet – but if the rules are don’t drink and you are an alcoholic, then you are still going to drink aren’t you? It looks like Stevie has put a lot of bets on but we’ll sit down with him and deal with it internally. We want to help him.” My understanding is the S.F.A. sanction for breaching gambling rules imposed on Stevie was a 6 game ban. Having served 2 the other 4 are suspended as long as he avoids further breach of the regulations. This he appears to have complied with. In relation to Twitter, I'm aware of fans having contention with some of his posts on various occassions, however, the scandal that made the papers was a story about a guy who had his phone knicked. An explanation the club seem to have accepted, mobile theft is quite common after all, and a full and frank apology was made by the player. I confess to being no Twitter expert. Perhaps someone can give me a full explanation of the padlock icon on his most recent tweets? Does this deny viewing of his account to non-tweeters, non-followers or selected friends? Regardless, it does appear he may have taken some steps to control the reach of his tweets and perhaps like me does not fully appreciate who can access his account. Everyone should be entitled to a defence when accused. In making a defence, one does not necessarily condone the actions of the accused. This guy might only sign one year contracts with the Jags, he, like many 25 year old professional footballers might have some boisterous or laddish characteristics and temptations that he yields to more frequently than is wise He may hold dear another club we don't and any political or religious persuasion by definition does not align with an establishment promoting a non aligned stance.... However he's also the guy who has been with us for nearly 4 years, made over 100 appearances, scored 14 goals in our championship year, continues to score some crucial and some spectacular goals, apparently attracts interest from other clubs and in fact does meet many of his off-field duties like a professional and has represented the club well in the community on several occasions when asked... Jackie And Sid were in charge of the team when Stevie first signed. I recall an interview with a local paper where he said his admiration for both of those former celtic stars' careers and what they had to say about their ambitions for the club were a big influence in him taking what could be seen as a step down from Motherwell to the at the time lower league Jags (although pretty much all his first team starts were at The Wee Rovers). Sookin up and saying the right things in a professional manner, or maybe even a suggestion he's not quite the bile driven bigot he's being made out to be here? Anyway, despite the two guys who he at first signed for leaving he has perhaps shown at least some appreciation for our club and it's stature fighting for his place under a different gaffer. Aye... so he grumbled when he was not in the team, and he doesn't even have the decency to be a closet H*n.... Some folks are offended by his tweets... and we all know what that can lead to in this town... but no-one has actually suffered physical harm or loss from these tweets... or has someone else got a wee gambling issue and had a line on when he might post some shitey banter.... Odds must've been pretty short it'd be the weekend of a "long awaited" old firm tie..... I don't condone his actions at all. But the enthusiasm to condemn the guy on display here leaves the question is this wee daftie maybe just working for the wrong set of bigots?
  2. any chance of you explaining your problem with my post?
  3. One team One love. Get your priorities right and leave the baggage at the turnstile. In the spirit of Shankly ~ Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.
  4. 25 year old Scottish professional footballer from Glasgow tweets sh1t3y old firm banter SHOCKER!!!! He's been a good player for us. Not the best, but no-one can argue he has not contributed much to our achievement of a place in the top flight of Scottish football, and at 25 still has potential for improvement. So, for now, he ain't the first, he won't be the last... but he's oor 'orrible 'un. I hope he continues with his Jaggy Re-Hab' and that he might, given time, and with the support and love of his Jags fan counsellors work out for himself a path to footballing righteousness. C'mon Stevie, ya bum fluff beardy wee bam. Screw the nut, drop the i'phone and concentrate on the main event, ya plum. WE ARE THE JAGS!!! #O.T.I.G. # GEEZASHIFT #weanzgonnatweetp1sh #ThistleGlory>OldFirmStory #boringsundays
  5. Fair play to you AJ..... And anyway, I liked this one the best.
  6. Hells bells! This shook me all night long. Rock 'n' roll aint noise pollution. Are you Spoilin for a fight? Hold me back! There's no Beating around the bush here, It's a long way to the top and if y'want the boys to Shoot to thrill Flick the switch and Let there be rock! Give it up pal and have a Drink on me. . . . . . Biffy Clyro ...? ... meh
  7. Fairy nuff, lodge a complaint with the numpties. But if you really wanna make a stink about this stink, you probably need to spread the word. Forward your e-mail to all the papers, STV, Sky, independent radio stations (local and national). Someone might pick it up, there is motivation for a competitor to point out the oppositions mistakes, right? If you got the time post the clip again on YouTube pointing out the errors. ... Usual form from the BBC seems to be, "Thanks, Now sshhhh!". And why shouldn't it be? I imagine, this kind of error could be quite embarrassing for well paid reporters. I watched with the sound down, so... no comment on the details.
  8. I get the frustration with the lack of media coverage. However, maybe we could do more to make ourselves noticeable in "the mainstream". Bombard the likes of "off-the-ball", "super scoreboard" and Talksport with e-mails, texts and calls. Forgive them, for they know not what they are missing. .... There's a quiet revolution happening, we are on the front line along with the likes of the glamorous cup winners like County, ICT, St.Johnstone... , the reporters think the establishment have it all under control, and are only reporting on the major battles. "Great Glasgow Alternative"...? "North Glasgow's Underground Resistance!!!"
  9. We're Partick Thistle ... We sign who we want!
  10. It ain't just the clubs place to attract support. We all have the opportunity to talk the team, the club and the "match-day experience" up, and promote the Jags to everyone we encounter. Although disappointed with the turnout last night I am still taken with the diversity of our support. Young and old, male and female, Norman-nae-mates, families and groups of "Thistle-pals". Sitting in the middle of the JHS and enjoying the noise from the magnificent Northy the crowd "felt" bigger and maybe I romanticise a little but there was a strong feeling of togetherness. There was the usual few grumpy critics but that was cancelled out a little by JHS clapping along and even joining in with the Northy soundtrack, even starting their own at times. The team provided the result to make everyone feel, I'm sure, that last night they shared in a experience you don't get going to the movies, playing on a console or even going to a gig. We achieved something last night. We were all part of it. All contributed a little. Even for the most sceptical Jags fan, who maybe compares the 22quid to volume of beer, the casual fan or down-trodden overdosed regular, the there must have been a sense of "yeah, it's worth it". The club can and probably will do more, but they have already done plenty. Kids go free, the Northy, some great sponsors, and a very competitive team!!! Firhill is again a great and exciting place to go. Be proud and spread the word!
  11. A top priority for getting signed up. Proven competence and competition for RB and CB, and I think he'd excel as a defensive midfielder. At 28 he is the type of "utility" player with experience, professionalism, confidence and ability that is vital for club like ours unable to carry a huge squad, rely sometimes on "second chance" signings and looking to bring through some youth. Fingers crossed we can cut him an acceptable deal. I'd sleep a little easier known he was committed for another season of changing the landscape of Scottish Football!
  12. Man of the match.... The North Stand.... Strong for the full 90 against an impressive opposition.
  13. Aye... I remember.... and like I said .... Whadaeayeknow? .... Just think in the cup tie we were over cautious, they had just added to their squad, pumped killie 5-1 the previous week with their own new formation and it looked like Mixu might be turning things around for them. We played 5 at the back, and in fairness to Archie, given our lack of goals this season, in a cup tie I could understand maybe trying to hold out and grind out a 1-0. In the end (although in all fairness they were probably more up for it) they did that to us and scored a bit of a peach in the last few minutes. Opperchancity missed ....Forgedabourit. Tonight though, we have a decent points cushion over them. It'll be a real disappointment if we get beat, but no disaster for us. They however need to win.... I say we should go for it. To my mind, we don't really have an out and out left winger. Lawless didn't look interested on saturday, and Christie'll give you a great shift, but for me, with the personnel we have in our squad the three behind 1 centre forward is always gonna have one guy not playing in his prefered or best position. Sometimes the middle guy looks reluctant to push forward with two guys wide too, although Edwards made a good fist of it against killie. I just think the back 4 and 2 defensive midfielders provide sufficent ballance and cover for the attacking 4 to have a bit more freedom and with guys like Lawless or Edwards and Doolan, the energy is there for them to cover alot of ground.... .... can y'tell i'm up for THE BIG MATCH But yer right... GERRINTAERUM!!! not in a physical way though... I mean more in about them ... lots of movement .... they'll be pushing forward for a win so they probably leave space and we should be making them nervous with a bit of industry off the ball as much as when we're on it. I've talked myself into believing we can hump this mob....
  14. I don't make every game and I'm breaking the bank to PATG tonight, and been on to a couple of pals to make the effort. ... Second half saturday we lost our way, but first half we looked good. Tonight, we play a team who must win. DU's need for points and our shout for top 6 lends the ol' cup tie effect. I maybe disappointed but tonight shapes up as cracking encounter.
  15. If I were King.... Cerny Dumbaya...Seabourne...Frans...Booth Osman...Welsh Amoo......................Lawless Pogba.....Doolan Scully Miller Fraser Nesbitt Edwards Elliot German If Osman doesn't make it, I'd be comfortable with Fraser in his place, or possibly try Miller in the role. Edwards made a strong case for himself starting on Saturday full of energy, lots of movement, but I think Wee Stevie just trumps him for skill and creatitivity. If things were going well, I'd like to see German come on at a fairly early stage too... just out of curiosity really... But... whadayahno-eh? IN ARCHIE I TRUST..... Mony Paaheek Feeeeessoooo!!!!!!
  16. Statistically, we are strong defensively. We have the meanest goals against figure in the league outside the top 3. I don't get to every game, but we owe that in large part to Cerny who has been tremendous and I think an improvement on Fox. We have at times looked fragile at the back, injuries and suspensions can't have helped. When I've seen him Thomas has looked consistently solid, however, he should perhaps be a little quicker with his distribution. This, was clearly evident on saturday when we saw Amoo breaking at pace after a corner or sustained pressure in our box an Tam held the ball till his area was clear. I was watching this again at the weekend - and it kinda confirmed my belief that while ATS and O'donnell were great assets and contributed much to our attacking capabilities, I always thought their final ball into the box left alot to be desired and their loss to the team was perhaps overrated by some. Their partnership lasted only until the new year of that first season up, during which time we only scored about 15 goals and won only three games. I'm not at all saying "those two were crap". They were not, but they flourished in the championship year and only had half a season in the top flight where we have remained despite their partnership ending. From the clip I think I counted about 5 assists or crosses from outside the box from either flank that led directly to a strike on goal, and some of them, probably the best of them, were delivered by Higgy. In short, I think is has been unfair to promote Pogba as a big target man who should be good in the air and hold the ball up regardless of the quality of service to him and supporting attacking mid-field. I think we do need width in our play but I think perhaps we put too much emphasis on it. ATS, O'donnel and McMillan were good players who had a certain style and attacking attitude. Higgy provided a bit of class at times. However, I think Booth, Miller and Dumbaya are adequate replacements. I watched Miller bust a gut running all of 60-70 yards to support Amoo ( who improves, and looks more confident with just about every game I see, in contrast to Higgy who last year seemed at times to be on the downward slope of that mountain) down the right more than once and I think he sometimes doesn't get the praise he deserves for trying to push forward. I'd say that with the points cushion we have over DU, tomorrow night we should go for it. They will be out and out going for a win. They will leave gaps at the back. We should exploit that with two up front. Dools and Pogba with Mathias holding a more central role and Dools ghosting about trying to be invisible and generally making a nuisence of himself. An attacking midfielder ( Edwards, Lawless or Nesbitt) given a free role ( drifting between the centre and the left wing) and Amoo wide right. With two defensive midfielders (Welsh, Osman, Fraser) I think our defence has proved it's capable of holding out. It's be good to see Dumbaya back, but like i said I think Miller is more than adequate and I'd be willing to trust the left flank to Booth alone, he still looks super fit to me, and capable. But hey.... In Archie I still trust..... ETA .... a 4-2-2-2 formation of sorts...
  17. I said "Remember '96". There were 2 play-off games. In the first we were leading 1-nil until the 86th minute and in the second tie it was 1-nil Thistle till the 90th. We had chances to finish them and didn't take them. If we win tomorrow night we could avoid a potential "second leg". As it stands we're well ahead on points and in with a very real chance of making the top six, however, should we lose to the Arabs they'd reduce the gap between us to 11 points with 18 to play for. This is Scottish football, a premier league of 12 where 2 are potentially relegated. This is more about survival than revenge. This is a dog-eat-dog survival of the fittest league like no other. 6 games to go and still half the league potentially at threat of relegation? The fact we could take a huge stride towards another guaranteed season of the best footballing competition Scotland has to offer by beating a team that denied us that in the past and in turn fix another brass handle onto their relegation coffin....... well ..... it's hard to deny there is some coincidental opportunity for a kind of poetic justice in the eyes of anyone who's been following the jags since the 90s.... surely? I'm a bigot. Through my red and yellow hazed eyes PARTICK THISTLE > dungdee u-sh1ted in many, many ways, and the merest prospect of us playing at a lower level to them is a travesty. It's a non negotiable position and not open for debate. C'MON THISTLE!!!C'MON THISTLE!!! C'MON THISTLE!!!C'MON THISTLE!!! The united fans will very probably fill the main stand... We need our support out.... this is the biggest game of the season so far.... no doubt. Time to show Archie and the boys we appreciate the effort of the last 3 years and we want more and are ready to support them achieve it. Get your scarves, flags and badges out for the Jags and get to Firhill on Tuesday night. If they get beat it will be a disappointment if they win it would be a real shame more weren't there to show support and appreciation. Top six would be phenomenal. A watershed moment. It's out of our hand but still very much possible.
