Firhillista
Our previous worst opening to the league was in 1984 when we lost 4-0 away to Forfar in the opening game. A look at the team lines will send a shiver of horror down the spine of anyone old enough to remember that squad - Brough, Wilson, Walker, Shields, Doyle, Hutchison, Murray, Gilmour, McDowell, Cochrane, Herd, O'Hara. Not many of that lot would even get a game ahead of the current bunch. Rooney was the manager and we finished 11th out of 14. Before that, you have to go back to 1966 when we got hammered 6-1 in the opening game, but it was away to Rangers and we had Andy Roxburgh at centre-forward. (Finished 12th out of 18 that year.) So what does history tell us? We'll finish 7th or thereabouts.... God, it's going to be a long season...
gianlucatoni
och well it'll be a season like most others then ... it would be nice to do better but I'll take 7th (based on your thorough research) and financial security anyday. The Incredible Adam Spark
financial security anyday. Is that on the horizon?
carefulpuntgeorge
...and surely one of our best season openers (although it was a cup game) was our 7-0 defeat of Berwick Rangers (sure it was them) and look how well that season went under Murder McLeod! With Thistle, you can never guess what's going to happen next. That's why we love them!

If I remember rightly a large number of these players were making their debuts in Rooneys first game. Different circumstances completely. This lot were p**h last year and are the same this

Craig-W
The best test for us will surely be the Dundee game? Last year early doors we played them off the park (as admitted by the Dee fans after the game) and were still gubbed two-nil. Let's see how much they've improved and far we've deteriorated... I remember that season we started off quite well - things are looking good - then matched up against Falkirk at Firhill - and were promptly taught a lesson 1-4. They went on to win the league, while we... er well, nevermind.
