  1. All the best to Robert, my ex French and Latin teacher!

Here's a wee story (again): Back in season 70-71 we had a late afternoon kick-off match at Stranraer (they had no floodlights), and to get there it meant I had to dog school and miss my French lesson. I went on the NW bus, if I remember correctly. Outside Stair Park, as I was waiting in the queue at the turnstyle I heard "Hello, Anderson..." and turned to see Mr Reid looking at me, as he walked with a companion towards the stand, for which he surely had a complimentary ticket. Like me, he was dogging school that afternoon! We exchanged a kind of ""We'll say no more about this" glance.

We met at many matches, home and away, over the years. Two other Jags diehard teachers from the same school were Hector McLeod and Ian Woodburn.

With Bannigan and Graham away some folk on here will need to find a new scapegoat!
Clearly Wilson wanted Bannigan to stay but Ayr put a higher value on him and maybe have a bigger budget too.

Scapegoat prediction: Lawless. Let's face it, did absolutely nothing in games where he came on towards the end of last season.

Sorry to see him go.  A good player who did the less glamorous work very well by breaking up play and covering our defence.  One of the good guys.

If Ayr offered him more £ and a 2 year contract at the age of 32 he needs to take it.  He's still paying a mortgage and getting married.  These players are not on much.

He's been doing sfa for us to win matches for a good few years. Christ, even I could make 2-yard passes to somebody, or even easier, backwards, before I get tackled. I could easily get yellow and red cards and cop out of the match. To win matches we need to attack, and SB has done virtually zilch in that department for several seasons. And if his holding or stopper midfield role is his forte, then it hasn't helped us much, as we're still in the 2nd tier.

Thanks for your efforts, SB. Sorry that Aberdeen rumour came to nothing all those years ago, but good luck at Ayr!

With a name like Reading, he should be good at playing between the lines.

Just thinking of Reading, hope he is Niall Keown Season 1, not Niall Keown Season 2 or 3.

No doubt he'll get booked before long.

  5. Quick contribution: I hope BBG does well at Falkirk; he's a Jags legend without doubt.; would be happy to see him return some day.

I'm hoping for at least 4 or 5 new signings: keeper, full back ( l or r), two midfielders (a stopper and a driver),

a couple of sharp, mobile forwards..... we need more options than what we had last season, as the results showed.

But I don't know who fits the bill.....🙁

  6. Seriously, all the best to BBG, who's been tremendous for us, a real big influence, but in the end was largely involved in stifling our style of play, as when we were near the opposition everything had to be aimed at him. I have a feeling that we might see him back at Firhill in a later stage of his career, when he's no longer playing.

Now, we don't need another 30 plus some striker. Get in another young guy to play alongside Diack, and give them both a decent run in the team to start scoring. Get an attacking midfielder who can burst forward and shoot.

Programme collector Miles McClagan has very generously been scanning his vast collection and uploading it to flickr for everyone to view. 40 Partick Thistle matches are covered from 1971 to 2006. On our brand new list page, you can get a flick through any of the fully scanned programmes by clicking on any of the image links which will open up a new window on the flickr site. Enjoy!

  8. Rumours about us being interested in players who've signed for other clubs are not evidence of anything. Players are looking for the best deals they can get, and so players going to the likes of Falkirk, Livi, Ross, can earn considerably more than we can offer them. So yes, we could already have signed a few players... but they'd be ones that better-off teams had no interest in, and that would probably be for good reasons, and people would be on here complaining about the underwhelming players we've signed, blah blah.

I think that for us this season it's a combination of "wait and see" (who's available and within our means) and "hit or miss" (could turn out excellent, mediocre, or worse). That's where we're at. I don't see how it could have been done much differently.

  9. My memory is a bit hazy, but I seem to remember that Hinchy hadn't played for some time (though I thought he was OK in previous matches) but then had to play against Dunfermline at EE Park, and looked like he'd never played football in his life. Absolute howler, slow and all over the place, gifting them at least one goal. I think that might have been the last game he ever played for us.
